The Effect of Protein Source and Formaldehyde Treatment on Growth and Carcass Composition of Awassi Lambs

  • A trial with twenty-four newly weaned Awassi lambs (initial body weight=21.5$\pm$0.8 kg) was conducted using a 3$\times$2 factorial design to study the effect of feeding three sources of protein supplements (soybean meal (SBM), sunflower seed meal (SSM), and cottonseed meal (CSM)), either untreated or formaldehyde-treated on the growth performance and carcass traits of Awassi lambs. Lambs were randomly assigned to one of the six diets (4 lambs/treatment diet) and were individually fed for a period of 107 days. Experimental diets were isonitrogenous and isocaloric. Final live weight and average daily gain (ADG) were affected by both source of protein and formaldehyde treatment (undegradable protein). Lambs fed untreated diets had better (p<0.01) daily gain compared to those fed formaldehyde-treated diets. Similarly total feed intake per animal was significantly (p<0.05) affected by protein source and formaldehyde treatment. Formaldehyde treatment caused a significant decrease (p<0.01) in feed intake compared to lambs fed untreated diets. Feed requirement per unit of gain was not affected by formaldehyde treatment during all periods of the experiment except for the second period (the second 28 day period), whereby untreated SBM, SSM and CSM had better feed conversion ratio (FCR) than the treated groups. Source of protein had a moderate effect (p<0.10) on FCR but had a significant effect (p<0.05) on hot and cold carcass weight, digestive tract empty weight and liver weight, with lambs fed SBM having higher values than lambs fed SSM and CSM diets. Supplementation with undegradable protein had a significant effect (p<0.05) on dressing-out percentage (p<0.05), final live weight, and hot and cold carcass weight (p<0.01). The lower values pertain to lambs fed treated diets compared to lambs fed untreated diets. In general, there were no significant differences among all carcass linear dimensions, carcass cut weights and dissected loin tissue weights for both treatments (protein source and formaldehyde treatment). Supplementation with undegradable protein but not the source of protein resulted in significantly higher dissected leg total bone weight (p<0.05), tibia and femur weight (p<0.05), and femur length (p<0.01) at the same carcass weight. Results suggest that the treatment of SBM, SSM and CSM with formaldehyde did not improve efficiency of feed utilization, lamb performance or carcass traits and that the SBM diet resulted in an increase in lamb performance compared to other experimental diets.

Relative Performance of Fattening Lambs on Raw and Processed Cottonseed Meal Incorporated Diets

  • In order to find the feasibility of feeding raw or processed cotton (Gossypium) seed meal (CSM), 30 male crossbred lambs were randomly assigned to 5 dietary treatments with 6 animals each. Lambs were fed each of the isonitrogenous and isocaloric concentrate mixtures containing 30% deoiled groundnut cake (DGNC) (reference diet), 40% raw, 45 minute cooked, 1% $Ca(OH)_2$ or iron (1 part free gossypol:0.3 parts iron) treated CSM (replacing about 50% nitrogen moiety of reference concentrate mixture). The concentrate mixture was fed to meet 80% of CP requirements (NRC, 1985) along with ad libitum maize (Zea mays) hay for 180 days. Incorporation of raw or processed CSM did not affect the palatability of diets as evidenced by higher (p<0.01) or comparable overall daily intakes of DM and protein (CP and Digestible CP) per kg $W^{0.75}$ by lambs in comparison to reference group. Intakes of DE and ME increased (p<0.01) due to inclusion $Ca(OH)_2$ treated CSM in diets, while the intakes were lower (p<0.01) on iron treated CSM based diet when compared with reference diet. The intakes of DM, CP, TDN, DE and ME by reference and experimental lambs were higher than the requirements stipulated by NRC (1985). The growth rate was highest (p<0.01) in lambs fed on diets with cooked CSM followed by those fed raw or $Ca(OH)_2$ treated CSM based diets. The growth of lambs fed on iron treated CSM diets was depressed (p<0.01) in comparison to that of other experimental lambs probably due to increased iron intake (889 mg/kg DM of diet) which was much higher than the toxic levels of 500 ppm (NRC, 1980). The lambs on various diets utilized DM with similar efficiency while the utilization of energy (TDN, DE and ME) was more efficient (p<0.01) when the diets contained raw or cooked CSM in comparison to that of reference diet. The lambs fed raw and $Ca(OH)_2$ treated CSM incorporated diets utilized DCP with higher (p<0.01) efficiency than the lambs fed reference diet. The feed cost per kg weight gain was lower (p<0.01) on raw, cooked and $Ca(OH)_2$ treated CSM based diets in comparison to reference diet. Cooking of CSM for 45 minutes further reduced the feed cost of weight gain.

