Behavior of Woven-glass/Epoxy Composites after Impact Loading (접촉하중형태에 따른 복합재의 거동변화)

  • External low-velocity impact loadings onto the composites cause reduction of stiffness and/or strength. The reductions indicate that internal(external) damages were developed within the composites. These damages could be matrix cracking, fiber/matrix debonding, or delamination between layers. In previous studies, damage evaluation have been done by applying secondary mechanical loading such as buckle-driven compressive, or fatigue, or flexural loadings. An evaluation method by applying indentation loadings on the composites was proposed. The load-displacement curves obtained from the indentation testing provided the extent of damages within the composites due to impact loadings.

  • Equations of motion of thin-walled composite H-type cross-section beams exposed to concentrated harmonic and non-harmonic time-dependent external excitations, incorporating a number of nonclassical effects of transverse shear, primary and secondary warping, and anisotropy of constituent materials are derived. The forced vibration response characteristics of a composite H-type cross-section beam exhibiting the circumferentially asymmetric stiffness(CAS) configuration are exploited in connection with the structural bending-torsion coupling resulting from directional properties of fiber reinforced composite materials.

  • Chondrolysis of the femoral head s characterized by progressive destruction of the articular cartilage, resulting secondary joint space narrowing and stiffness. It is usually regarded as an idiopathic disease, but it can be produced by sequelae of an infection, trauma, or prolonged immobilization. We report a case of chondrolysis of femoral head in 45-year-old male, caused by infection and treated by arthroscopic management.

Reliability Evaluation of Air Spring for Railway Vehicle (철도차량용 공기스프링 실차시험 및 신뢰성 평가)

  • Air spring system was widely accepted for railway vehicle secondary suspension to reduce and absorb the vibration and noise. The low natural frequency ensures a comfortable ride and an invariably good stiffness. In this paper, the characteristics and durability test was conducted in laboratory by using servo-hydraulic fatigue testing system to reliability evaluation of air spring for electric railway vehicle. The experimental results show that the characteristics and durability of domestically developed productions are shown in good results. And to guarantee the adaption of air spring, the ride comfort and air pressure variation were measured in train test on subway line.

  • The suspension system of railway rolling-stock is composed of the primary and secondary suspension elements. Recently, a conical rubber spring is widely used as the primary suspension element due to the merits of the three directional stiffness characteristics. So, understanding the properties and characteristics of the conical rubber spring is very important from the viewpoint of vehicle stability and efficient maintenance. Thus, this study is started to acquire the basic data for maintaining spring elements efficiently. For this, we tested the conical rubber spring samples including a new and old specimen with aging. As a test result, we have obtained the property characteristics of the aged spring comparing with the new product and we describe the results.

Performance Improvement on Plate Girder Bridges Through Continuous Welded Rail (판형교 장대화에 따른 성능 개선)

  • The challenging aspect of CWR (continuous welded rail) is the additional axial forces in rails, mainly due to the thermal expansion of steel plate girder and rail itself. It has been found that these axial forces are proportional to girder length, total bridge length and bolt tightening forces. Also these forces are dependent to girder support conditions, types of bearings and their arrangements. With CWR, the authors' previous studies show that performance improvements like noise reduce, fatigue resistances and bearing durability increment can be expected. In addition to these effects, secondary effects due to the semi integral behavior between rail and bridge girder also can be expected. Special bearings which can reduce the absolute maximum axial forces have been developed, and applied to real 100m span bridge. The performance improvements were verified through site measurements and numerical analysis. The purpose of this study is to confirm the expected performance improvement aspects of steel plate girder bridges with CWR. To verify these aspects, girder stiffness changes, rail axial force changes, girder displacements and noise level were thoroughly measured and compared.

  • Tube hydroforming provides a number of advantages over conventional stamping process, including fewer secondary operation, weight reduction, assembly simplification, adaptability to forming of complex structural components and improved structural strength and stiffness. In this study, the effect of the heat treatment on the hydro-formability has been investigated. By using the mild steel tube bulging test is performed at various heat treatment conditions to evaluate the hydro-formability.

  • The B value on the saturated soil is commonly known as the amount of 1. Usually this concept is consistent with the condition that effective stress is equal to zero, but it was reported in some literatures that the B value was less than 1 in spite of saturated condition in the test of very stiff material such as rock and quasi-stiff material on which the stiffness can be mobilized because of effective stress not equal to zero. In this study the B value was measured on various effective stress conditions on normally consolidated clay. The test results in the B value less than 1 in spite of perfect saturation. The measured excessive pore water pressure was not only smaller than the change of the total stress, but also the function of time on clay.

  • The steam generator, one of the major components in the reactor coolant system, plays an important role in transferring the thermal energy made in the reactor during normal operation to the secondary side and producing steam to drive turbine. A hydraulic snubber system is used in order to protect the steam generator under the dynamic loading condition and to absorb the thermal expansion transmitted by the reactor coolant piping due to high temperature and pressure during normal operation. In this study, the model for a geometrical linkage system is presented to analyze the snubber stroke of the steam generator and the parameters in the snubber stroke analysis are investigated. A method to analyze lever ratio of the linkage system which is required in the process of determining the snubber stiffness value is also presented. To discuss the validation of the suggested analysis, the analysis results are compared with the measured data during the hot functional test for the standardized 1000 Mwe pressurized water reactor plant under the construction.
