  • This study analyzed the perceptions of elementary and secondary school teachers regarding the importance of SW/AI education in fostering students' fundamental knowledge and the necessity of integrating SW/AI into education. A total of 830 elementary and secondary school teachers were selected as study subjects using the judgment sampling method. The analysis of survey data revealed that elementary and secondary teachers exhibited a strong awareness of the importance and necessity of SW/AI education, irrespective of school characteristics, region, educational experience, or prior involvement in SW and AI education. Nevertheless, the primary reasons for not implementing SW/AI education were identified as excessive workload and a lack of pedagogical expertise. An analysis of opinions on the essential conditions for implementing SW/AI education revealed that workload reduction, budget support, teacher training to enhance teacher competency, content distribution, expansion of subject-linked courses, and dedicated instructional time allocation were the major influencing factors. These findings indicate a significant demand for comprehensive instructional support and teacher capacity-building programs.

  • This study was conducted to investigate and reveal secondary vocational education institutions' perception changes and suggest the need for supporting the improvement of their perception by analyzing middle school principals' perception changes of the past, the present, and the future about them. For this, middle school principals' perception of the past, the present, and the future about secondary vocational education institutions was investigated and analyzed targeting 214 persons. The results of the study are as follow: First, middle school principals' perception of secondary vocational education institutions has found to make more positive changes in the present than the past and be going to make more positive changes in the future than the present. This can be interpreted that various policies of secondary vocational education institutions have a positive effect on the improvement of their perception since 2005. Second, in the result that analyzed changes in the ranks about middle school principals' perception of the past, the present, and the future about secondary vocational education institutions, the fields of "nurturing students' aptitude and talent early" and "their fast financial independence after graduation" were recognized as positive in the past, the present, and future. As the field of "entering universities in the same field easily" was recognized ranking high in the past and the present, but doing low in the future, it has found that the perception of secondary vocational education institutions is changing according to governmental policies' directions.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of school teachers in science research ethics and perception of science research ethics education. A survey was administered for this study and a total 167 elementary and secondary teachers studying in K University graduate school participated. The survey was organized to examine participants' 1) science research ethics awareness, 2) status of science research ethics education, and 3) needs for science research ethics education, and 4) the perception of the direction of the science research ethics education in school. Each item was responded using either 1 to 5 Likert type scale, multiple choices questionnaires. The results were as follows: both of elementary and secondary school teachers showed above average interest in science research ethics and secondary school teachers showed significantly higher interest than elementary school teachers(p<0.05). In degree of awareness of science research ethics, plagiarism (M=3.98) was the highest, followed by free-riding(M=3.78), the scientist's social responsibility(M=3.71), and forge(M=3.61). In response science research ethics problem occurs in science education activities more than the average(M=3.39). Teacher's response on the teaching of science research ethics ranges from 3.02 to 4.47, but each science research ethics elements was showed a large deviation. Elementary and secondary school teachers responded that science research ethics education needed(M=4.34). Science research ethics education should be included in the school curriculum. Eighty-five percent of the teachers responded that the science research ethics education should be started from elementary school. 'Discussion-type classes with examples' was preferred as an effective teaching. And teachers needed 'instructional materials' and 'teachers training' for science research ethics education.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate Korean secondary school students' perceptions of science and technology related social problems and STS education to ascertain the extent to which the current science programs incorporate STS themes. Students indicated that STS related problems or STS issues were given little attention in their science classes, even though they believed that studying those problems would be important. Results of the study support the contention of need for more attention to the implementation of STS themes into current Korean science education.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore ways to improve developing exam questions for Earth science education by analyzing exam trend of Earth science education in the secondary-school teacher employment test (TET, hereafter). For this purpose, we developed an analysis framework to analyze items of Earth science education in the secondary-school TET, and this analysis framework covers required courses for 'theory of Earth science education' of 'Earth science teaching certificate courses'. The analysis framework consists of big categories, assessment domains, and assessment components. We divided system changes in secondary-school TET into 4 types, and analyzed exams of 2014-2018 school year, which is the existing exam system. According to the results, 22-24 points out of 80 have been allotted to Earth science education. Among assessment domains, Earth science Teaching & Learning domain has taken the highest percentage of scores and item numbers, followed by Earth science inquiry, history & philosophy of science, etc. For each domain, we analyzed exam tendencies in detail. Based the results, we suggested ways to improve developing exam questions for Earth science education in the secondary-school TET, and ways to improve curriculum for Earth science education in the teacher education program.

The forms and types of organization of educational work in secondary schools of Great Britain with the help of modern information technologies are covered. The purposes of education with the help of modern information technologies are singled out. Mental, physical, labor, moral, aesthetic and other types of education, merged in a holistic educational process, provide an opportunity to achieve the main goal - the formation of a comprehensive and harmoniously developed personality. All forms of educational work have their pedagogical significance, and each of them is valuable in the process of education. Democratization and partnership development are the leading principles of education in British schools at the present stage; multiculturalism and student independence. This is the ability to promote the role of different types of education, such as: labor, moral, legal, religious, family, environmental, aesthetic, civic, physical, mental education, which is now possible with the help of current information technology. • In both Korea and the U.S., science education leaders and specialists insist that there is a shortage of curricula to address the new national science education guidelines in support of reform. This paper addresses development of new curricula for science education reform in the hopes of facilitating further development of guideline-based curricula. We examine Korean and U.S. thematic-based (Korean Science Field Trip at Cultural Sites Program and U.S. Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 Education) and project-centered (Korean Teachers for Exciting Science and U.S. Foundational Approaches in Science Teaching Program) programs. Using the criteria of rationale for curriculum, content and scope, processes of implementation, and assessment strategies, we identify the curricular components that are common across four successful secondary science programs and determine which of these components address the national guidelines. Our findings indicate that common components of these four programs meet the expectations of the science guidelines being used to revamp science education in both countries. Therefore, these programs not only engage secondary students and teachers in practicing successful science education, but also lead to successful science education practices that can be incorporated in the future development of curriculum to support secondary science reform.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate secondary school teacher's perceptions and needs of computer and information literacy(CIL) convergence education and to suggest implications for promoting CIL convergence education in the actual school fields. We conducted a survey on teachers perceptions and the needs for CIL convergence education and analysed 227 secondary school teachers responses. As a result, we found that the perception of the necessity of CIL convergence education was very high while understanding level of the CIL convergence education and the actual frequency of teaching experiences were relatively low. In addition, CIL convergence education activities are mainly conducted through Informatics curriculum rather than various subjects. We identified that the main constrains of CIL convergence education were the burden on the progress of subject based curriculum as well as the lacking of teaching and learning equipments including computers. We identified that the needs for empowering teachers professional developments and constructing the physical and institutional environments of school sites were high. In discussion, we suggested the support strategies in terms of teacher professional development, institutional supports, and physical environments.
