The Imha watershed is vulnerable to severe erosion due to the topographical characteristics such as mountainous steep slopes. The RUSLE model was combined with GIS techniques to analyze the mean annual erosion losses and the soil losses caused by typhoon "Maemi". The model is used to evaluate the spatial distribution of soil loss rates under different land uses. The mean annual soil loss rate and soil losses caused by typhoon "Maemi"were predicted as $3,450\;tons/km^2/year$ and $2,920\;ton/km^2/"Maemi"$, respectively. The sediment delivery ratio was determined to be about 25% from the mean annual soil loss rate and the surveyed sediment deposits in the Imha reservoir in 1997.
Geographic Information System (GIS) combined with Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) was used to estimate the soil erosion of Asan Bay experiment watershed in Korea. Spatial data for each USLE factors were obtained from the Landsat-5 TM remote sensing images and 1/25,000 scale digital contour maps. Sediment yield to Asan Bay was estimated by the sediment delivery ratio and trap efficiency. The estimated sediment yield was compared with observed on the Asan and Sapgyo estuary sub-watershed within Asan Bay experimental watershed for the period from 1981 to 2000. The calculated total annual sediment yields from Asan and Sapgyo estuary sub-watershed to Asan Bay were 5,665tonnes/yr and 6,766tonnes/yr, respectively. The measured sediment yields were 12,937tonnes/yr and 12,395tonnes/yr, respectively on an average.

In occasion of soil loss happened in a basin, soil in the near of a stream may flow into the stream easily, but in case that soil is far away from the stream, sediment yield transferred to rivers by rainfall diminishes. To forecast sediment yield of a stream is an essential item for management of basins and streams. Therefore, sediment yield of soil loss produced from a basin is needed to be calculated as accurate as possible. Purpose of the present research is to calculate soil erosion amount in a basin and to forecast sediment yield flowed into a stream by rainfall and analyze sediment yield in the stream. There are various methods that analyze sediment yield of rivers. In the present study, the soil erosion amount was calculated using Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation(RUSLE) and GRID, and sediment yield was calculated using sediment delivery ratio and empirical methods. DEM data, slope of basin, soil map and landuse constructed by GIS were used for input data of RUSLE. The upstream area of the Yeongsan river basin in Gwangju metropolitan city was selected for the study area. Three methods according to the calculation of LS factor were applied to estimate the soil erosion amount. Two sediment delivery ratio methods for the respective methods were applied and, correspondingly, six occasions in sediment yield were calculated. In addition, the above results were compared by relative amount with estimation by the empirical method of Ministry of Construction & Transportation. Sediment yield calculated in the present study may be utilized for the plan, design and management of dams and channels, and evaluation of disaster impact.
In this study, a two-dimensional model for identifying areas of erosion and deposition over a basin was developed based on the mass balance principle in a distributed model. The program consists of three steps: (a) estimation of soil erosion; (b) determination of flow amount and direction; and (c) estimation of mass balance. Soil erosion was estimated with USLE. A single-direction (SF) and a multi-direction flow algorithm (MF) were applied to estimate slope length (L). The Maximum Downhill Slope Method (MDS) and the Neighborhood Method (NBH) were used to estimate the slope degree (S). Sediment transport resulting from eroded soil was estimated using Ferro's (1998) and Swift's (2000) sediment delivery ratio (DR). The model was validated by comparing the predicted sediment yields for three basins with measured data. The developed algorithm showed that Ferro's DR method combined with the MDS and MF produced the best agreement with the dredging records of three agricultural reservoir basins in Korea.

The muddy water occurrence possibility of reservoir were analyzed by considering GIS based soil erosion model, sediment delivery ratio and effective reservoir capacity. For the purpose, the weakness factors for the establishment of countermeasures of basin were analyzed by evaluating input factors of RUSLE model based on spatial data such as DEM, soil map, landcover map and so on. The potential of soil erosion was estimated considering highland upland. The sediment yields of Chungju-Dam and Soyanggang-Dam showed the highest result in sediment yield using sediment delivery ratio with considering basin area. The sediment concentration of Imha-Dam and Chungju-Dam showed the highest value as 0.791 $kg/m^3/yr$ and 0.526 $kg/m^3/yr$ respectively in sediment concentration with considering effective reservoir capacity. Especially, sediment yield of Imha-Dam was about 2.36 times lower than Soyanggang-Dam, but the sediment concentration was 1.90 times higher preferably, because the effective reservoir capacity of Imha-Dam was about 4.48 times lower. This study calculated sediment concentration using the 10 years mean rainfall event and could consider the aspects of soil, terrain, landcover, cultivation condition and effective reservoir capacity of each basin effectively through the results. Therefore, these quantitative sediment concentration data could be used to estimate the potential of high density turbid water for reservoir and applied with effective tools for the management of reservoir.
Sediment disaster happen frequently in our country every year, and a lot of lives and the properties have been lost because of them. Non-structural measures for prevention of sediment disaster have been introduced by prefectures based on the Sediment-related Disaster Prevention Law established after the devastating rainstorm damage in Hiroshima in 1999. They include formulation of sediment disaster warning and evacuation standard rainfall and designation of sediment disaster warning zones and sediment disaster special warning zones. As a practical example, this research focused on the case of "TEC-FORCE" of "MLIT of Japan" as a method of utilizing professional workforce and the sediment disaster warning information delivery system in Kagoshima. In the future, it will be called for prevention and reduction of damages by utilizing professional workforce and sediment disaster response system such as Japan.
A method of estimating pollutant delivery ratios considering watershed physical and meteorological characteristics and flow conditions using SWAT-K watershed model was described, and pollutant delivery characteristics during dry and rainy seasons, for monthly and seasonally, and with flow regimes were investigated for the Chungju dam watershed. Delivery ratios for sediment, T-N, and T-P showed higher values over 100% during dry and winter seasons with low pollutant loads and flows, and showed relatively uniform ones under 100% during rainy and summer seasons with concentrated loads and flows. It was found that mainly wet flows during summer seasons played very important roles in investigating the delivery characteristics of total or nonpoint pollutant loads, because more than 90% of total loads were influenced by nonpoint source, and discharged with the flows. From the results, we could find out the delivery characteristics with various watershed and flow conditions which are difficult to consider by actual measurement, and could get a foothold of estimating more reasonable and scientific allocated loads for water quality standard using the reliable method of estimating delivery ratios with a watershed model.

The purpose of this study is to estimate quantitatively soil loss and sediment yield in alpine farmland. For this purpose, Naerinchon watershed in Gangwon province was selected as our study area and total annual soil loss and sediment yield was estimated respectively by the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) model and the Sediment Delivery Distributed (SEDD) model. The results of this study clearly show that dry field areas have significant impact on the total soil erosion and sediment yield compared with other land use. Dry field areas represent only $2.6\%$ of the total area of the watershed but soil loss and sediment yield account for $10.9\%$ and $33.12\%$ of the total amount respectively Especially as with alpine farmland, this result is more clearly shown. These areas account for $1.8\%$ of the entire watershed but contribute to $7.7\%$ and $15\%$ of the total soil loss and sediment yield respectively. From the above results, we can know that alpine farmland is important source of soil loss and sediment yield and it is need to prevent and control. soil erosion from alpine filmland urgently.
