초.중.고 학생의 과학 및 과학교과서에 대한 태도 조사 연구 (Surevey on the Attitudes toward Science and Science Courses of Primary and Secondary Students)

  • A survey on the attitudes toward science and science courses was conducted with three hundred students of primary and secondary schools. The instrument used for measuring attitudes was TOSRA(Fraser, 1981). The subjects was sampled by stratified cluster sampling method. The major findings of this study are as follows. 1. The attitude scores has no significant differences among the students of large city, mid-sized city and rural areas. 2. The attitude scores of male and female students has ststistically significant difference. 3. Primary students has significantly higher attitude scores than secondary students. 4. In case of senior high schools, science-major students has significantly higher attitude scores than humanity-major students.

부산시 황령산의 경관구조와 생태적 복원 (Landscape Structure and Ecological Restoration of Mt. Hwangryung in Pusan, korea)

  • An attempt to clarify the landscape structure of urban areas was carried out on Mt. Hwangryung located in the center of Pusan, southern Korea. By means of aerial photographs and field survey, a vegetation map including land-use pattern was made. Landscape structure was described by analyzing the vegetation map. Landscape element types were classified into secondary forest, introduced plantation, and other elements including urbanized area. almus firma and Pinus thunbergii communities, introduced plantation elements, formed matrix and some secondary forest elements and the other artificial plantations of small scale tended to distribute as small patches in such matrix. The number of patches per unit area in secondary forest elements was more than that in introduced plantation element. The result on patech size was vice versa. As the results of landscape ecological analyses, it was estimated that differentiation of patches recognized in community level would be related to artificial interference and those in sub-communities levels to natural process such as progression of succession. On the other hand, restoration plans in viewpoints of restoration and landscape ecology were suggested to improve ecological quality of Mt. hwangryung.

한국여성의 자궁암 검사 이용행위와 관련된 요인에 대한 분석연구 (Secondary Prevention Health Behavior on Cervical Cancer in Korea)

  • The purpose of this explanatory study was to provide baseline information on the secondary prevention health behavior of cervical cancer in Korea which was related to the utilization of the Papanicolaou (Pap) smear screening test. The secondary data from the 1992 Korean Health Behavior Survey was used for analysis in order to determine sociodemographic profiles and the predictor variables. The sample analyzed for this study contained 1,489 Korean women residing in Korea aged 20-59 selected by multi-stage sampling method from the 1990 Korean census. Univariate, bivariate, and logistic regression analysis were performed to produce the findings of this study. Only 27.9% of the study sample had had a Pap test in 1992. It was found that the relative sociodemographic profiles of the Pap test between users and non-users were distinctive. The predictors variables were age, marital status, educational status, usual source of care, perceived household economic status, health check-up, and presence of chronic diseases

Secondary Teachers' Views about Proof and Judgements on Mathematical Arguments

  • Despite its recognition in the field of mathematics education and mathematics, students' understanding about proof and performance on proof tasks have been far from promising. Research has documented that teachers tend to accept empirical arguments as proofs. In this study, an online survey was administered to examine how Korean secondary mathematic teachers make judgements on mathematical arguments varied along representations. The results indicate that, when asked to judge how convincing to their students the given arguments would be, the teachers tended to consider how likely students understand the given arguments and this surfaces as a controversial matter with the algebraic argument being both most and least convincing for their students. The teachers' judgements on the algebraic argument were shown to have statistically significant difference with respect to convincingness to them, convincingness to their students, and validity as mathematical proof.

Availability and Utilizations of Library Information Resources in Secondary Schools by Special Patrons

  • This study adopted the descriptive survey research method. The population of this study comprised of the hearing impaired students in selected government secondary schools in Rivers state. The population of hearing impaired students in Rivers State is 257. A simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample size of 159. A self-developed instrument titled "Availability and Utilization of Library Information Resources Questionnaire (AULIRQ)" was utilized for data collection. 153 responses were collated, indicating a 96.2% response rate. The data collected was arranged and analyzed using frequency count, percentages, and mean and standard deviation. Finding reveals that information resources in the libraries understudied were inadequate and under-utilized. Also, it was established that among other barriers, under-funding is a major barrier to making information resources available for the physically challenged. It was recommended that schools offering special education for the hearing impaired should pace up in their developmental gap by providing such resources and ensure adequate funding by all stakeholders.

