The wastewater treatment by photocatalyst decomposes pollutants directly in water, and it is easy to decompose indecomposable organics and inorganic. and Especially, it has an advantage that there is no secondary production of pollutants. However, there will be many problems which are generated depending on the type of photocatalyst. The type of rotating photocatalyst minimizes previous problems, and advanced oxidation processes is possible by the application of rotating disc method. The consideration of the characteristics about various designs and operation factors is needed for the application of rotating photocatalyst system. In this study, rotating photocatalyst was manufactured for rotating disc method by fixing of $TiO_2$. The operation factors were derived for the wastewater treatment by the reaction of rotating photocatalyst. The contained quantity of $TiO_2$ was limited about 70%. The more the contained quantity of $TiO_2$ was increased, the more the treatment rate was continually increased. The optimum rotating photocatalyst was R4, and the contained quantity of $TiO_2$ was 36.8%. The more the exposed amount of UV is increased, the more the decomposition effect of TCODcr was continually increased. However, the adequate strength of light source must be determined by the consideration of economical efficiency. The more the speed of rotating photocatalyst is increased, the more treatment efficiency was increased. When UV lamp was not submerged in reactor, the wastewater treatment was efficient in the order of the depth of water 50%, 30%, 10%, 70%, 100%. This study is a basic research for the development of a system which treats organics in solar light.
Oxygen is the final acceptor of electron transport from fat and carbohydrate oxidation, which is the rate-limiting factor for cellular ATP production. Under altitude hypoxia condition, energy reliance on anaerobic glycolysis increases to compensate for the shortfall caused by reduced fatty acid oxidation [1]. Therefore, training at altitude is expected to strongly influence the human metabolic system, and has the potential to be designed as a non-pharmacological or recreational intervention regimen for correcting diabetes or related metabolic problems. However, most people cannot accommodate high altitude exposure above 4500 M due to acute mountain sickness (AMS) and insulin resistance corresponding to a increased levels of the stress hormones cortisol and catecholamine [2]. Thus, less stringent conditions were evaluated to determine whether glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity could be improved by moderate altitude exposure (below 4000 M). In 2003, we and another group in Austria reported that short-term moderate altitude exposure plus endurance-related physical activity significantly improves glucose tolerance (not fasting glucose) in humans [3,4], which is associated with the improvement in the whole-body insulin sensitivity [5]. With daily hiking at an altitude of approximately 4000 M, glucose tolerance can still be improved but fasting glucose was slightly elevated. Individuals vary widely in their response to altitude challenge. In particular, the improvement in glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity by prolonged altitude hiking activity is not apparent in those individuals with low baseline DHEA-S concentration [6]. In addition, hematopoietic adaptation against altitude hypoxia can also be impaired in individuals with low DHEA-S. In short-lived mammals like rodents, the DHEA-S level is barely detectable since their adrenal cortex does not appear to produce this steroid [7]. In this model, exercise training recovery under prolonged hypoxia exposure (14-15% oxygen, 8 h per day for 6 weeks) can still improve insulin sensitivity, secondary to an effective suppression of adiposity [8]. Genetically obese rats exhibit hyperinsulinemia (sign of insulin resistance) with up-regulated baseline levels of AMP-activated protein kinase and AS160 phosphorylation in skeletal muscle compared to lean rats. After prolonged hypoxia training, this abnormality can be reversed concomitant with an approximately 50% increase in GLUT4 protein expression. Additionally, prolonged moderate hypoxia training results in decreased diffusion distance of muscle fiber (reduced cross-sectional area) without affecting muscle weight. In humans, moderate hypoxia increases postprandial blood distribution towards skeletal muscle during a training recovery. This physiological response plays a role in the redistribution of fuel storage among important energy storage sites and may explain its potent effect on changing body composition. Conclusion: Prolonged moderate altitude hypoxia (rangingfrom 1700 to 2400 M), but not acute high attitude hypoxia (above 4000 M), can effectively improve insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance for humans and antagonizes the obese phenotype in animals with a genetic defect. In humans, the magnitude of the improvementvaries widely and correlates with baseline plasma DHEA-S levels. Compared to training at sea-level, training at altitude effectively decreases fat mass in parallel with increased muscle mass. This change may be associated with increased perfusion of insulin and fuel towards skeletal muscle that favors muscle competing postprandial fuel in circulation against adipose tissues.
Metallic deposits in Korea have a variety of genetic types such as hydrothermal veins, skarns, hydrothermal replacement and alaskite deposits and so on. Geological, mineralogical and geochemical features including host rock, wall-rock alteration, ore and gangue mineralogy, mineral texture and secondary mineralogy related to weathering process control the environmental signatures of mining areas. The environmental signatures of metallic deposits closed from early 1970s to late 1990s in Korea show complicate geochemistry and mineralogy due to step weathering of primary and secondary minerals such as oxidation-precipitation-remobilization. The potentiality of low pH and high heavy metal Concentration s from acid mine drainage is great in base-metal deposits associated with polymetallic mineralization, breccia-pipe type and Cretaceous hydrothermal Au veins with the amount of pyrite whereas skam, hydrothermal replacement, hydrothermal Cu and Au-Ag vein deposits are in low contamination possibility. The geoenvironmental models reflecting the various geologic features closely relate to disuibution of sulfides and carbonates and their ratios and finally effect on characteristics of environmental signatures such as heavy metal species and their concentrations in acid mine drainage.
The use of water by cities is increasing owing to industrialization, the concentration of population, and the enhancement of the standard of living. Accordingly, the amount of waste water is also increasing, and the degree of pollution of the water system is rising. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to remove organisms and suspended particles as well as the products of eutrophication such as nitrates and phosphates. This study developed a high-end treatment engineering solution with maximum efficiency and lower costs by researching and developing a advanced treatment engineering solution with the use of Biosorption. As a result, the study conducted a test with a $50m^3/day$ Pilot Scale Plant by developing treatment engineering so that only the secondary treatment satisfies the standard of water quality and which provided optimal treatment efficiency along with convenient maintenance and management. The removal of organisms, which has to be pursued first for realizing nitrification during the test period, was made in such a way that there would be no oxidation by microorganisms in the reactor while preparing oxygen as an inhibitor for the growth of microorganism in the course of moving toward the primary settling pond. The study introduced microorganisms in the endogeneous respiration stage to perform adhesion, absorption, and filtering by bringing them into contact with the inflowing water with the use of a sludge returning from the secondary settling pond. Also a test was conducted to determine how effective the microorganisms are as an inner source of carbon. The HRT(Hydraulic Retention Time) in the nitrification tank (aerobic tank) could be reduced to two hours or below, and the stable treatment efficiency of the process using the organisms absorbed in the NAR reactor as a source of carbon could be proven. Also, given that the anaerobic condition of the pre-treatment tank becomes basic in the area of phosphate discharge, it was found that there was excellent efficiency for the removal of phosphate when the pre-treatment tank induced the discharge of phosphate and the polishing reactor induced the uptake of phosphate. The removal efficiency was shown to be about 94.4% for $BOD_5$. 90.7% for $COD_{Cr}$ 84.3% for $COD_{Mn}$, 96.0% for SS, 77.3% for TN, and 96.0% for TP.