항균소재 함유 박스로 포장한 방울토마토와 밀감의 저장중 품질 특성 (Quality Characteristics of Cherry Tomato and Unshiu Orange Packaged with Box Incorporated with Antimicrobial Agents)

  • 항균소재를 함유한 포장지로 포장하여 실험실 조건하에서 저장하였을 때 방울토마토와 밀감의 저장기간 연장효과가 있는 것으로 나타난 항균포장지가 대규모 저장 및 유통시에도 적용이 가능한지를 알아보기 위하여 항균포장지를 함유한 박스에 방울토마토와 밀감을 담아서 냉장 창고에서 저장하면서 품질 변화를 고찰하였다. 즉 분말 형태의 식물성 천연항균제인 자몽추출물제재와 제올라이트를 각각 3% 및 6%를 넣어서 만든 항균포장지로 방울토마토와 밀감을 포장하여 $5^{\circ}C$에서 저장하면서 품질특성의 변화를 측정하였다. 저장 기간중 품질 변화의 지표로 중량감소율, pH, 총산, 가용성고형물, 총균수, 효모 및 곰팡이수 등을 측정하였다. 방울토마토의 pH는 저장 20일까지는 다소 증가하였으나 저장 40일에는 급격하게 감소하였다. 가용성 고형물은 포장 직후 5.5 $^{\circ}Brix$였으며, 저장 10일에 5.8 $^{\circ}Brix$까지 증가하였다. 포장 직후 방울토마토의 총균수는 $10^{2.87}CFU/g$, 효모 및 곰팡이는 $10^{2.76}CFU/g$ 이었으며, 저장 기간이 경과함에 따라 지속적으로 증가하였다. 저장 30일에 대조구는 11.5%, 항균포장지를 함유한 박스로 포장한 시험구는 1.5%의 부패가 발생하여 항균포장지를 함유한 박스포장이 방울토마토의 부패를 억제하는 효과가 있는 것으로 확인하였다. 밀감은 저장 직후 pH 3.78, 총산 0.68%였으며 저장 30일까지는 대체적으로 감소하였으나 가용성 고형물은 저장 직후 10.7 $^{\circ}Brix$ 였으며, 저장 30일까지는 다소 증가하였다. 포장 직후 밀감의 총균수는 $10^{4.01}CFU/g$이었으며, 효모 및 곰팡이는 $10^{3.99}CFU/g$이었고,저장기간이 경과함에 따라 지속적으로 증가하였다. 저장 20일에 대조구는 1.3%의 부패율을 나타내었으나 항균포장지를 함유한 박스에 포장한 밀감은 저장 30일에 부패가 발생하여, 대조구에 비하여 10일 정도 저장기간의 연장 효과가 있었다.

억새(Miscanthus sinensis) 성숙 종자로부터의 캘러스 유도 및 식물체 재분화 체계 확립 (Establishment of Callus Induction and Plant Regeneration System from Mature Seeds of Miscanthus sinensis)

  • 본 연구는 최근 한방자원, 사료자원, 바이오에너지 자원 등 다양하게 이용되는 국내 자생 억새(Miscanthus sinensis)의 대량생산 및 신품종 개발을 위한 조직배양체계 확립을 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위해 억새 완숙종자로부터의 캘러스 유도와 재분화를 위한 식물생장조절제의 적정농도를 규명하였다. 억새의 성숙종자유래 배발생 캘러스 유도를 위해 2,4-D, IBA, NAA를 1~10 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$의 농도로 단용 처리한 결과, 5 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 2,4-D 처리에서 가장 높은 85.3%의 캘러스 유도율과 캘러스의 증식을 보였으며 조직배양 과정 중 갈변화율도 가장 낮았다. 또한, 캘러스의 재분화를 위해 옥신인 NAA와 Kinetin, 2-iP, 또는 BAP 등의 사이토키닌을 혼용 처리한 결과, 각각 19.0%~59.0%, 23.0%~67.3%, 14.7%~83.7%의 재분화율을 보여 NAA와 BAP의 혼용 처리구가 NAA와 Kinetin 또는 2-iP와 혼용 처리구보다 식물체 재분화에 효과적이었다. 특히 3 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ NAA와 5 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ BAP 혼용 처리된 배지에서의 재분화율이 83.7%로 가장 높게 나타났으며, 캘러스 당 재분화 식물체 개수도 5.5개로 동일농도의 2-iP 또는 Kinetin 혼용 처리 시 2.1 및 2.0개보다 많았다. 본 연구결과 억새 성숙 종자로부터의 배발생 캘러스 유도에는 5 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 2,4-D가 그리고 캘러스의 재분화에는 3 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ NAA와 5 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ BAP 혼용 처리가 가장 효율적이었다. 본 연구를 통해 확립된 조직배양체계는 억새의 대량생산 및 신품종 개발에 유용할 것으로 판단된다.