The DESI peculiar velocity survey

  • One of the most promising secondary target programmes of DESI is the peculiar velocity survey, which will notably improve the measurements of cosmology parameters in the low-redshift universe. We use the Fundamental plane and Tully-Fisher relation as distance indicators to calculate peculiar velocities for DESI. This required additional observations to obtain spectra with sufficient quality to measure the velocity dispersions in the case of the fundamental plane, and to get off-centre redshift measurements to reconstruct the rotation curve in the case of the Tully-Fisher relation. However, we devised a clever strategy for suitable target galaxies, that takes advantage of the spare fibres of DESI to gather the required additional data without causing conflicts with the main survey programmes. We provide a brief overview of the preliminary results and success rate based on the first measurements obtained during survey validation as well as an outlook on expected improvements in the fσ8 measurements once the survey has been completed.

SURVEY OF COMPOSITE RESTORATIONS IN KOREA

  • A survey has been made of the reasons for the replacement of 318 resin restorations in selected dental practices in Korea. Secondary caries and discoloarations were the main reason for replacement of composite restorations, followed by discoloration, fracture of restoration, loss of anatomic form and pain sensitivity. The estimated 50% survival time for the surveyed restorations was 3.3 years.

초.중등학교의 세포, 유전 영역에서 지도해야 할 개념에 대한 중등 생물 교사의 인식 조사 (A Study on the Recognition about Cell and Gene Domain to be Taught in Elementary, Secondary Schools by Secondary Biology Teacher)

  • 이 연구는 초 중 고등학교에서 지도해야 할 세포, 유전 영역에 대한 필수, 선택 및 비필수 개념에 대해 중등 생물 교사들의 인식을 알아보고자 하였다. 본 연구에 선정된 개념은 일반 생물학과 고등학교 생물 과정에 필요한 기본개념 연구와 BSCS의 통합 권고안을 참고하여 선정한 후 생물학 전공 교수 5명의 자문을 구하여 최종 17개의 세포 영역 개념과 23개의 유전 영역의 개념을 선정하여 설문지를 제작하였다. 설문은 전국의 중등 생물 교사 146명의 응답을 바탕으로 초등학교, 중학교, 고등학교에서 지도해야할 필수, 선택, 비필수 생물 개념을 선정하였다. 연구 결과는 세포, 유전 영역에서 중등 생물 교사들은 학교급이 올라갈수록 지도해야 할 필수 개념들이 많아져야 한다고 인식하고 있었다. 과학과 교육과정 그리고 BSCS 권고안에서 제시한 개념보다 더 많은 개념을 가르쳐야 한다고 중등 생물 교사들은 인식하고 있었다.

Computer Literacy Skills as a Determinant of Electronic Reference Sources Utilization among Selected Secondary School Students in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government, Ogun State, Nigeria

  • The study investigated computer literacy skills as a determinant of electronic reference sources utilization among selected secondary school students in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government, Ogun State, Nigeria. Four specific objectives with conforming research questions guided the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprises of SSS3 students of the three selected Community Secondary Schools in Ado Odo Ota. A sample size of 150 was used for the study. The instrument for data collection was a self-developed structured questionnaire. Data collected was analyzed using frequency and percentages. Findings of the study revealed that majority of secondary school students were not aware of the availability of electronic reference sources. It also revealed that the level of their computer literacy skills was below average. Majority of them have never used computer before and the few of them that have used computer before used it in their homes, their friend's homes or in the cyber café. It was found that lack of formal training on the use of electronic reference sources, lack of access to computer, lack of awareness of availability of electronic reference sources, lack of funds for internet subscriptions, over dependency on printed reference sources and lack of motivation to use electronic reference sources were the major hindrances to the use of electronic reference sources among secondary school students. It was recommended that the school librarians and teachers should play a role in creating awareness among secondary school students about the availability of online/ electronic reference sources among others.

응급실 간호사의 전문직 삶의 질: 공감만족, 소진, 이차 외상성 스트레스 (Emergency Nurses' Professional Quality of Life: Compassion Satisfaction, Burnout, and Secondary Traumatic Stress)

  • Purpose: Professional quality of life is the quality one feels in relation to their work as a helper. The purpose of this study was to describe professional quality of life among emergency nurses. Methods: A total of 15 emergency rooms were selected in three cities. Among 263 nurses working at these emergency rooms, 178 nurses consented to participate in this cross-sectional survey. Professional Quality of Life (ProQOL) Scale version 5 was used to measure compassion satisfaction, burnout and secondary traumatic stress. Cluster analysis was used to classify nurses according to professional quality of life. Results: The mean scores (SD) for compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress were 32.12 (5.45), 28.27 (4.28), and 28.20 (5.07), respectively. The result of cluster analysis according to standardized score of compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress yielded three clusters. Over 50% of participants showed low professional quality of life. Nurses who were included in a cluster representing low professional quality of life were younger, had shorter periods of nursing experience, and perceivedlower social support than other cluster. Conclusion: Education or support programs for emergency nurses are needed to enhance their professional quality of life.