Standard Zircaloy-4 sheets, charged with 230-250ppm hydrogen by the gas-charging method and homogenized at $400^{\circ}C$ for 72hrs in a vacuum, were corroded in pure water and aqueous LiOH solutions using static autoclaves at $350^{\circ}C$. Their corrosion behaviors were characterized by measuring their weight gains with the corrosion time and observing their microstructures using an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope. The elemental depth profiles for hydrogen and lithium were measured using a secondary ion mass spectrometry(S1MS) to confirm their distributions at the oxidelmetal interface. The normal Zircaloy-4 specimens corroded abruptly and heavily at the concentration of Li ions more than 30ppm in the aqueous solution. This is due to accelerations by the rapid oxidation of many Zr- hydrides formed by the large amount of absorbed hydrogen, resulting from the increased substitution of $Li^{+}$ ions with $Zr^{4+}$-sites in the oxide as the Li ion concentration increased. The specimens that had been charged with amounts of hydrogen greater than its solubility corroded early with a more rapid acceleration than normal specimens, regardless of the corrosion solutions. At longer corrosion times. however, normal specimens showed a rather accelerated corrosion rate compared to the hydrogen-charged specimens. These slower corrosion rates of the hydrogen-charged specimens at the longer corrosion times would be due to the pre-existent Zr-hydride in the matrix, which causes the hydrogen pick- up into the specimen to be depressed, when the oxide with an appropriate thickness formed.

