The seed dormancy of weed species is the important mechanisms to unfavorable conditions but it brings about critical problems in weed control. The factors which induced dormancy were varied with species and their physiological conditions. More than 20 of 50 species of dominant weed species showed the seed dormancy. When several physical treatments were given to seeds to break the dormancy, each species showed the different responses. The germination percentage and germination velocity were increased with alternating temperature. The treatment of more than 4 weeks of stratification had strong effect on dormancy breaking. The ${\alpha}-amylase$ activities of germinating seeds were increased in proportional to the period of stratification treatment of dormant seeds. The contents of soluble protein and soluble sugar were changed slightly with stratification.
Bacterial fruit blotch (BFB) caused by Acidovorax avenae subsp. citrulli is defective disease to watermelon cultivated areas. To control of BFB, we investigated control efficiency to use commercial antibacterial pesticides. Growth inhibition zone on medium were formed as oxolinic acid WP and oxytetracycline WP. Control efficacy of four anti-bacterial pesticides on seed and seedling stage were performed. As a results, oxytetracyclin WP is shown over 90% control efficiency on seed and acibenzolar-S-methyl + mancozeb WP shown over 90% control efficiency on seedling stage Hot-water treatment method could be possible to reduced infection rate on seed. The conditions of hot-water treatments are $50{\sim}55^{\circ}C$ on 20~30 minutes. These results suggested that the methods were helpful watermelon seedling nursery to control of the bacterial fruit blotch by A. avenae subsp. citrulli.
This experiment was designed to evaluate the effects of the processing method of common vetch seed (CVS) (Vicia sativa) on laying performance, egg quality, metabolic parameters and liver histopatology during the peak production period in hens. Lohman layers, 46 wk of age in 6 replicate cages each containing 4 hens, were allocated randomly to one of four dietary treatments. Diets were control (C) diet containing no common vetch and experimental diets containing 25% raw common vetch (RCV), 25% soaked in water for 72 h with exchange of water every 24 h (SCV) and 25% soaked&boiled at $100^{\circ}C$ for 30 minute common vetch (SBCV). Inclusion of RCV into the diet deteriorated all laying performance variables. SCV did not alleviate the adverse effect of raw common vetch on feed intake, egg weight, feed conversion, final weight and weight change. SCV partially alleviated egg production (p<0.001). SBCV diminished the adverse effect on feed intake, egg weight, feed conversion, final weight and weight change compared to raw vicia sativa (p<0.001). No significant difference was detected between SBCV and the control group in terms of egg production, feed conversion, final weight and weight change. Regardless of the processing method, all the common vetch groups had lower shell strength compared to the control group. Haugh units did differ between all groups (p<0.001). Inclusion of RCV and SCV into the basal diet decreased triglyceride, cholesterol, total protein and serum glucose concentrations (p<0.001). Hovewer, inclusion of SBCV into the basal diet increased these parameters. Liver samples were stained with Hematoxylin and eosin (HE) and evaluated by light microscopy. A biopsy of native liver tissue was used as a control. No histopathologic finding was present in the control group. Raw V. sativa compared with the control caused lipid accumulations in hepatocytes, severe congestion of hepatic blood vessels, inflammation, increased numbers of Kupffer cells and sinusoidal dilatations. Whereas, the livers from groups given treated V. sativa showed only different degrees of sinusoidal dilatations. Findings from the present study point out the risk of increased hepatic damage due to use of raw Vicia sativa. Increasing treatment of V. sativa lead to a decrease of liver damages. Inclusion of raw and soaked vetch seeds in rations affected adversely all parameters examined in laying hens. But alleviation was observed when soaked and boiled vetch seeds (SBCV) were fed. The results of these experiments indicated that soaked&boiled Vicia sativa seeds may safely be used at a 25% level in rations of laying hens.
