In most cases, the routing policy of networks shows a preference for a static one-to-one mapping of communication pairs to routing paths, which offers adversaries a great advantage to conduct thorough reconnaissance and organize an effective attack in a stress-free manner. With the evolution of network intelligence, some flexible and adaptive routing policies have already proposed to intensify the network defender to turn the situation. Routing mutation is an effective strategy that can invalidate the unvarying nature of routing information that attackers have collected from exploiting the static configuration of the network. However, three constraints execute press on routing mutation deployment in practical: insufficient route mutation space, expensive control costs, and incompatibility. To enhance the availability of route mutation, we propose an OpenFlow-based route mutation technique called Polymorphic Path Transferring (PPT), which adopts a physical and virtual path segment mixed construction technique to enlarge the routing path space for elevating the security of communication. Based on the Markov Decision Process, with considering flows distribution in the network, the PPT adopts an evolution routing path scheduling algorithm with a segment path update strategy, which relieves the press on the overhead of control and incompatibility. Our analysis demonstrates that PPT can secure data delivery in the worst network environment while countering sophisticated attacks in an evasion-free manner (e.g., advanced persistent threat). Case study and experiment results show its effectiveness in proactively defending against targeted attacks and its advantage compared with previous route mutation methods.

Software-Defined Networking (SDN), which has emerged to overcome the limitations of existing network architectures, makes routing management simpler and more efficient through a central controller. SR (Segment Routing) is a flexible and scalable way of doing source routing, and defines the information path of the network through a list of segments arranged in the packet header. In an SDN environment, the performance of each router is almost the same, but packets tend to be concentrated on routes that are frequently used depending on routing algorithms. Routers in that path have a relatively high frequency of failure and are more likely to become bottlenecks. In this paper, we propose a routing algorithm that allows the router, which is a resource in the network, to evenly process packets in the SDN with SR, so that the administrator can utilize the resources in the network without idle routers, and at the same time facilitate the management of the router.

Segment routing (SR) is a highly implementable approach for traffic engineering (TE) with high flexibility, high scalability, and high stability, which can be established upon existing network infrastructure. Thus, when a network failure occurs, it can leverage the existing rerouting methods, such as rerouting based on Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP) and fast rerouting with loop-free alternates. To better exploit these features, we propose a high-performance and easy-to-deploy method SRUF (Segment Routing under Uncertain Failures). The method is inspired by the Value-at-Risk (VaR) theory in finance. Just as each investment risk is considered in financial investment, SRUF also considers each traffic distribution scheme's risk when forwarding traffic to achieve optimal traffic distribution. Specifically, SRUF takes into account that every link may fail and therefore has inherent robustness and high availability. Also, SRUF considers that a single link failure is a low-probability event; hence it can achieve high performance. We perform experiments on real topologies to validate the flexibility, high-availability, and load balancing of SRUF. The results show that when given an availability requirement, SRUF has greater load balancing performance under uncertain failures and that when given a demand requirement, SRUF can achieve higher availability.

There are various research challenges in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) that need to be focused until an extensive deployment of it becomes conceivable. Design and development of a scalable routing algorithm for VANETs is one of the critical issue due to frequent path disruptions caused by the vehicle's mobility. This study aims to provide a novel road-aware routing protocol for vehicular networks named as Two-level hierarchical Hybrid Road-Aware (THERA) routing for vehicular ad hoc networks. The proposed protocol is designed explicitly for inter-vehicle communication. In THERA, roads are distributed into non-overlapping road segments to reduce the routing overhead. Unlike other protocols, discovery process does not flood the network with packet broadcasts. Instead, THERA uses the concept of Gateway Vehicles (GV) for the discovery process. In addition, a route between source and destination is flexible to changing topology, as THERA only requires road segment ID and destination ID for the communication. Furthermore, Road-Aware routing reduces the traffic congestion, bypasses the single point of failure, and facilitates the network management. Finally yet importantly, this paper also proposes a probabilistical model to estimate a path duration for each road segment using the highway mobility model. The flexibility of the proposed protocol is evaluated by performing extensive simulations in NS3. We have used SUMO simulator to generate real time vehicular traffic on the roads of Gangnam, South Korea. Comparative analysis of the results confirm that routing overhead for maintaining the network topology is smaller than few previously proposed routing algorithms.
This paper provides a thorough study on shared segment protection (SSP) for mesh communication networks in the complete routing information scenario, where the integer linear program (ILP) in [1] is extended such that the following two constraints are well addressed: (a) The restoration time constraint for each connection request, and (b) the switching/merging capacity constraint at each node. A novel approach, called SSP algorithm, is developed to reduce the extremely high computation complexity in solving the ILP formulation. Basically, our approach is to derive a good approximation on the parameters in the ILP by referring to the result of solving the corresponding shared path protection (SPP) problem. Thus, the design space can be significantly reduced by eliminating some edges in the graphs. We will show in the simulation that with our approach, the optimality can be achieved in most of the cases. To verify the proposed formulation and investigate the performance impairment in terms of average cost and success rate by the additional two constraints, extensive simulation work has been conducted on three network topologies, in which SPP and shared link protection (SLP) are implemented for comparison. We will demonstrate that the proposed SSP algorithm can effectively and efficiently solve the survivable routing problem with constraints on restoration time and switching/merging capability of each node. The comparison among the three protection types further verifies that SSP can yield significant advantages over SPP and SLP without taking much computation time.

Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) using inter-vehicle communication can potentially enhance traffic safety and facilitate many vehicular applications. Therefore, this paper proposes an inter-vehicle routing protocol called Junction-Assisted Routing (JAR) that uses fixed junction nodes to create the routing paths for VANETs in city environments. JAR is a proactive routing protocol that uses the Expected Transmission Count (ETC) for the road segment between two neighbor junctions as the routing paths between junction nodes. Simulation results showed that the proposed JAR protocol could outperform existing routing protocols in terms of the packet delivery ratio and average packet delay.

This paper presents a new symmetrical routing architecture for FPGA and an efficient routing algorithm for the architecture. The routing architecture adopts the segmented wires and the improved switch modules. Segmetned wires construct routing channels which pass through the chip in vertical and horizontal directions. To maximize the utility of a track, a track in each switch module can be separated in two part using a programmable switch to route two different net. The proposed routing algorithm finds all assignable tracks for a given net and selects the best track from assignable tracks to minimize the number of programmable switches and the unused portion of the wire segments. In order to stabilize the perfomrance of the algorithm, the routing order is defined by weighted sum of the number of wire segment, the length of wire segmetn, and the number of pin. Experimental results show that routability is improved dramatically and the number of crossing switches are reduced about 40% compared with the previous works.
Segment routing (SR) is a source-based routing architecture in which a node steers packets adhering to service and topological requirements. Using programmable segments, SR enables end-to-end service connectivity to satisfy the network constraints of various services. SR can be implemented with both MPLS and IPv6 dataplanes. This survey presents the overview of SR for IPv6 dataplane (SRv6), network programming technologies based on SRv6, and the SR deployment status.

Weather routing of a ship provides an optimal route to the destination by using minimal time or fuel in a given sea condition. These days, weather routing came into a spotlight with soaring fuel price and the environmental regulations of IMO and several countries. This study presents three scenarios of voyaging strategies for a ship and compared them in terms of the fuel consumption. The first strategy fixes the speed of a ship as a constant value for entire sailing course, the second fixes the RPM of the ship as constant for entire course, and the third determines the RPMs of the ship for each segment of the course. For each strategy, a ship route is optimized by using the $A^*$ search method. Wind, ocean current and wave are considered as ocean environment factors when seeking the optimal routes. Based on 7000 TEU container ship's sea trial records, simulation has been conducted for three scenarios, and the most efficient routing scenario is determined in the view of fuel consumption.

Minimization of total routing and number of cuts has been adopted for the placement problem in LSI and printed wire board as the object function, recently. Although it is considered that in the general situation this object function reflects the final goal which is wiring of 100% of layout, it often seems to be insufficient because it does not exhibit partial wire congestion. This paper introduces a new concept called the wire congestion of segestion to get the partial wire congestion and proposes the object function to minimize the wire congestion of segmests. In order to optimize this object function, an effective heuristic algorithm is also suggestsl Experimental results show that this algorithm sustains its efficiency. The experimental consequences point out that if the total routing length is short, maximum wire congestion of segment is small and vice versa. Therefore control parameter, that is, congestion parameter, which mintnizes total length and concurrently reduces maximal wire congestion of segment, is obtained by experiment.