In vitro Callus and Somatic Embryo Induction of Six Hosta Species Native to Korea

  • Hosta is a genus of the family Asparagaceae and distributed in East Asia. There are six Hosta species (Hosta capitata (Koidz.) Nakai, H. clausa Nakai, H. jonesii M.G.Chung, H. minor (Baker) Nakai, H. venusta F.Maek., and H. yingeri S.B.Jones) native to Korea and among them, four species (H. minor, H. jonesii, H. venusta and H. yingeri) are endemic to the Korea peninsula. Hosta is generally propagated by seed, crown division or tissue culture. However, tissue culture is a more efficient method to mass proliferation, a new cultivar development and disease-free plantlet production in a limit time. Hence, we conducted this study to evaluate the influence of various plant growth regulators (PGRs) treatments on the induction of callus and somatic embryo of the six Hosta species. Leaf, petiole and root were used to select optimum tissue culture explants. Petiole explants thus only were used for callus induction and somatic embryogenesis with TDZ (0.1, 0.5 or 1.0mg/L) and NAA (0.1 or 0.5 mg/L) combinations. After 12 weeks of culture, the highest rate of somatic embryogenesis was achieved on modificated MS medium containing 1.0 mg/L TDZ and 0.1 mg/L NAA in H. capitata and H. minor (15.5%, respectively), 0.1 or 0.5 mg/L TDZ and 0.1 mg/L NAA in H. jonesii (22.2%), 1.0 mg/L TDZ and 0.5 mg/L NAA in H. yingeri (26.7%), and 0.1 mg/L TDZ and 0.5 mg/L NAA in H. venusta (53.3%). H. clausa showed very low effect on somatic embryogenesis by PGRs; 2.2%. There was interspecies difference to PGRs respond for callus and somatic embryo induction. Regenerated multiple shoots and plantlet of H. minor, H. jonesii, H. venusta and H. yingeri were obtained via somatic embryogenesis.

재배방법(栽培方法)이 감자의 흑지병 발생(發生) 및 수량(收量)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effects of Cultural Methods on Infection by Rhizoctonia Disease (Rhizoctonia solani $K\"{u}hn$) and Yield of Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.))

  • 본(本) 시험(試驗)은 복토(覆土)깊이, 파종기(播種期), 최아방법(催芽方法) 및 고조제처리(枯凋劑處理)가 감자흑지병발생 및 수량(收量)에 미치는 영향(影響)을 구명(究明)하고자 남작(男爵)(Irish Cobbler)과 수미(秀美)(Superior)를 공시(供試)하여 실시(實施)하였으며 그 결과(結果)를 요약(要約)하면 다음과 같다. 1. 복토(覆土) 깊이가 깊을수록 출아(出芽)가 늦어졌으나 이병률(罹病率)은 뚜렷한 차이(差異)를 인정(認定)할 수 없었으며 수량(收量)은 10cm구(區)에서 증수(增收)하는 경향(傾向)이었다. 2. 이병률(罹病率)은 4월 28일 파종구(播種區)에서 가장 높았으며 5월(月) 이후(以後)의 파종간(播種間)에는 뚜렷한 차이(差異)가 없었다. 수량(收量)은 조기파종(旱期播種)인 4월(月) 28일(日) 파종(播種)에서 가장 낮았고 5월(月) 8일(日) 파종(播種)에서 가장 높았다. 3. 욕광최아처리구(浴光催芽處理區)에서 이병률(罹病率)이 가장 낮았고 수량(收量)은 가장 높았으며 무광최아(無光催芽)에서는 무최아(無催芽)보다도 이병률(罹病率)이 높았으며 수량(收量)은 낮았다. 4. 고조제처리(枯凋劑處理) 후(後) 수확시기(收穫時期)가 늦어질수록 이병괴경(罹病塊莖)이 증가(增加)하는 경향(傾向)을 보였는데 지상부(地上部) 고사(枯死) 후(後) $6{\sim}15$일(日)까지는 괴경이병율(塊莖罹病率)의 증가폭(增加幅)이 컸으나 그 후(後)부터는 완만(緩慢)하였다. 5. 나작(男爵)은 수미(秀美)보다 경(莖)의 이병률(罹病率)은 높았으나 괴경이병률(塊莖罹病率)은 낮은 경향(傾向)을 보였다.