New Guinea impatiens (Impatiens hawkeri) shows very sensitive responses to different light conditions. Due to these phenomena, testers of DUS (distinctness, uniformity and stability) for granting plant variety protection right often have problems distinguishing genetic or physiological differences. New Guinea impatiens 'Fishlimp 149' was grown under several light intensities in a rain-sheltered vinyl house to observe differences of plant growth and flowering. As compared with the control (avg. $1,010{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$), treatments of shade-1 (avg. $599{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$) and shade-2 (avg. $88{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$) showed increased plant height, plant width, leaf size and pedicel length. On the contrary, these growth parameters decreased in shade-3 (avg. $30{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$) with the lowest light intensity. Shade-1 treatment enhanced flower characteristics such as flower diameter, upper petal width, side petal width and lower petal length. However, these characteristics were suppressed by lower light intensities than that in shade-1. Anthocyanin contents of shoot, leaf and pedicel decreased with increasing shading, but that of flower petal was the greatest of the shade-1 treatment. Shade-1 treatment showed the greatest Hunter a value analyzed by a colorimeter, and L and b values increased with increasing shading. Shade-1 treatment seemed to be provided the most proper light condition for DUS test of New Guinea impatiens. Additionally, anthocyanin accumulation on New Guinea impatiens during DUS test was due to not genetic differences but physiological phenomenon.

This experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of Chlorella culture solution using anaerobic digestate as medium on seed germination of perennial ryegrass seeds. Four treatments were compared: control with distilled water, anaerobic digestate, Chlorella culture solution and Chlorella culture filtrate. The germination percentage of perennial ryegrass seeds was highest in the Chlorella culture solution treatment. Days required for 50, 70% seed germination were faster at 1.7 day in Chlorella culture solution compared to control. Root length of perennial ryegrass seeds was longer by 1~2cm in the Chlorella culture solution compared with control. The relative root length was by 40% longer in the Chlorella culture solution treatment compared to control. The germination index (GI) of perennial ryegrass seeds was higher by 180~202% in the Chlorella culture solution treatment compared to control. The decay rate was low as 50.0% in Chlorella culture solution, but decay rate of perennial ryegrass seeds showed 86.7~83.3% in control plot and in anaerobic digestate, respectively. Chlorella culture solution have shown stimulatory effects in germination and development of root. Overall, Chlorella culture solution could be useful to apply for promotion of germination and root elongation of seeds.
Present experiments are conducted to study the seed viability and optimum germination temperature of Polygonatum odoratum var. pluriflorum that is known to have low germination ability and long germination duration. To enhance germination rate, various growth regulators and inorganic salts were employed. Low germination rate was obtained with 4 year old seeds, but not with $1{\sim}2$ year old seeds. The seeds germinated very well under $22{\sim}25^{\circ}C$ and germinated speed was rapid. Especially, $1{\sim}2$ year old seeds germinated at $25^{\circ}C$ showed $70{\sim}71.2%$ germination rate. Priming treatments using $GA_3$, IAA, NAA, kinetin, $KNO_3$, $KH_2PO_4$, $Ca(NO_3)_2$ were effective compared to control except BA. 1 year old seeds treated with $GA_3$ 0.5 mM and IAA 1 mM showed 96% and 93% germination rate, respectively.
Seedling blight of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is one of the most serious diseases in Korea. This study was performed to control seedling blight in the field where sesame has been cultured for 4 years of Industrial Crop Division at the Crop Experiment Station. The pathogenic fungi of seedling blight which is known Fusarium oxysporum f. vasinfectium and Rhizoctonia solani was inoculated to the wheat media and it was spreaded on the experimental field in the concentration of 109 of wheat media mixed with 10g of fine soil. Seed sterilization was the most effective method for seedling blight control for two year experiment. Seed sterilant Benlate-T was highly effective for con trolling seedling blight with infection rate of 4% and yield of 40.7kg per 10a comparing to the control with infection rate of 96% and grain yield of 6.4kg per l0a, the other chemicals, Busan 30, Vitathiram, Captan showed good effect to control seedling blight, but less effect to the Benlate-T. The spraying treatments on leaf surface 25 days after sowing were not effective to seedling blight.
The purpose of this study was to identify the propagation characteristics of Diabelia spathulata (Siebold & Zucc.) Landrein through seeding and cutting methods. The seed germination rate was meager (0.22~3.56%). In hardwood cutting, the highest rooting rate was 36.1% in sand + perlite (2:1) and 37.8% in 1000 PPM of IBA pre-treatment. Softwood cutting showed the highest rooting rate when the cutting diameter was 3 to 5 mm and the cutting length was 7 to 8 cm. In particular, the highest rooting rate of 80% was observed in the sand among the 8 cultivation media treatments. In the case of root cuttings, the rooting rate was 83.3~96.7% in all cultivation media. The highest rooting rate was observed when the diameter of the cutting was 7 to 8 mm, and the length of the cutting was about 10 to 11 cm. Among cutting methods, root cutting showed the highest rooting rate. Division showed a 100% rooting rate regardless of size or growth status. For Diabelia spathulata (Siebold & Zucc.) Landrein, propagation by cuttings was more efficient than seeding. However, Further research on the morphophysiological dormancy and dormancy break of seeds is needed for seed propagation.

