The Hoelyongpo in the Naeseong River as tributary basin of the Nakdong River is broadly well-known a tourist attraction, which is made of sandy beach, and is called "Island of Inland". But Construction of the Dam was planned at upstream of river. In other words, an influx of sediment is blocked from upstream of river. In this situation, through sediment discharge coming from tributary of the Naeseong river, the whether to go ahead of sand beach of the Hoelyongpo is analyzed by using 1-D and 2-D model. The sediment discharge is estimated through ratio raw with basin area, and the instream flow requirement of river coming from dam and the flow rate and sediment coming from tributary are inputted for model. The 1-D model uses HEC-6 and the 2-D model uses SMS(RMA2 and SED2D). The analysis using the HEC-6 is performed from cross section data 10 year ago to the present cross section. Consequently, Yang equation presenting similar result to the present cross section data is determined, using this, the prediction is conducted for the cross section after 20 years. The 2-D analysis is conducted for the present cross section data. The value of distinction between a deposition and erosion with the results presented in the 1, 2-D models is occur, however, the appearance between the deposition and the erosion is similar.

The time consuming and expensive nature of experimental research on scouring processes caused by flowing water makes it attractive to develop numerical tools for the predication of the interaction of the fluid flow and the movable bed. In this paper the numerical simulation of scour by a wall jet is presented. The flow is assumed to be two-dimensional, and the alluvium is cohesionless. The solution process, repeated at each time step, involves simulation of a turbulent wall jet flow, solution of the convection-diffusion of sand concentration, and prediction of the bed deformation. For simulation of the jet flow, the governing equations for momentum, mass balance and turbulent parameters are solved by the finite volume method. The SIMPLE scheme with momentum interpolation is used for pressure correction. The convection-diffusion equation is solved for sediment concentration. A boundary condition for concentration at the bed, which takes into account the effect of bed-load, is implemented. The time rate of deposition and scour at the bed is obtained by solving the continuity equation for sediment. The shape and position of the scour hole and deposition of the bed material downstream of the hole appear realistic.
Accelerated soil erosion due to extreme climate change, such as increased rainfall intensity, and human-induced environmental changes, is a widely recognized problem. Existing soil erosion models are generally based on the gross erosion concept to compute annual upland soil loss in tons per acre per year. However, such models are not suitable for event-based simulations of erosion and deposition in time and space. Recent advances in computer geographic information system (GIS) technologies have allowed hydrologists to develop physically based models, and the trend in erosion prediction is towards process-based models, instead of conceptually lumped models. This study aims to propose an effective and robust distributed rainfall-sediment yield-runoff model consisting of basic element modules: a rainfall-runoff module based on the kinematic wave method for subsurface and surface flow, and a runoff-sediment yield-runoff model based on the unit stream power method. The model was tested on the Cheoncheon catchment, upstream of the Yongdam dam using hydrological data for three extreme flood events due to typhoons. The model provided acceptable simulation results with respect to both discharge and sediment discharge even though the simulated sedigraphs were underestimated, compared to observations. The spatial distribution of erosion and deposition demonstrated that eroded sediment loads were deposited in the cells along the channel network, which have a short overland flow length and a gentle local slope while the erosion rate increased as rainfall became larger. Additionally, spatially heterogeneous rainfall intensity, dependant on Thiessen polygons, led to spatially-distinct erosion and deposition patterns.

In this study, a jetty construction is taken into account for the reduction of sediment diffusive concentration incoming from the upstream river due to the urbanization and industrial development and to minimize the effects on the coastal ecosystems. The field observation and numerical calculation are conducted to analyze the diffusion zone of sediment concentration in the small estuary and coastal area. The specification of the installed jetty which is able to control the sediment concentration was decided based on the prediction of the dispersion area changes in space and time. The selected size and layout for the jetty design were examined for the dispersion zone by numerical calculation and field observation. As a result, the jetties constructed in the estuary retarded the dispersion rate of sediment concentration, so that the effect area of sediment dispersion was obviously decreased. In addition, the measured field data indicated that the sediment deposition in the inside of dikes could be controlled and the right side area of jetties could be preserved without influx sediment diffusion.
A 2-dimensional numerical sediment transport model has been developed by using erosion rates observed by SEDFLUME. The model un boundary-fitted coordinate can reduce inaccuracy of sediment model with accurate erosion data. Suspended transport and bed load transport are included in the model together. The model results gave good agreement with particle size distributions in 1-d channel and was more accurate than that of HIDAS of 1-dimensional model. The model applied to an enlarging channel to check model performance in 2-dimensional domain. Bed coarsening reduced erosion and deposition.
During period of the rainy season of spring tide Aug. 2005, the suspended sediment transport rate from Seomjin River increased ten times as high as neap tide of low river discharge. During ebb tide of high terrestrial input, the grain size of suspended particles of both surface and bottom layer of the water column, showed a uni-modal distribution with a dominant peak at coarse fraction, which suggests a characteristic development of floc-sized particles of low mean effective density. On the contrary, the particles supplied toward upstream of Seomjin river from Gwangyang Bay during flood tide showed a bi-modal distribution with a secondary peak at finer fraction, possibly due to the resuspension and the deflocculation associated with the increased shear velocity at near bottom. Break-up of large flocs is also suggested by the increased mean effective density. However, settling velocity was lower during flood tide because of smaller grain size. Thus, net deposition of suspended sediment is expected at within Gwangyang Bay instead of upstream of Seomjin River, even though suspended sediment transport rate at near bottom water was three times higher than that at surface water during flood tide.
Based on the data obtained under the China-Korea joint project (1997-2001) and historic observations, the distribution, transportation and sedimentation of sediment in the southern Yellow Sea (SYS) are discussed, and the controversial formation mechanism of muddy sediments is also explored. The sediment transport trend analysis indicates that the net transport direction of sediment in the central SYS (a fine-grained sediment deposited area) points to $123.4^{\circ}E,\;35.1^{\circ}N$, which is a possible sedimentation center in the central SYS. The sediment transport pattern is verified by the distribution of total suspended matter (TSM) concentration and ${\delta}^{13}C$ values of particulate organic carbon (POC), the latter indicates that the bottom water plays a more important role than the surface water in transporting the terrigenous material to the central deep-water area of the SYS, and the Yellow Sea circulation is an important control factor for the sediment transport pattern in the SYS. The carbon isotope signals of organic matter in sediments indicate that the Shandong subaqueous delta has high sedimentation rate and the deposited sediments originate mainly from the modern Yellow River. The terrigenous sediments in deep-water area of the SYS originate mainly from the old Yellow River and the modern Yellow River, and only a small portion originates from the modern Yangtze River. The analytical results of TSM and stable carbon isotopes are further confirmed by another independent tracer of sediment source, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Five light mineral provinces in the SYS can be identified and they indicate inhomogeneity in sources and sedimentary environment. The modern shelf sedimentary processes in the SYS are controlled by shelf dynamic factors. The muddy depositional systems are produced in the shelf low-energy environments, which are controlled by some meso-scale cyclonic eddies (cold eddies) in the central SYS and the area southwest of the Cheju Island. On the contrary, an anticyclonic muddy depositional system (warm eddy sediment) appears in the southeast of the SYS (the area northwest of the Cheju Island). In this study, we give the cyclonic and anticyclonic eddy sedimentation patterns.

