$Li^{+}$ extraction reactions with ion-exchange type lithium manganese oxide in an aqueous phase were examined using chemical and x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. In the process of extraction reaction, the lithium manganese oxide showed a topotactic extraction of $Li^{+ }$ in the aqueous phase mainly through an ion-exchange mechanism, and the $Li^{+}$ extracted samples indicated a high selectivity and a large capacity for $Li^{+}$ . The electronic structures and chemical bonding properties were also studied using a discrete variational (DV)-X$\alpha$ molecular orbital method with cluster model of (Li$Mn_{12}$$O_{40}$ )$^{27-}$ for tetrahedral sites and ($Li_{7}$ Mn $O_{38}$ )$^{3}$ for octahedral site in $Li_{1.33}$$Mn_{1.67}$ / $O_{4}$ respectively. Li in the manganese oxides is highly ionized in both sites, but the net charge of Li was greater for tetrahedral sites than octahedral. These calculations suggest that the tetrahedral sites have higher $Li^{+}$$H^{+}$ exchangeability than the octahedral sites, and are preferable for the selective adsorption for L $i^{+}$ ions.s.

The similarity in internal flow of solid and hybrid rocket suggests that hybrid rocket combustion can be susceptible to instability due to vortex sheddings and their interaction. This study focuses on the evolution of interaction of vortex generated in pre-chamber with other types of vortex in the combustor and the change of combustion characteristics. Baseline and other results tested with disks show that there are five different frequency bands appeared in spectral domain. These include a frequency with thermal lag of solid fuel, vortex shedding due to obstacles such as forward, backward facing step and wall vortices near surface. The comparison of frequency behavior in the cases with disk 1 and 3 reveals that vortex shedding generated in pre-chamber can interact with other types of vortex shedding at a certain condition. The frequency of Helmholtz mode is one of candidates resulting to a resonance when it was excited by other types of oscillation even if this mode was not discernable in baseline test. This selective mechanism of resonance may explain the reason why non-linear combustion instability occurs in hybrid rocket combustion.
Several amino acid transport systems in mammary gland have been characterized during the last few years. These systems may be divided into two broad categories based on whether they are sodium-dependent or $Na^{+}$-independent, and each of these categories is subdivided into 3 groups depending on whether the systems prefer zwitterionic, cationic or anionic substrates. The zwitterion preferring transport processes in mammary gland are $Na^{+}$-dependent system A and $Na^{+}$-independent systems L and T. System $y^{+}$ is a $Na^{+}$-independent transporter of cationic amino acids and $X_{AG^{-}}$ is a $Na^{+}$-dependent system for anionic amino acids. A ($Na^{+}+Cl^{-}$)-dependent system, selective for $\beta$-amino acids has been reported in rat mammary tissue. In addition, there is yet another class of transporters that have still broader specificity. The $Na^{+}$-dependent systems $BCl^{-}$-dependent and $BCl^{-}$-independent and $Na^{+}$-independent system $y^{+}L$ have been reported to mediate the transport of zwitterionic as well as cationic amino acids. Each system has been characterized with respect to its substrate specificity, affinity, kinetics and ion-dependence. Transport of amino acids by mammary tissue is regulated by i) the intracellular substrate concentration, ii) lactogenic hormones and iii) milk stasis. Four of the above transport systems (i.e. A, L, $y^{+}$ and $BCl^{-}$-independent) are up-regulated by lactogenic hormones (insulin, cortisol and prolactin) in mammary gland.

Effects of CH₄/H₂ flow rate ratio, chuck bias and microwave power on the structural properties and particle densities of diamond thin films deposited on Ti substrates in microwave plasma CVD were examined. High quality diamond thin films were deposited on Ti substrates in 2∼3 CH₄ Vol.% conditions due to the preferential formation of sp³-bonus ana selective removal of sp²-bonus in the CH₄/H₂ mixtures, and the mechanism for the formation of diamond particles on Ti was analysed. Diamond particle density increased with increasing negative chuck bias to Ti substrate due to bias-enhanced nucleation of diamond and the threshold voltage was found at ∼-50 V. With increasing microwave power the evolution from micro-crystalline graphite layer to diamond layer was observed.

