  • Network security should be first considered in a distributed computing environment with frequent information interchange through internet. Clear classification is needed for information users should protect and for information open outside. Basically proper encrypted database system should be constructed for information security, and security policy should be planned for each site. This paper describes access control, user authentication, and User Security and Encryption technology for the construction of database security system from network users. We propose model of network encrypted database security system for combining these elements through the analysis of operational and technological elements. Systematic combination of operational and technological elements with proposed model can construct encrypted database security system secured from unauthorized users in distributed computing environment.

  • Database security is essential to protect their data in most organization such as hospitals, central or local governments, banks which manage the private, sensitive and important data. Because the duty of the department recently became more various and complicated, the changes of security requirement are needed more frequently. Therefore, easily changeable, flexible security policy and efficient security management with preserving the integrity of security policy are very important. In this paper, we implemented a flexible database security system in the specimen and clinical information management system of leukemic research center using IRH(Improved Role Hierarchy). Data is protected by MAC and we propose a flexible access control and effective administration by using the IRH that is an improved role hierarchy of RBAC. If security policy is needed for changes, this system can do it easily by simply modifying the IRH with the decentralized administration. The modified security policy can be applied flexibly after alteration because the security level of the subject is not fixed but can be derived automatically from the IRH when user connects the system.

  • With a remarkable growth and expansion of Internet, the security issues emerged from intrusions and attacks such as computer viruses, denial of services and hackings to destroy information have been considered as serious threats for Internet and the private networks. To protect networks from intrusions and attacks, many vendors have developed various security systems such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems. However, managing these systems individually demands too much work and high cost. Thus, integrated and autonomous security management for various security products has become more important. In this paper, we present the architecture of the WISMSF (Web-based Integrated Security Management System for Firewalls) and the merits of centralized approach for managing heterogeneous firewalls and implement the prototype of the central policy database that is a component of the WISMSF engine. The WISMSF engine supports an integrated view for policies, the integrity of polities and the easy recovery and addition of policies. And also, we define the policy conflicts of WISMSF and present the policy recovery process to support to the policies consistence.

  • Full-mesh IPSec tunnels, which constitute a black network, are required so that the dynamically changing PT (Plain Text) networks can be reachable across the black network in military environments. In the secure and mobile black networks, dynamically re-configuring IPSec tunnels and security policy database (SPD) is very difficult to manage. In this paper, for the purpose of solving mobility and security issues in military networks, we suggest the relating main technologies in association with DMIDP (Dynamic Multicast-based IPSec Discovery Protocol) based on existing IPSec ESP (Encapsulating Security Payload) tunnels and IPSec key managements. We investigate the main parameters of the proposed DMIDP techniques and their operational schemes which have effects on mobility and analyze operational effectivemess of the DMIDP with proposed parameters.

  • There are many security models for database systems using policy-based access control. RBAC (Role-based Access Control) is used for complementing MAC (Mandatory Access Control) and DAC (Discretionary Access Control) and is for performing flexibly security policies meet applied environment. We implemented the database security system that applies DAC, MAC, and RBAC to meet security requirements of users. However, security policies are constructed redundantly whenever security policies are needed to each user in this system. Even though the proposed security system can flexibly control more complicated 'read' access to various data sizes for individual users, it is obvious that there is a possibility that a new policy can be a duplication of existing policies. In this paper, we introduce the problem of policy duplication and propose the policy management module. With this proposed module, constructed policies are checked for duplication and deleted or merged with existing policies.

  • While new information technology advances have made information access and acquisition methods much more diverse and easier, there are side effects that allow illegal access using diverse and high-performance tools. In order to cope with such threats, there are access control methods in database technology, and various studies are being conducted to extend traditional access control to cope with new computing environments. In this paper, we propose an extended access control with uncertain context-awareness. It enables appropriate security policy enforcement even if the contextual constraints specified by the security policy does not match those accompanied by access request query. We extract semantic implications from context tree, and define the argument that can quantitatively measure the semantic difference between two nodes in the context tree. It is used to semantically enforce the security policy, and to prevent the excessive authorization caused by the implication.

  • As the importance and the need for network security is increased, many organization uses the various security systems. They enable to construct the consistent integrated security environment by sharing the vulnerable information among firewall, intrusion detection system, and vulnerable scanner. And Policy-based network provides a means by which the management process can be simplified and largely automated. In this article we build a foundation of policy-based network modeling environment. The procedure and structure for policy rule induction from vulnerabilities stored in SVDB (Simulation based Vulnerability Data Based) is conducted. It also transforms the policy rules into PCIM (Policy Core Information Model).

  • An enlarging a scale of logical domain organizing Internet, security policy association among entities become complicated. Establishment and control of security policies for each system is a hard problem to solve because of the environment and composite factors with variable properties. In this paper, to solve this actual problems, we orgainze a hierarchical structure of network and than we design the structure of database to apply security policies for secure communication. This enables efficient management of security data and association of security policy by using designed data structure between different domain in hierarchical structure with make secure communication possible.

  • Even though the rapid development of IT technique accelerates informationization for quality improvement of university, security measures are needed for security problems because the major information related to academic affairs is centered on academic database. In this paper, we research and analyze the actual condition of database security of domestic university to develop process model that can consistently keep and improve the security of academic database which is the most important data in university. Also, considering the situation that a lot of universities can't use database security product, we propose details that implement the most important key part like confidentiality with the function that DBMS provides only.
