As the radius of curvature of curved optical waveguide gets smaller, the loss increases at the junction of linear-curved waveguide by the cross sectional mode mismatch. The concept of lateral offset has been used widely to minimize it, and simple method of maximum matching has been efficient for most cases of silica waveguide with low optical confinement and large radius of curvature. Here, we analyzed that the propagation mode characteristics of the lateral offset and propagation mode characteristics of general case with effective index method and Airy function solution. As the normalized frequency varies, mode characteristics changes near the boundary of 1/V=0.7 and the simple matching of gaussian profile might give -35% of error at most. We proposed improved method with a new correction factor to improve the mode mismatch problem of conventional methods for general cases, and showed the convenience and feasibility of this method for the calculation of the lateral offset.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate vital pulp tissue removal from different endodontic instrumentation systems from root canal apical third in vivo. Materials and Methods: Thirty mandibular molars were selected and randomly divided into 2 test groups and one control group. Inclusion criteria were a positive response to cold sensibility test, curvature angle between 10 and 20 degrees, and curvature radius lower than 10 mm. Root canals prepared with Hero 642 system (size 45/0.02) (n = 10) and Reciproc R40 (size 40/0.06) (n = 10) and control (n = 10) without instrumentation. Canals were irrigated only with saline solution during root canal preparation. The apical third was evaluated considering the touched/untouched perimeter and area to evaluate the efficacy of root canal wall debridement. Statistical analysis used t-test for comparisons. Results: Untouched root canal at cross-section perimeter, the Hero 642 system showed 41.44% ± 5.62% and Reciproc R40 58.67% ± 12.39% without contact with instruments. Regarding the untouched area, Hero 642 system showed 22.78% ± 6.42% and Reciproc R40 34.35% ± 8.52%. Neither instrument achieved complete cross-sectional root canal debridement. Hero 642 system rotary taper 0.02 instruments achieved significant greater wall contact perimeter and area compared to reciprocate the Reciproc R40 taper 0.06 instrument. Conclusions: Hero 642 achieved higher wall contact perimeter and area but, regardless of instrument size and taper, vital pulp during in vivo instrumentation is not entirely removed.

Purpose: This study used cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) to characterize mandibular molar root and canal morphology and its variability in Belgian and Chilean population samples. Materials and Methods: We analyzed the CBCT images of 515 mandibular molars (257 from Belgium and 258 from Chile). Molars meeting the inclusion criteria were analyzed to determine (1) the number of roots; (2) the root canal configuration; (3) the presence of a curved canal in the cross-sectional image of the distal root in the mandibular first molar and (4) the presence of a C-shaped canal in the second mandibular molar. A descriptive analysis was performed. The association between national origin and the presence of a curved or C-shaped canal was evaluated using the chi-squared test. Results: The most common configurations in the mesial root of both molars were type V and type III. In the distal root, type I canal configuration was the most common. Curvature in the cross-sectional image was found in 25% of the distal canals of the mandibular first molars in the Belgian population, compared to 11% in the Chilean population. The prevalence of C-shaped canals was 10% or less in both populations. Conclusion: In cases of unclear or complex root and canal morphology in the mandibular molars, CBCT imaging might assist endodontic specialists in making an accurate diagnosis and in treatment planning.
The aim of this study was to analyze the features of bodice patterns modeled using a dress form that represents Korean female fashion models' body features. A controlled experiment was carried out using an existing dress form that has been frequently used in South Korea. The purpose of the study was to suggest notable findings derived from understanding the development of bodice patterns for Korean female fashion models. The comparison of features of bodice patterns from the developed and existing dress forms was carried out with consideration of the upper body features of the developed dress form, such as body angles and body cross-sectional shapes. The following results were derived from the investigations. (1) The angles of the upper and lower breast cups of the developed dress form differed to those of the existing dress form, showing a 5.0cm smaller front shoulder dart and a 3.5 larger ㎝ ㎝ front waist dart within the bodice patterns. (2) The body angle features of the developed dress form included a straighter neck and shoulder blade and more concave center back than the existing dress form, with a 2.0 reduced back neck height and a 4.8 larger back waist dart for ㎝ ㎝ the bodice back panel. The more realistic body angles of the developed dress form anticipate the improvement of garment pattern-making. (3) The altered shoulder angles resulted in an increased size of the back shoulder dart and a decreased size of the front shoulder height within the bodice patterns. (4) The increased rate of curvature of cross-sectional shapes on the bust and waist circumferences of the developed dress form resulted in an increase in the sizes of the front and back waist darts.
In this study, scaled model tests were performed to investigate the stability of three parallel tunnels. Seven types of test models which had respectively different pillar widths, tunnel sectional shapes, support conditions and ground conditions were experimented, where crack initiating pressures and deformation behaviors around tunnels were investigated. In order to evaluate the effect of pillar widths on stability, various models were experimented. As results, the models with shallower pillar widths proved to be unstable because of lower crack initiating pressures and more tunnel convergences than the models with thicker pillar widths. In order to find the effect of tunnel sectional shape on stability, the models with arched, semi-arched and rectangular tunnels were experimented. Among them rectangular tunnel model was the most unstable, where the arched tunnel model with small radius of roof curvature was more stable than semi-arched one. The model with rockbolt showed higher crack initiating pressure and less roof lowering than the unsupported model. The deformation behaviors of tunnels in the anisotropic ground model were quite different from those in the isotropic ground model. Futhermore, the results of FLAC analysis were qualitatively coincident with the experimental results.
Conventional RC beams for crossing small and medium-sized rivers do not have a cross-sectional area, so the floating debris is accumulated and disasters such as damage to bridges occur. To improve this, the PSC method was invented. However, this also had problems such as transverse curvature, increase in dead weight due to cross-sectional shape, and negative moment generated during serialization, so it was necessary to develop a new type of girder. Therefore, it was intended to propose a LIT(Leton Interaction Thrust) girder bridge that is safer and has better performance than the conventional PSC girder with improved section efficiency. Unlike existing girder bridges, the LIT girder has the feature that the change in the strands of the entire girder occurs only in the vertical direction when the first tension is applied because the tendon arrangement is symmetrical by applying the raised portion. In addition, slab continuation generates a secondary moment that is advantageous to the continuous point, effectively controlling the negative moment and preventing the corrosion of the tendon. The dimensions of the cross section were determined, and the arrangement of the strands was designed to conduct structural analysis and detailed analysis. As a result of the structural analysis, the stress of the girder showed results within the allowable compressive stress, and the deflection showed the result within the allowable deflection. showed results. In addition, a detailed analysis was performed to examine the stress distribution around the girder body and the anchorage area and the stress distribution of the embossed portion, and as a result, the stress of the girder body due to the tension force showed a stable level.
This paper is a part of a research aimed at the verification of basic design rules of high-strength concrete columns. A total of 32 column specimens were tested to investigate structural behavior and strength of eccentrically loaded reinforced concrete tied columns. Main variables included in this test program were concrete compressive strength. steel amount, eccentricity, and slenderness ratio. The concrete compressive strength varied from 356 kg/$cm^2$ to 951 kg/$cm^2$ and the longitudinal steel ratios were between 1.13 % and 5.51 %. Test results of column sectional strength are compared with the results of analyses by ACI rectangular stress block, trapezoidal stress block, and modified rectangular stress block. Axial force-moment-curvature analysis is also performed for predicting axial load-moment strength and compared with the test results. The ACI rectangular stress block provides over-estimated column strengths for the lightly reinforced high strength column specimens. The calculated strengths by moment-curvature analyses are highly affected by $k_3$ values of the concrete stress-strain curve. Observed failure mode. concrete ultimate strain, and stress block parameters are discussed.