Various materials including conductive, dielectric, and semi-conductive materials, constitute suitable candidates for printed electronics. Metal nanoparticles (e.g. Ag, Cu, Ni, Au) are typically used in conductive ink. However, easily oxidized metals, such as Cu, must be processed at low temperatures and as such, photonic sintering has gained significant attention as a new low-temperature processing method. This method is based on the principle of selective heating of a strongly absorbent film, without light-source-induced damage to the transparent substrate. However, Cu nanoparticles used in inks are susceptible to the growth of a native copper-oxide layer on their surface. Copper-oxide-nanoparticle ink subjected to a reduction mechanism has therefore been introduced in an attempt to achieve long-term stability and reliability. In this work, a flash-light sintering process was used for the reduction of an inkjet-printed Cu(II)O thin film to a Cu film. Using a photographic lighting instrument, the intensity of the light (or intense pulse light) was controlled by the charged power (Ws). The resulting changes in the structure, as well as the optical and electrical properties of the light-irradiated Cu(II)O films, were investigated. A Cu thin film was obtained from Cu(II)O via photo-thermal reduction at 2500 Ws. More importantly, at one shot of 3000 Ws, a low sheet resistance value ($0.2527{\Omega}/sq.$) and a high resistivity (${\sim}5.05-6.32{\times}10^{-8}{\Omega}m$), which was ~3.0-3.8 times that of bulk Cu was achieved for the ~200-250-nm-thick film.
The present study was undertaken to examine the influence of glucocorticoids on the secretory responses of catecholamines (CA) evoked by acetylcholine (ACh), DMPP, McN-A-343, excess K^+$ and Bay-K-8644 from the isolated perfused rat adrenal gland and to clarify the mechanism of its action. The perfusion of the synthetic glucocorticoid dexamethasone (10-100\;{\mu}M$) into an adrenal vein for 20 min produced a dose-dependent inhibition in CA secretion evoked by ACh (5.32 mM), excess K^+$ (a membrane-depolarizor 56 mM), DMPP (a selective nicotinic receptor agonist, 100\;{\mu}M$ for 2 min), McN-A-343 (a muscarinic receptor agonist, 100\;{\mu}M$ for 4 min), Bay-K-8644 (a calcium channel activator, 10\;{\mu}M$ for 4 min) and cyclopiazonic acid (a releaser of intracellular $Ca^{2+}$, 10\;{\mu}M$ for 4 min). Similarly, the preperfusion of hydrocortisone (30\;{\mu}M$) for 20 min also attenuated significantly the secretory responses of CA evoked by nicotinic and muscarinic receptor stimulation as well as membrane-depolarization, $Ca^{2+}$ channel activation and the release of intracellular $Ca^{2+}$. Furthermore, even in the presence of betamethasone (30{\mu}M$), CA secretion evoked by ACh, excess K^+$, DMPP and McN-A-343 was also markedly inhibited. Taken together, the present results suggest that glucocorticoids cause the marked inhibition of CA secretion evoked by both cholinergic nicotinic and muscarinic receptor stimulation from the isolated perfused rat adrenal gland, indicating strongly that this inhibitory effect may be mediated by inhibiting influx of extracellular calcium as well as the release of intracellular calcium in the rat adrenomedullary chromaffin cells.