The germination characteristics of Pseudolysimachion kiusianum var. diamantiacum (Nakai) T.Yamaz., a rare and endemic plant designated by the Korea Forest Service, were investigated according to light conditions, temperature, and pretreatment. As a result of the germination experiment according to light conditions, it was determined that P. kiusianum is a photoblastic seed that does not germinate at all in dark conditions. The optimum germination temperature of the seeds was found to be 20-25℃, considering the final germination rate and germination time. Three growth regulators (IAA, GA3, kinetin) and two inorganic salts (KNO3, KCl) were pretreated to improve the germination rate of P. kiusianum seeds. The growth regulators IAA and kinetin had no significant effect on improving the germination rate of P. kiusianum seeds. On the other hand, GA3 significantly increased the final germination percentage and germination rate regardless of the concentration, especially the treatment of more than 500 mg·L-1 at 20℃ was more than 4 times more effective than the untreated. The inorganic salts KNO3 and KCl had no significant effect on the seeds of P. kiusianum at low concentrations, but at higher concentrations (40 mM and 300 mM, respectively), they improved the germination rate and germination age by 2 times compared to the untreated. The results of this study will be useful for the mass propagation of P. kiusianum, which has the potential to be utilized as a native plant for restoration.

Two experiments were carried out to assess the appropriate incubation conditions namely; duration, moisture content and the ideal microbial inoculant for fermented dried food waste(EW) offered to broilers. The nutrient utilization of birds fed the FW diets at varying dietary inclusion rates was also compared with a control diet. In Experiment 1, different moisture contents(MC) of 30, 40, 50 and $60\%$ respectively were predetermined to establish the ideal duration of incubation and the microbial inoculant. A 1mL Aspergillus oryzae(AO) $(1.33\times10^5\;CFU/mL)$ was used as the seed inoculant in FW. This results indicated that the ideal MC for incubation was $40\~50\%$ while the normal incubation time was > 72 hours. Consequently, AO seeds at 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00mL were inoculated in FW to determine its effect on AO count. The comparative AO count of FW incubated for 12 and 96 hours, respectively showed no significant differences among varying inoculant dosage rates. The FW inoculated with lower AO seeds at 0.10, 0.05 and 0.01mL were likewise incubated for 72 and 96 hours, respectively and no changes in AO count was detected(p<0.05). The above findings indicated that the incubation requirements for FW should be $%40\~50\%$ for 72 hours with an AO seed incoulant dosage rate of 0.10mL. Consequently, in Experiment II, after determining the appropriate processing condition for the FW, 20 five-week old male Hubbard strain were used in a digestibility experiment. The birds were divided into 4 groups with 5 pens(1 bird per pen). The dietary treatments were; Treatment 1 : Control(Basal diet), Treatment 2 : $60\%$ Basal+4$40\%$ FW, Treatment 3 : $60\%$$Basal+20\%\;FW+20\%$ AFW(Aspergillus oryzae inoculate dried food-waste diet) and Treatment 4: $60\%$ Basal+$40\%$ Am. Digestibility of treatment 2 was lowed on common nutrients and amino acids compared with control(p<0.05) and on crude fat and phosphorus compared with AFW treatments(T3, T4)(plt;0.05). Digestibility of treatment 3 and 4 increased on crude fiber and crude ash compared treatment 2 (p<0.05). Digestibility of control was high on agrinine, leucine, and phenylalnine of essential amino acids compared with treatment 3 and 4(p<0.05), and diestibility of treatment 3 and 4 was improved on arginine, lysine, and threonine of essential amino acids. Finally, despite comparable nutrient utilization among treatments, birds fed the dietary treatment containing AO tended to superior nutrient digestion to those fed the $60\%$ Basa1+$40\%$ FW.