The rolled carbon steel plate has anisotropic property in Z-direction(thickness direction). This is induced by cooling rate difference of Z-direction and sulfur which make non-metallic inclusion(MnS) at center line of thickness direction. Z-directional mechanical properties of normal steel plate are not generally specified and it is defined for Z-Quality steel only through tensile test in Z-direction. If Z-quality steel is not applied for cruciform joint, the lamella tearing will be occurred by tensile stress after welding & during operation of the structure. In this research, one equation estimating Z-directional(orthogonal to plate) stress was developed to prevent lamella tearing by welding. This equation deals with plate thickness & joint configuration(eccentricity, angle and curvature). Analyses were done by strain boundary method using sectional FE modeling and FE 3D models are also used for some cases. Designers can predict the possibility of lamella tearing by adequately applying the result and can appropriately minimize the application of Z-quality steel by revising welding design to some extent.

The development of pre-set wavelength G$\ddot{o}$rtler vortices are studied in the boundary-layer flows on concave surfaces of 1.0 and 2.0 m radius of curvature. The wavelengths of the vortices were pre-set by thin wires of 0.2 mm diameter placed 10 mm upstream and perpendicular to the concave surface leading edge. Velocity contours were obtained from velocity measurements using a single hot-wire anemometer probe. The most amplified or dominant wavelength is found to be 15 mm for free-stream velocity of 2.1 m/s and 3.0 m/s on the concave surface of R = 1 m and 2 m, respectively. The velocity contours in the cross-sectional planes at several streamwise locations show the growth and breakdown of the vortices. Three different regions can be identified based on the growth rate of the vortices. The occurrence of a secondary instability mode is also shown in the form of mushroom-like structures as a consequence of the non-linear growth of the G$\ddot{o}$rtler vortices. By pre-setting the vortex wavelength to be much larger and much smaller than the most amplified one, the splitting and merging of G$\ddot{o}$rtler vortices can be respectively observed.
To overcome the drawback of currently available curved beam theories having non-symmetric thin-walled cross sections, a curved beam theory based on centroid-shear center formulation is presented for the spatially coupled free vibration and elastic analysis. For this, the displacement field is expressed by introducing displacement parameters defined at the centroid and shear center axes, respectively. Next the elastic strain and kinetic energies considering the thickness-curvature effect and the rotary inertia of curved beam are rigorously derived by degenerating the energies of the elastic continuum to those of curved beam. And then the equilibrium equations and the boundary conditions are consistently derived for curved beams having non-symmetric thin-walled cross section. It is emphasized that for curved beams with L- or T-shaped sections, this thin-walled curved beam theory can be easily reduced to the solid beam theory by simply putting the sectional properties associated with warping to zero. In order to illustrate the validity and the accuracy of this study, FE solutions using the Hermitian curved beam elements are presented and compared with the results by previous research and ABAQUS's shell elements.
