With the development of renewable energy sector, the importance of solar energy is continuously increasing. Solar radiation forecasting is essential to accurately solar power generation forecasting. In this paper, we used time series models (ARIMA, ARIMAX, seasonal ARIMA, seasonal ARIMAX, ARIMA GARCH, ARIMAX-GARCH, seasonal ARIMA-GARCH, seasonal ARIMAX-GARCH). We compared the performance of the models using mean absolute error and root mean square error. According to the performance of the models without exogenous variables, the Seasonal ARIMA-GARCH model showed better performance model considering the problem of heteroscedasticity. However, when the exogenous variables were considered, the ARIMAX model showed the best forecasting accuracy.
It is important to improve the forecasting accuracy of one-year-ahead seasonal factors in order to produce seasonally adjusted series of the following year. In this paper, seasonal factors of 8 monthly Korean economic time series are examined and forecast based on the functional principal component regression. One-year-ahead forecasts of seasonal factors from the functional principal component regression are compared with other forecasting methods based on mean absolute error (MAE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). Forecasting seasonal factors via the functional principal component regression performs better than other comparable methods.
In the analysis of time series it is an important issue to determine whether a time series under study is stationary. For the test of the stationary of the time series the Dickey-Fuller (DF) type tests have been mainly used. In this paper, we consider the regular unit root tests and seasonal unit root tests based on the generalized Durbin-Watson (DW) statistics when the errors are independent. The limiting distributions of the proposed DW-type test statistics are the functionals of standard Brownian motions. We also obtain the finite distributions and powers of the DW-type test statistics and compare the performances with the DF-type tests. It is observed that the DW-type test statistics have good behaviors against the DF-type test statistics especially in the nonzero (seasonal) mean model.
It is very difficult to predict time-series data. This is because data obtained from the signal having a non-linear characteristic has an uncertainty. In this paper, By differentiating time-series data is the average of the past data under the premise that change depending on what pattern, and find the soft look of time-series change pattern. This paper also apply the probability variables to generalize time-series data having a specific data according to the reflection ratio of the differentiation. The predicted value is estimated by removing cyclic movement and seasonal fluctuation, and reflect the trend by extracting the irregular fluctuation. Predicted value has demonstrated the superiority of the proposed algorithm and compared with the best results by a simple moving average and the moving average.
In this article, several types of hybrid forecasting models are suggested. In particular, hybrid models using the generalized additive model (GAM) are newly suggested as an alternative to those using neural networks (NN). The prediction performances of various hybrid and non-hybrid models are evaluated using simulated time series data. Five different types of seasonal time series data related to an additive or multiplicative trend are generated over different levels of noise, and applied to the forecasting evaluation. For the simulated data with only seasonality, the autoregressive (AR) model and the hybrid AR-AR model performed equivalently very well. On the other hand, if the time series data employed a trend, the SARIMA model and some hybrid SARIMA models equivalently outperformed the others. In the comparison of GAMs and NNs, regarding the seasonal additive trend data, the SARIMA-GAM evenly performed well across the full range of noise variation, whereas the SARIMA-NN showed good performance only when the noise level was trivial.
An accurate prediction of electricity supply and demand is important for daily life, industrial activities, and national management. In this paper electricity sales is predicted by time series modelling. Real data analysis shows the transfer function model with cooling and heating days as an input time series and a pulse function as an intervention variable outperforms other time series models for the root mean square error and the mean absolute percentage error.

This study analyzed the impact of greenhouse cultivation area and groundwater level changes due to the water curtain cultivation in the greenhouse complexes. The groundwater observation data in the Miryang study area were used and classified into greenhouse and field cultivation areas to compare the groundwater impact of water curtain cultivation in the greenhouse complex. We identified the characteristics of the groundwater time series data by the terrain of the study area and selected the optimal model through time series analysis. We analyzed the time series data for each terrain's two representative groundwater observation wells. The Seasonal ARIMA model was chosen as the optimal model for riverside well, and for plain and mountain well, the ARIMA model and Seasonal ARIMA model were selected as the optimal model. A suitable prediction model is not limited to one model due to a change in a groundwater level fluctuation pattern caused by a surrounding environment change but may change over time. Therefore, it is necessary to periodically check and revise the optimal model rather than continuously applying one selected ARIMA model. Groundwater forecasting results through time series analysis can be used for sustainable groundwater resource management.
Objective: This paper describes changes in the characteristics of patients seeking orthodontic treatment over the past decade and the treatment they received, to identify any seasonal variations or trends. Methods: This single-center retrospective cohort study included all patients who presented to Seoul National University Dental Hospital for orthodontic diagnosis and treatment between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2015. The study analyzed a set of heterogeneous variables grouped into the following categories: demographic (age, gender, and address), clinical (Angle Classification, anomaly, mode of orthodontic treatment, removable appliances for Phase 1 treatment, fixed appliances for Phase 2 treatment, orthognathic surgery, extraction, mini-plate, mini-implant, and patient transfer) and time-related variables (date of first visit and orthodontic treatment time). Time series analysis was applied to each variable. Results: The sample included 14,510 patients with a median age of 19.5 years. The number of patients and their ages demonstrated a clear seasonal variation, which peaked in the summer and winter. Increasing trends were observed for the proportion of male patients, use of non-extraction treatment modality, use of ceramic brackets, patients from provinces outside the Seoul region at large, patients transferred from private practitioners, and patients who underwent orthognathic surgery performed by university surgeons. Decreasing trends included the use of metal brackets and orthodontic treatment time. Conclusions: Time series analysis revealed a seasonal variation in some characteristics, and several variables showed changing trends over the past decade.

We propose in this article a procedure for testing unit and fractional orders of integration, with the roots simultaneously occurring in the trend, the seasonal and the cyclical component of the time series. The tests have standard null and local limit distributions. However, finite sample critical values are computed, and several Monte Carlo experiments conducted across the paper show that the rejection frequencies against unit (and fractional) orders of integration are relatively high in all cases. The tests are applied to the UK consumption and income series, the results showing the importance of the roots corresponding to the trend and the seasonal components and, though the unit roots are found to be fairly suitable models, we show that fractional processes (including one for the cyclical component) may also be plausible alternatives in some cases.

In this paper, we investigated the use of seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) time series models for fault detection in semiconductor etch equipment data. The derivative dynamic time warping algorithm was employed for the synchronization of data. The models were generated using a set of data from healthy runs, and the established models were compared with the experimental runs to find the faulty runs. It has been shown that the SARIMA modeling for this data can detect faults in the etch tool data from the semiconductor industry with an accuracy of 80% and 90% using the parameter-wise error computation and the step-wise error computation, respectively. We found that SARIMA is useful to detect incipient faults in semiconductor fabrication.