Influence of Feeding Processed Cottonseed Meal on Meat and Wool Production of Lambs

  • In order to assess the effect of feeding raw or processed cotton (Gossypium) seed meal (CSM) on meat and wool production, 30 male crossbred lambs (3-4 months) of uniform body weight were assigned equally to five dietary treatments in a completely randomised design. The CSM was processed by three different methods i.e., cooking the meal at $100^{\circ}C$ for 45 minutes, treatment with 1% calcium hydroxide ($Ca(OH)_2$) for 24 h and iron treatment in the ratio of 1 part free gossypol (FG) to 0.3 parts of iron for 30 minutes. The lambs were fed isonitrogenous and isocaloric concentrate mixtures, containing 30% deoiled peanut meal (reference diet) and 40% of either raw, cooked, $Ca(OH)_2$ or iron treated CSM for 180 days. The raw and variously processed CSM replaced about 50% nitrogen of reference concentrate mixture. The concentrate mixtures were fed to meet 80% of the protein requirements (NRC, 1985) along with ad libitum chopped maize (Zea mays) hay. The slaughter weight, empty body weight and carcass weight was higher ($p{\leq}0.01$) in lambs fed cooked CSM incorporated diets, compared to diets containing deoiled peanut meal (DPNM). These parameters were not influenced by feeding diets containing either raw, $Ca(OH)_2$ or iron treated CSM in comparison DPNM diets. The carcass length, loin eye area and edible and inedible portion of carcass and the meat: bone ratio in whole carcass were also not affected by feeding CSM based diets. Among various primal cuts, the yield of legs was lower ($p{\leq}0.05$) from raw CSM fed lambs in comparison to DPNM fed lambs. The fat content in the Longissimus dorsi muscle was reduced ($p{\leq}0.05$) in lambs fed processed CSM based diets compared to those fed DPNM diet. Replacing DPNM with either raw or processed CSM based diets did not influence the sensory attributes and overall acceptability of meat. The wool yield was higher ($p{\leq}0.05$) in iron treated CSM fed lambs. The fibre length and fibre diameter were comparable among lambs on various dietary regimes. Among lambs fed variously processed CSM diets, the feed cost per kg of edible meat production was lower ($p{\leq}0.05$) on $Ca(OH)_2$ treated CSM, followed by cooked CSM diet and then on raw CSM based diets compared to DPNM diet. The CSM after 1% $Ca(OH)_2$ treatment or cooking for 45 minutes appears to be a satisfactory protein supplement in lamb diets for meat and wool production to replace at least 50% nitrogen of scarce and costly peanut meal.

수도작(水稻作) 기계화(機械化)에 관(關)한 조사연구(調査硏究) (육묘시기(育苗時期), 파종밀도(播種密度) 및 비료용량(肥料用量)이 수도상자묘(水稻箱子苗)의 성장(成長)에 미치는 영향(影響)) (Studies on the Mechanization of Rice Culture. Effect of Date and Rate of Seeding and Fertilization on the Growth of Rice Seedling)

