Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the levels of self-esteem and resilience and to investigate factors affecting on the resilience among nursing students. Methods: The subjects for this study were 175 nursing students and the data were collected from November 15 to December 20, 2016. The data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression. Results: Subjects' mean scores of self-esteem and resilience were 3.60 and 3.78, respectively, on a 5-point scale. There were significant differences in the level of resilience among grade (F=3.30, p<.001). The post-hoc test showed that the resilience level of the fourth-grade subjects was significantly higher than that of the third-grade. There were no significant differences in the level of resilience according to gender, religion, residence type, and economic level. Self-esteem was positively correlated with resilience (r=.80, p<.001) and economic level (r=.20, p=.007). The results of the multiple regression analysis showed that self-esteem was a significant predictor for resilience (β=.81, p<.001) which explained 64.7% of the total variance. Conclusion: Self-esteem was an significant factor for nursing students' resilience. Therefore, intervention strategies should be developed for nursing students to improve their self-esteem.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the resilience of adult children of alcoholics (ACOA) who are college students, and examine factors contributing to their resilience. Methods: A total of 459 college students from a university in Incheon, participated in this study. Data were collected between April 6 to 30, 2010 using the Korean version of the Children of Alcoholics Screening Test (CAST-K), CAGE, Social Support, Self-Esteem, Family Adaptability and Cohesion, and Resilience measurements. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: Overall, ACOA group showed lower scores of resilience, social support, self-esteem and family adaptability and cohesion compared to non-ACOA group. Resilience among the ACOA group showed significant relationships with self-esteem (r=.53, p<.001), social support (r=.43, p<.001), and family adaptability and cohesion (r=.25, p<.013). Multiple regression analysis showed that 45% of the variance for resilience in the ACOA group was accounted for by age, gender, social support, self-esteem, and religion. Conclusion: The results of the study show that self-esteem and social support are important determinants of resilience in ACOA, thus it is recommend that further resilience training programs for ACOA be developed to enhance their social support and self-esteem, and ultimately to increase their resilience.
The study examined whether children's behavioral problem and self-resilience mediated the association between mothers' democratic parenting and their children's school life adjustment perceived by children. We analyzed data from the fourth Korean Children and Youth Panel Study (KCYPS) that included democratic parenting, behavioral problem, self-resilience, and school life adjustment by 1,971 mothers and fourth grade elementary school children. We identified structural relationships among the variables using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 applying structural equation modeling. The measurement model and structure model had a favorable goodness of fit and the results of structure models on each path were as follows. First, school life adjustment had positive correlations with mother's democratic parenting and self-resilience, but there was a negative correlation between school life adjustment and behavioral problems. Second, the relationship between mother's democratic parenting and self-resilience was mediated by behavioral problems and behavioral problems; in addition, self-resilience mediated the relationship between mother's democratic parenting and school life adjustment. The results of this study suggested that children's school life adjustment and children's confidence to control behavioral problems could improve by promoting self-resilience. If fourth grade children could perceive mother's parenting as affection, monitoring children's behavioral problems could be reduced, and children's self-resilience and school life adjustment could be increased.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of self-resilience and self-efficiency on the satisfaction with major in dental hygiene students. Methods : The data were analyzed by the frequency analysis, one-way ANOVA, Duncan post-hoc analysis, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis using SPSS 18.0. It is necessary to develop the program that can help increase the self-resilience and self-efficiency, and apply such program to the curricula.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between resilience, burnout, and self-efficacy of Public Social Workers and to draw implications for effective management of Public Social Workers. In order to accomplish this study purpose, the resilience of Public Social Workers as an independent variable, burnout as a dependent variable of occupational identity, and self-efficacy as a moderating variable were selected. The causal relationship between resilience and burnout and the moderating effect of self-efficacy were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the resilience of Public Social Workers showed a significant effect on burnout, and the effect of resilience on burnout varied according to self-efficacy, so there was a moderating effect of self-efficacy. Based on the results of this analysis, the theoretical implications and policy implications of this study are suggested.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting school resilience among middle school students. Methods: The 388 survey samples were divided into high level group, middle level group and low level group in terms of the self-rated academic grades. Data were analyzed with $x^2$, ANOVA and regression analysis. Results: First, self-rated health, self-competence and school resilience were significantly different by academic grades. Second, the high and middle level group of self-rated academic grade showed the effect of self-competence(sport competence, self-worth) on school resilience. Conclusions: It was suggested to develop physical, mental and social health programs and policies were required for improvement of self-competence and the school resilience.
Purpose. The purpose of this study is to investigate how professional self-concept and ego-resilience of nursing students affect their clinical competence. Methods. This study conducted a structured-questionnaire survey with 143 nursing students to look into their professional self-concept, ego-resilience and clinical competence. Results. According to the study result, professional self-concept scored 2.85 on average out of 4 points, ego-resilience 3.61 on average, and clinical competence 3.48 on average. It was found that clinical competence had significantly positive correlations with professional self-concept (r=.58, p<.01) and ego-resilience (r=.44, p<.01). According to regression analysis, the factors affecting clinical competence were professional self-concept, ego-resilience, and academic grades in order, and explanatory power was 39.5%. Conclusions. Given the above results, in order to improve clinical competence of nursing students, nursing educational institutes need to find an educational plan which can contribute to increasing professional self-concept, ego-resilience, and academic grades.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of resilience on academic stress in dental hygiene students focused on the mediating effects of self-esteem. The optimistic attitude in ego-resilience (${\beta}$=.56, p<.001), an associate's degree (${\beta}$=.38, p<.001), suitable to aptitude (${\beta}$=.17, p<.001), social self-efficacy (${\beta}$=.14, p=.039) and high employment rate (${\beta}$=.12, p=.033) were significant predictors of satisfaction in major. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop an effective intervention program to improve nursing student's ego-resilience, self-efficacy and satisfaction in major of nursing student.
This study examined the structural relationships among the child's playfulness, self-regulation, and ego-resilience. Through an examination of these relationship, this research aimed to analyze the direct and indirect influences of the child's playfulness on self-regulation and ego-resilience. The participants of this study consisted of 359 children attending kindergartens in the Seoul and Gyeonggi-do area. The sample was analyzed using the SPSS 21.0, AMOS 21.0, and Maximum Likelihood method (ML). The significance of the indirect effects was tested by means of bootstrapping. The results of this study were as follows: (i) the child's playfulness had a direct influence on relational ego-resilience; (ii) the child's playfulness directly affected self-regulation; (iii) the child's self-regulation directly affected relational and aptitudinal ego-resilience; and (iv) the child's playfulness was indirectly influential to relational resilience and resilient competency through self-regulation. The discussion also took into account the specific methods which can be used to enhance the child's playfulness and self-regulation.
