Effects of No-tillage Dry-seeding on Rice Growth and Soil Hardness

  • No-tillage dry-seeding of rice can offer potential benefits by reducing time and labor cost compared with conventional tillage practices. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of no-tillage dry-seeding on rice growth and soil hardness in comparison with other rice cultivation methods, machine transplanting and wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy. The seedling stand fell within optimum range for both no-till dry-seeding and wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy. Plant height, number of tillers and SPAD values in no-tillage dry-seeding cultivation were higher than those observed in other methods. There were no significant differences in grain yield of rice among three cultivation methods. The quality characteristics of milled rice grown in no-tillage dry-seeding were similar to those grown in other cultivation methods. Soil hardness in top 10 cm depth was significantly higher in no-tillage dry-seeding than other cultivation methods, while soil hardness below 10 cm depth was highest in machine transplanting cultivation. Results indicate that no-tillage dry-seeding practice is comparable to conventional tillage system in terms of seedling establishment, growth, yield and grain quality.

  • This study was done with mouse embryos to determine effects of the freezing media with or without 10% sucrose, and seeding methods (pincette, no seeding, liquid nitrogen gas phase and copper wire coiled straw) on embryo survival were determined using the FDA test. The summarized results are the following. 1. The FDA score found with copper wire coiled straw, no seeding, pincette and liquid nitrogen gas phase was 3.6, 3.6, 3.3 and 3.0, respectively. There were no significant differences. 2. The embryo score shows higher (P<0.05) survival rate using a freezing medium with sucrose than the one without it. Among the seeding procedure, better resutls are copper wire coiled straw and no seeded. 3. The results suggest that copper wire coiled seeding no seeding be as good as seeding when the mouse embryos were frozen in a liquid nitrogen container using both the freezing and dilution media containing 10% sucrose.

황금 파종기에 따른 주요형질 및 수량 (Effects of Planting Dates on Major Agronomic Characteristics and Yield of Sculellaria baicalensis George)

  • 남부지방에서 황금의 직파재배와 육묘이직 재배시 적정 파종기와 정식기를 구명하고자 시험을 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 출현은 황금의 파종기나 정식기가 빠를수록 늦어지고 늦어질수록 단축되는 경향으로 출현일수와 파종기 및 정식기간에는 고도의 부의 상관이 인정되었다. 2. 생육은 직파재배에 있어서 4월 15 일의 파종이 초장과 경태가 크고 분지수가 많아서 가장 양호하였으며, 육묘이식재배는 4월 1일 정식이 가장 좋은 경향이었다. 3 수량은 직파담배에서는 4월 15일 파종, 육묘 이식재배는 4월 1일 정식에서 근장이 가장 크고, 건근중이 무거워 수량이 증수되었다. 4 주요 형질간 상관을 보면 수량은 초장과 분지수, 그리고 근장과 정의 상관 관계를 나타내었고, 근장은 건근중과 건경중에 고도의 정의 상관 관계가 인정되었다.

Effects of sowing time and quantity on naked oat (Avena sativa L.) in South Korea