Phytophthora blight is a devastating disease of pepper and occurs almost anywhere peppers are grown. Phytophthora blight is caused by Phytophthora capsici and this pathogen can infect every part of the plant by moving inoculum in the soil, by infecting water on surface, by aerial dispersal to sporulating lesions. Management of Phytophthora blight currently relies on cultural practices, crop rotation, and use of selective fungicides. Since these treatments are a short-term management, a classical breeding for development of resistant pepper against the Phytophthora is an alternative. So far some of the resistant cultivars have been on the market, but those are limited regionally and commercially. Therefore, ultimately an elite line resistant against this disease should be developed, if possible, by biotechnology. We have set out a series of work recently in order to develop Phytophthora resistant pepper cultivar. For the first time, the cDNA microarray analysis was peformed using an EST chip that holds around 5000 pepper EST clones to identify genes responsive to Phytophthora infection. Total RNA samples were obtained from Capsicum annuum PI201234 after inoculating P. capsici to roots and soil and exposed to the chip. .Around 900 EST clones were up-regulated and down-regulated depending on the two RNA sample tissues, leaf and root. From those, we have found 55 transcription factors that may be involved in gene regulation of the disease defense mechanism. Further and in detail information will be provided in the poster.
Cilostazol has both antithrombotic and cerebral vasodilating effects, and one of the mechanism is the selective inhibition of platalet cyclic AMP phosphodiesterase. Bioequivalence of two cilostazol tablets, the $Pletaal^{TM}$ (Korea Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co.) and the LG $Cilostazol^{TM}$ (LG Chemical Co.), was evaluated according to the guidelines of Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA). Sixteen normal male volunteers ($20\sim29$ years old) were randomly divided into two groups and a randomized $2\times2$ cross-over study was employed. After oral administration of $Pletaal^{TM}$ or LG $Cilostazol^{TM}$ tablet (100 mg cilostazol), blood samples were taken at predetermined time intervals and the serum cilostazol concentrations were determined using an HPLC method with UV/VIS detector. The pharmacokinetic parameters $(AUC_t,\;C_{max}\;and\;T_{max})$ were calculated and ANOVA was utilized for the statistical analysis. The results showed that the differences in AUCt, C_{max} and Tmax between two tablets based on the $Pletaal^{TM}$ tablet were $-5.39\%,\;2.32\%\;and\;4.26\%$, respectively. The powers (1-${\beta}$) for $AUC_t,\;C_{max}\;and\;T_{max}\;were\;83.81\%,\;96.02\%\;and\;91.04%$, respectively. Minimum detectable differences ($\Delta$) and $90\%$ confidence intervals were all less than $\pm20\%$. All these parameters met the criteria of KFDA for bioequivalence, indicating that LG $Cilostazol^{TM}$ tablet is bioequivalent to $Pletaal^{TM}$ tablet.

The characteristics of the bubble adsorptive separation of CTAB(cetyltrimethylammonium bromide) and CuS precipitates was investigated. The Langmuir adsorption equation was adequate at very low concentration of CTAB, and the adsorption heat was determined from the batch analysis considering the bulk liquid accompanied between bubbles. The adsorption mechanism was explained with the collision adsorption between bubbles and precipitate particles. The optimum concentration ratio of (CTAB) to (CuS) for adsorptive separation was 0.1 and coincided with the ratio for the coagulation of particles. The collection efficiency was depended on pH and CTAB concentration but independent of the air flow rate, and the maximum efficiency was 0.0002. The selective separation of ZnS from the mixture of Cu-Cd-Zn sulfides was obtained by the bubble adsorption with CTAB.

In order to improve the portability of basic absorbents monoethanolamine (MEA) and glycine (Gly), both were supported on microporous activated carbon (AC). Chemical modification by alkali-metal ion exchange (of Li, Na, K) was carried out on Gly-based absorbents. All supported absorbents were subjected to $CO_2$ absorption capacity (pure $CO_2$) and selectivity (indoor level) tests. Textural and chemical characterizations were carried out on test sorbents. All impregnation brought about significant reduction of specific surface area and microporosity of the adsorbent Depreciation in the textural properties was found to result to reduction in pure $CO_2$ sorption. Contrarily, low-level $CO_2$ removal capacity was enhanced as the absorbent dosage increases, resulting in supported 5 molar MEA in methanol solution. Adsorption capacities were improved from 0.016 and 0.8 in raw ACs to 1.065 mmol/g for MEA's. Surface chemistry via X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) of the supported sorbents showed the presence of amine, pyrrole and quaternary-N. In reducing sequence of potency, pyridine, amine and pyrrolic-N were noticed to contribute significantly to $CO_2$ selective adsorption. Furthermore, the adsorption isotherm study confirms the presence of various SNGs heterogeneously distributed on AC. The adsorption mechanism of the present AC adsorbents favored Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm at lower and higher $CO_2$ concentrations respectively.