As a method of countermeasure to bed degradation and armoring phenomena of bed material in the downstream area of dam reservoirs, sediment augmentation (replenished sediment) has been carried out in many Japanese rivers. In general, bed of the replenished sediment site is composed of rocks, because the site is located in the downstream area of the dams and sediment supply is very small. Bed deformation process has been researched by many researchers. However, most of them can treat movable bed only and cannot be applied to the bed deformation process of sediment on rocks. If the friction angle between the sediment and the bed surface is assumed to be the same as the friction angle between the sediment and the sediment, sediment transport rate must be smaller without sediment deposition layer on the rocks. As a result, the reproduced bed geometry is affected very well. In this study, non-equilibrium transport process of non-cohesive sediment on rigid bed is introduced into the horizontal two dimensional bed deformation model and the model is applied to the erosion process of replenished sediment on rock in the Nakagawa, Japan. Here, the Japanese largest scale sediment augmentation has been performed in the Nakagawa. The results show that the amounts of the eroded sediment and the remained sediment reproduced by the developed numerical model are $56300m^3$ and $26800m^3$, respectively. On the other hand, the amounts of the eroded sediment and the remained sediment measured in the field after the floods are $56600m^3$ and $26500m^3$, respectively. The difference between the model and field data is very small. Furthermore, the bed geometry of the replenished sediment after the floods reproduced by the developed model has a good agreement with the measured bed geometry after the floods. These results indicate that the developed model is able to simulate the erosion process of replenished sediment on rocks very well. Furthermore, the erosion speed of the replenished sediment during the decreasing process of the water discharge is faster than that during the increasing process of the water discharge. The replenished sediment is eroded well, when the top of the replenished sediment is covered by the water. In general, water surface level is kept to be high during the decreasing process of the discharge during floods, because water surface level at the downstream end is high. Hence, it is considered that the high water surface level during the decreasing process of the water discharge affects on the fast erosion of the replenished sediment.
The southern tidal flat of Kanghwa Island with an area of approximately $90km^2$ is one of the biggest flats on the west coast of Korea. Surface sediments for sedimentary analyses were sampled at 83 stations in August 1997, September 1999 and August 2000. The very poorly-sorted mud sediments were predominant in the eastern part of the tidal flat, whereas the poorly-sorted sand-mud mixed sediments were dominant in the western part. The area of muddy sediment distribution diminished, but that of sandy mud sediment extended to southeastward tidal flat for three years. In the western part of tidal flat, deposition occurred during the period of spring to summer, whereas erosion occurred in winter. Sediment accumulation rates during three years indicated that the sediments deposited continuously in the eastern part of tidal flat, whereas eroded in the western part of tidal flat. Recently, construction of artificial structures such as new airport, island-connecting bridges and dikes near the tidal flat might change tidal current and river flow pattern. In order to reduce the ecological damage and to preserve tidal-flat environment, it is necessary to Investigate long-term impacts on sedimentary environment and ecology.

A coupling of two-dimensional model and GIS technique is applied to simulate sediment transport analysis. Accurate transformations are performed for the data which have various reduced scales. Basic maps are discretized the mesh of true scale for the finite element model by using the digital map and the Traverse Mercator coordinate. Under $200m^3/s$ flow rate condition, velocity vectors, depth contours, velocity contours and deposition contours are Presented for the 5km reach of midstream of Keum River from confluence of Ji-chun to Baekche Bridge. The simulation results of the study agree well with those of one-dimensional varied flow analysis and observed data. The flow and deposition pattern revealed a meandering characteristics of the river qualitatively.