  • This study was conducted to evaluated the effects of different sowing time(October 22, February 20, March 3, March 13, and March 23) and sowing quantities(150kg/ha, 200kg/ha, 250kg/ha, and 300kg/ha) on growth of naked oat(Avena sativa L.) cultivar(Choyang-Gwiri) at a cultivation area in Iksan, south Korea. Heading times were delayed with later sowing times. In autumn seeding(Oct. 22) the ear was headed at April 30, in spring seeding(Feb. 20, Mar. 3, Mar. 13, and Mar. 23) heading times were respectively May 14, May 14, May 15, and May 19. Heading time of spring seeding was delayed about 3 weeks than autumn seeding. Ripening times were similar trends to the heading times. In autumn seeding ears were ripened at June 7, in spring seeding each times were respectively Jun. 15, Jun. 13, Jun. 20, and Jun. 20. Ripening time of spring seeding was delayed about 2 weeks than autumn seeding. Culm length and ear length were shortened in spring seeding, but number of plants per $m^2$ were increased. Number of grains per a ear were 106 in autumn seeding, but grains per a ear in spring seeding were respectively 88, 83, 83, and 73. Weight of 1,000 grains in spring seeding was heavier than that in autumn seeding, the weights were tend to light as later seeding times. Yield of grains was declined as later seeding times, yield of in autumn seeding was 2,900kg/ha, whereas that in spring seeding was 2,180kg/ha. The highest yield of spring seeding time was in Mar. 13, before this seeding time soil surfaces were severely dried as few rain fall, so germination was poor in those seeding times. As several seeding quantities were seeding, earing and ripening times were not different. but increasing seeding quantity, culm length was lengthened and ear length was shortened, number of plants per $m^2$ were increased and grains per a ear were reduced. Yield of grains were increased more seeding quantities, yield was highest up to 250kg/ha seeding quantity.

Effects of Ditching on Seedling Stand in Wet Direct Seeding Rice Culture

  • In order to develop more stable seedling stand method in wet direct rice seeding culture, the effect of making the drainage ditches was studied in both methods of broadcast seeding on floody paddy surface and puddled-soil drill seeding. In a broadcast seeding on floody paddy surface, the ditching after seeding using a tractor or small ditch maker improved the seedling stand, and reduced the floating seedling and herbicide injury by accelerating the drainage. Suitable ditching time was at 2 days after seeding (DAS) for the tractor and at 3 DAS for the ditch maker. In the puddled-soil drill rice seeding culture, the ditching before seeding with a ditch maker at 3 days after draining effectively improved the seedling stand due to quick draining through well formed the seeding furrows. In the puddled-soil drill seeding, seedling stand number showed higher in both ditching plots synchronized with seeding compared with both only draining treatment at 1 DAS without ditching and the flooding plot condition for 6 DAS. And the suitable ditching depth was 6 cm, as considered the ditching status and drained status. These results suggest that the ditching in wet direct rice seeding is an resonable practice for improving the seedling stand through the accelerating drainage of field.

후열처리 및 seeding 층이 초음파분무 MOCVD법에 의한 PLT 박막 제조 시 전기적 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of post-annealing and seeding layers on electrical properties of PLT thin films by MOCVD using ultrasonic spraying)

  • $(Pb_{1-x}La_x)TiO_3$ (x = 0.1) 박막을 초음파분무 MOCVD법으로 ITO-coated glass 기판 위에 제조하였다. PLT 박막 제조 시 후열처리 및 seeding layer가 결정화 및 미세구조, 전기적 특성에 대한 영향을 알아보았다. 후열처리에 의하여 박막의 결정성은 향상되었고 미세구조에도 영향을 주었으며, 전기적 특성은 이들 특성의 변화에 의해서 향상되었다. 그리고 seeding layer에 의한 핵 생성자리 제공에 의하여 결정성의 향상과 grain 크기의 증가에 의하여 박막의 전기적 특성 또한 향상되었다. Seeding layer를 가지고 60분 동안 후열처리를 한 박막이 가장 우수한 전기적 특성을 나타내었으며 이 박막의 1 kHz에서 유전 상수는 213을 나타내었다.

  • 남부지방에서 자소의 직파 재배시 적정 파종기를 구명하고자 시험을 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1 출현은 자소의 파종기가 빠를수록 늦어지고 늦어질수록 단축되는 경향으로 출현일수와 파종기간에는 고도의 부의 상관이 인정되었다. 2 생육은 4월 1일 파종이 경장과 경직경이 크고 분지수와 수수가 많아서 가장 양호한 경향이었다. 3 건경엽 수량은 4월 1일 파종이 경장이 크고 분지수가 많아 지상부의 생육이 양호하여 증수되었으며, 종실수량도 수당삭수와 수수가 많아 증수되는 경향이었다. 이상과 같은 결과로 보아 4월 1일 파종이 생육이 양호하여 경엽과 종실수량이 증가되어 남부지방의 알맞는 파종기로 생각된다.