  • 수도상자육묘(水稻箱子育苗)에 있어서 이상적(理想的)인 치묘(稚苗)와 중묘(中苗) 그리고 성묘(成苗)의 육성(育成)에 알맞은 재배조건(栽培條件)을 구명(究明)하고져 파종밀도(播種密度)와 비료용량(肥料用量), 육묘(育苗)의 시기(時期)와 일수(日數)의 영향(影響)을 분석(分析)한바, 파종량(播種量)은 적을수록, 시비량(施肥量)은 많을수록, 만파(晩播)일수록, 육묘기간(育苗期間)이 연장(延長)될수록 초장(草長), 엽수(葉數) 및 건물중(乾物重)은 증대(增大)하였는데 그 영향(影響)은 파종기(播種期)>육묘일수(育苗日數)>파종밀도(播種密度)>시비량(施肥量)의 순(順)으로 컸으며 조기파종시(早期播種時)에는 상자당(箱子當) 200g의 파종량(播種量)과 4g까지의 시비량하(施肥量下)에서 알맞은 치묘육성(稚苗育成)이 가능(可能)하였고 적당(適當)한 중묘(中苗)는 25일간(日間)의 육묘시(育苗時)에는 50g의 박파(薄播)에서, 그리고 35일묘(日苗)에서는 100~125g 범위(範圍)의 파종밀도하(播種密度下)에서 육성가능(育成可能)하나 45일묘(日苗)는 지나치게 웃자라 기계이앙용(機械移秧用)으로는 부적당(不適當)하였다. 만파시(晩播時)에도 같은 경향(傾向)이나 처리간차이(處理間差異)가 확대(擴大)되었으며 치묘(稚苗)는 상자당(箱子當) 100g 이하(以下)의 박파조건(薄播條件)에서 육성가능(育成可能)하였고 100내지(乃至) 150g의 파종밀도(播種密度)에 25일간(日間) 육묘(育苗)하므로서 알맞은 중묘(中苗)를 얻을 수 있었으나 35일(日) 이상(以上) 육묘일수(育苗日數)를 연장(延長)하면 지나치게 생장(生長)하거나 도장(徒長)하였고 성묘비율(成苗比率)도 현저(顯著)히 저하(低下)하였다.

지황재배시 재식방법이 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Planting Method on the Growth and Yield of Rehmannia glutinosa Liboschitz)

  • 지황 재배시 적합한 재식방법을 구명하고자 충북지방재래조을 공시하여 휴폭 200cm, 조간 30cm(6렬), 주간 8.5cm($\textrm{m}^2$당 30주)로 4월 23일에 파종하여 란괴법 3반복으로 시허믈 실시하였던 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 출현은 관행인 평식의 5월 23일 보다 사식, 직식에서 2~4일 늦었으며, 과자, 과장$\times$과폭 비 등은 큰차는 없었으나 평식>사식>직식 순이었다. 2. 지하부 생육중 근장과 근태는 평식 29.2cm, 10.0mm 보다 사식 3.4cm, 0mm, 직식은 2.8cm, 1.0mm가 각각 감소하였으며 당함량은 평식>사식>직식 순으로 많았다. 3. 10a당 총수량은 평식 1,203kg에 비하여 사식은 9%, 직식은 15%가 각각 감소되었고, 상품수량은 총수량과 같은 경향으로, 중부 내륙지방에서 지황 재배법 재식방법은 관행인 평식으로 하는 것이 유리하였다.

Effect of mixed sowing treatment of green manure crops on the change of soil nitrogen amount and yield production of corn

  • This study was conducted to find optimum mixed sowing ratio of green manure crops to reduce the use of chemical fertilizer as well as to increase the crop yield potential which will foster the utilization of green manure crops in the upland field in view of environment friendly agriculture. According to the study, the mixed ratio, 50:50, of hairy vetch and green barley showed highest nitrogen production yield in the soil due to the relatively higher organic nitrogen supply from the hairy vetch plant as well as nitrogen fixation from the air rather than other mixed ratio. In the 50:50 mixed ratio of hairy vetch and green barely total nitrogen amount in the soil showed 17.2kg per 10a, but in the other treatment ratio such as 75:25, 25:75. total nitrogen fixation amount were 16.7, 16.9 respectively. We also conducted the experiment to compare the effect of the mixed sowing treatment of green manure crops on the production of corn cultivated as a succeeding plant of hairy vetch. According to the result, the mixed ratio, 50:50, of hairy vetch and green barley treatment showed highest yield potential of corn as 153kg per 10a in seed weight which is due to the relatively higher organic nitrogen supply from the hairy vetch plant as well as nitrogen fixation from the air rather than other mixed ratio. In the mixed sowing treatment of hairy vetch 100 and barley 0 ratio, the corn production showed 148kg per 10a which is 5kg lower than that of hairy vetch 50 and barley 50 ratio, but showed statistically no difference between those two treatment. Otherwise, different treatments, such as hairy vetch 75 and barley 25, 25 and 75, 0 and 100 showed statistically different each other. Therefore, it was concluded that green manure crops, such as hairy vetch, green barley and rye were very effective crops to increase the soil fertility and gave the positive effect to the crops to give vegetative and propagative growth condition and, in turn, increased the yield potential. We have to make policy to enhance the utility of green manure crops in the upland crops as well as faddy field for the soil fertility and crop yield production which will guarantee prominent quality of environment friendly agriculture products.