To use as an anode material of lithium secondary battery, graphite-silicon composite powders are prepared by ball-milling with silicon nanoparticles (average diameter 100 nm, 0~50 wt%) and graphite powder (average diameter $15{\mu}m$) and their electrochemical properties are examined. As the silicon content increases, the graphite becomes smaller by the ball-milling and amorphous phase appears whereas the silicon do not suffer the change of nanocrystalline phases and embeds within the amorphous phase of graphite. Cyclic voltammetry at low scan rate reveals that typical oxidation peaks of graphite and silicon appear at 0.2~0.35 and 0.55~0.6 V, respectively, with higher reversibility for repeated cycles. In contrast, the high-scan-rate redox behavior is very irreversible for repeated cycles. High irreversible capacity is exhibited in the initial charging-discharging cycles, but it diminishes as the cycle number increases. The saturated discharge capacity achieves about 485 mAh $g^{-1}$ at 50th cycle for the composite of Si 20 wt%. This is due to the formation of amorphous graphite morphology by the adequate composition (C:Si=8:2 w/w), which efficiently buffers the volume change during alloying/dealloying between silicon and lithium.

In this study, Fenton reaction was studied for the possibility of applying as advanced treatment and its optimal condition for the removal of refractory organics from the dye wastewater. Fenton reaction was applied to remove refractory organics after the bio-treatment (secondary treatment) inside test laboratory and on-site pilot plant. Wastewater from the secondary treatment was used and its $COD_{Mn}$ was measured as 30~50mg/L. After the Fenton reaction, the optimal condition was found as pH 3~3.5, reaction time 2~2.5hr, chemical input ratio of ($FeCl_2$(33%)/$H_2O_2$(35%)) was 3 : 1. When chemical input ratio of ($FeCl_2$(33%)/$H_2O_2$(35%)) was at its optimal, amount of sludge volume ($SV_{2hr}$) was 21~28%. With pilot plant test, removal rate was heavily influenced by the hydraulic retention time(HRT), and optimum value of HRT was 2.0 hr. When pilot plant($2m^3/d$) was placed on-site and operated continuously, it showed steady and fairly good treatment of COD where COD removal rate was 60~70%, treated water showed below 20mg/L.

In this study, removal characteristics of nitrogen oxides $(NO_x)$ from road transport by using peat as the packing media for biodegradation have been investigated in the long term. Physicochemical and biological treatment of peatmixed media eliminates any requirement to use chemical substances and also facilitates the biodegradable actions of microorganism. Safe biodegradation of pollutants, no need to apply additional microbes owing to their active growth, and no generation of secondary pollutants were found in this experiment. It was concluded that average removal efficiencies of nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide $(NO_2)$ were 80% and 97% respectively with respect to the linear velocity 35~40 mm/s and 0.3 ppm ozone concentration in the long period operation. Inflow concentration of nitric oxide over 0.05 ppm was suitable when pretreated with ozone. Non-ozone stage was performed with linear velocity 20~100 mm/s and then the average removal efficiency of nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide were 38% and 94% respectively. Other results showed that the apparent static pressure was raised with increases in applied water content and aerial velocity in mixed media during fan operation.

In-Ga-Zn-O(IGZO) receive great attention as a channel material for thin film transistors(TFTs) as next-generation display panel backplanes due to its superior electrical and physical properties such as a high mobility, low off-current, high sub-threshold slope, flexibility, and optical transparency. For the purpose of fabricating high performance IGZO TFTs, a thermal recovery process above a temperature of $300^{\circ}C$ is required for recovery or rearrangement of the ionic bonding structure. However diffused metal atoms from source/drain(S/D) electrodes increase the channel conductivity through the oxidation of diffused atoms and reduction of $In_2O_3$ during the thermal recovery process. Threshold voltage ($V_{TH}$) shift, one of the electrical instability, restricts actual applications of IGZO TFTs. Therefore, additional investigation of the electrical stability of IGZO TFTs is required. In this paper, we demonstrate the effect of Ti diffusion and modulation of interface traps by carrying out an annealing process on IGZO. In order to investigate the effect of diffused Ti atoms from the S/D electrode, we use secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, HSC chemistry simulation, and electrical measurements. By thermal annealing process, we demonstrate VTH shift as a function of the channel length and the gate stress. Furthermore, we enhance the electrical stability of the IGZO TFTs through a second thermal annealing process performed at temperature $50^{\circ}C$ lower than the first annealing step to diffuse Ti atoms in the lateral direction with minimal effects on the channel conductivity.
In this study, the changes of contents and formats of science textbooks of North Korean sec-oery much and the quality of papers in the textbooks became worse. The changes of ratios of contents were as follows. While the ratio of 'Chemical Change' was increased especially in the contents of 'Acids and Bases' and 'Oxidation and Reduction', the ratios of'EIements and Compounds' and 'Structure of theMaterials' were decreased. The ratio or 'Science-Technology-Society' which hasbeen stressed very much recently in the science education was low in the eighties, and the ratio is even lower in the nincties. 0n the basis of these facts,it can be concluded that the world-wide recent trends in science education hardly affected North Korean science education.