돼지정액 동결중 식빙처리가 융해후 정자생존율 및 침체형태에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Seeding during Freezing Procedure on Post-Thaw Viability and Acrosome Integrity of Boar Spermatozoa)

  • To investigate the effects of seeding during freezing procedure on post-thaw viability, motility, and acrosome integrity of boar spermatozoa, semen from 5 Yorkshire boars were collected for this experiment. Raw semen were diluted with Merck I, subsequently added with cooling diluent containing lactose and egg yolk and with freezing diluent containing glycerol. The diluted semen were frozen on the rack in the styrofoam box filled with liquid nitrogen at the distance of 5 cm or I cm above LN2 level. Seeding was performed to only a group of straws frozen at 5 cm away on the surface of LN2. The frozen semen were thawed in $50^{\circ}C$C water and the viability and local motility were analyzed by sperm analysis imaging system. A part of thawed semen was taken for the examination of morphology of apical ridge of the acrosome to compare with the effect of seeding between the seeding-treated and non treated groups. I. Post-thaw viability was considerably higher in seeding-treated sperm than non-seeding group (p<0.01), however, no difference of local motility was obtained among the groups. 2. At three hours after thawing, viability was also higher in seeding-treated group than non-treated group (p<0.05), along with no difference of motility among the groups. 3. Higher normal acrosome integrity was obtained in the seeding-treated sperm than non-treated groups (p<0.01). 4. Between non-seeded groups, higher normal acrosome integrity was obtained in the sperm group frozen at 5cm upper on the surface of LN2 than that frozen at 1cm away (p<0.01). These results indicated that seeding treatment during freezing boar spermatozoa was beneficial to post-thaw viability and normal acrosome integrity.

Effects of Seeding Rates and Phosphorus Levels on the Productivity of Atylosia scarabeoides (Benth.)

  • Glasshouse investigations were carried out to investigate the development and yield of Atylosia scarabeoides on soils of the northern guinea savanah zone of Nigeria. Seeds were sown at four rates 50, 75, 100 and 125 kg/ha. Single superphosphate (SSP) fertilizer was applied at sowing at four rates 0, 60, 90 and 120 kg/ha. Seeding (plant) population at one month and at harvest was significantly (p < 0.01) influenced by seeding rate but not fertilizer level. Fresh herbage yield was strongly (p < 0.01) dependent on fertilizer level, with the highest (not significant) dry matter yield at 90 kg SSP/ha. Seeding rate had no significant effects on herbage yield. The crude protein content of herbage rose with increase in fertilizer level although there were no significant differences between the various seeding and phosphorus rates. No significant interactions were observed between seeding rate and phosphorus lever. The yields were generally high, indicating good prospects for pasture development with A. scarabeoides in the zone, although field trials would be of benefit.

Effects of Plant Types and Cultivars on Pod Yield in Late Seeding Peanut

  • This experiments were conducted to evaluate suitable plant-type and cultivars for producing fresh pod peanut from late seeding as succeeding crop, compared with early seeding as proceeding crop or single cropping. 12 cultivars according to grain weight and plant types, 6 virginia typed cultivars(ssp. hypogaea) and 6 shinpung typed cultivars(ssp. fastigiata), were used for early and late seedings. The plant growth and yield potential in early seeding were better than those in late seeding. But the ratios of dry/fresh pod and of mature pod in late seeding were higher than those of early seeding. The yield of fresh pod by cultivars in two seeding times showed significant correlation with pod scale such as fresh pod weight, 100-grain weight, and dry seed yield positively, but pod number negatively in early seeding only. Yield of fresh peanut between Virginia and Shinpung types didn't show significant difference in early seeding, but showed in late seeding. Average yield of Virginia typed cultivars showed significantly higher than that of Shinpung typed ones. This yield gap between two plant types was the same tendency on extending seedings to July 20.
