  • This study aims to explore the structural relationships among experiences of being heard in home and school settings, self-esteem, and human rights awareness. Among the 2017 NYPI Cross-sectional Survey on the Rights of Youth & Children, 6,405 middle and high school students (47.8% females) were used to conduct a structural equation modeling using Mplus. It was found that children who experience being heard in the home or school display higher levels of self-esteem and awareness of human rights. It was also found that self-esteem is more likely to increase awareness of human rights. Self-esteem was also found to mediate the pathway between the experience of being heard at home or school and human rights awareness. In addition, there was no significant difference in path coefficients depending on whether they received human rights education. Practical implications for promoting home and school environments where children's opinions can be heard were discussed.

  • It is critical for adolescents to foster self-efficacy, creativity, and adventurous spirit as well as plans for appropriate career path in order to become good members of society. During this adolescent period, newspapers will be a good learning material as they deliver various and timely information in refined language. In this paper, we analyzed the impact of NIE on development of self-efficacy, awareness of career path, and entrepreneurship through comparing adolescents who regularly read newspapers with those who do not. We came up with the following result after analysis of surveys (with a sample size of 283) that targeted middle school and higher grade elementary school students across Korea. We confirmed that reading newspapers has a positive impact on development of self-efficacy, awareness of career path, and entrepreneurship. More specifically, reading newspapers regularly has a positive impact on development of self-efficacy that subsequently has a positive impact on development of awareness of career path and entrepreneurship. Therefore, we found that simply reading newspapers regularly has a positive impact on development of self-efficacy, awareness of career path, and entrepreneurship with no special programs utilizing the newspapers. This is because various information and opinions in newspapers help adolescents to develop their own views, improve understanding and awareness of career, and development of sociality including creativity and adventurous spirit. There is the meaning as the first research that this research checks what the NIE of the adolescents affects the positive impact to not only the self-efficacy and career awareness but also entrepreneurship.

  • This study aimed to examine the hypothesis that intrapersonal, interpersonal, and environmental self-awareness would alleviate the association between sSchadenfreude and cyberbullying. 300 middle and high school students answered survey questionnaires including sSchadenfreude, cyberbullying behavior, (intrapersonal. interpersonal, and environmental) self-awareness, depression, and anxiety. After controlling depression and anxiety, theThe results reveal that first, Schadenfreude predicts cyberbullying behavior, so those who have a high level of Schadenfreude commit more online cyberbullying behavior. Second, intrapersonal and interpersonal self-awareness moderated the association between schadenfreude and cyberbullying, and those who were above average on intrapersonal and interpersonal self-awareness were more liable to commit cyberbullying, but those below average did not show a significant moderation effect. Third, whereas environmental self-awareness did not show a significant moderation effect. Specifically, those who know well what they think and do and what they look like in interpersonal relationships perpetrate more cyberbullying when their schadenfreude was high. However, knowing well about what was happening around them was not related to the likelihood of schadenfreude that lead to cyberbullying. The results of this study revealed that Schadenfreude, which deals with emotions on expecting the misfortune of others and the possibility of having antisocial characteristics, lead to actual cyberbullying behaviors of adolescents. Also, this study identified that intrapersonal and interpersonal self-awareness are harmful in causing cyberbullying in those with high Schadenfreude. Finally, the implication and the limitation of this study were discussed.

After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows: Regarding oral health awareness by general characteristics, the students who had experience of receiving oral health education were better in that regard(p<0.05). As to awareness of oral health education, the health-related majors took the best view of it (p<0.05). Concerning the links between self-esteem and oral health awareness, there was a significant positive correlation between the two. As a result of analyzing what factors affected oral health awareness, oral health awareness was under the significant influence of self-esteem, self-rated oral health status and oral health education(p<0.05). Given the findings of the study, oral health education programs geared toward college students should be developed in consideration of the various influential factors for oral health awareness to offer better education.

Methods: A self-reported survey was conducted with dental hygiene students in the metropolitan area. Of those surveys distributed, 243 questionnaires were analyzed. Results: The results of this study are as follows: 1. Regarding self-efficacy, the subjects had a mean result of 2.96(out of five points), and 3.09 points in satisfaction with clinical practice. 2. As for the subfactors of self-efficacy, the students who got higher grades, whose awareness of dental hygienists was better and whose awareness of dental hygienists after on-site clinical practice was better scored higher in terms of confidence and self-regulation. In task difficulty preference, the students who were more satisfied with majoring in dental hygiene and whose awareness of dental hygienists was better scored higher. In terms of motivation for choosing the dental hygiene department, the students scored higher when the department was their preferred option. 3. In satisfaction with clinical practice, the students who were aware of dental hygienists at the time of college entrance was better. Those whose awareness of dental hygienists after experiencing clinical practice was better and who were more satisfied with majoring in dental hygiene expressed more satisfaction with clinical practice. 4. Satisfaction with clinical practice was higher when self-efficacy was better. Conclusions: Based on the above results, it is thought that developing programs that can enhance self-efficacy and include on-site clinical practice would be beneficial as higher self-efficacy levels were related to higher clinical practice satisfaction.

  • Objectives: This study examines the awareness of hypertension and its age-specific characteristics among Korean adults. Methods: Data were derived from the fourth Korean National Health Examination and Nutrition Survey (KNHANES IV, 2007-2009) of 14,637 subjects aged 30 and older. Self-reported prevalence of hypertension (HTN) was compared with measured arterial systolic/diastolic blood pressure, employing Kappa index, sensitivity, and specificity. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to determine factors in hypertension awareness by age groups. Results: Kappa agreement between self-reported and measured data in hypertension was high (0.70, 95% CI 0.68-0.71). Awareness by sensitivity was relatively high (65.3%) and specificity was very high (98.8%) for all ages. After age stratification, the results revealed the very lowest level of hypertension awareness among the youngest age group: 29.1% of adults aged 30-49 years, 57.5% of adults aged 45-59 years, and 76.9% of those aged ${\geq}60years$. Predictors for awareness differed by age group. Among adults aged 30-49 years, men exhibited lower awareness to HTN than women. Among middle-aged adults, workers showed lower awareness than non-workers. Among those aged ${\geq}60years$, men and the less educated showed lower awareness to HTN than their counterparts. Conclusions: Age-specific prevention strategies are needed for hypertension management.
