  • In this paper, we propose a subspace search-based detector (SSD) with low-complexity to achieve near optimal performance for multiple-input multiple-output systems. As an effective solution to reduce the prohibitive computational complexity of the optimal maximum likelihood detector, a partial candidate symbol vector is generated through a partitioned search space but not the entire search space. In addition, based on a partial candidate symbol vector, an ensemble candidate symbol vector generation considering the whole search space is introduced to produce a near optimal solution. As a result, the proposed SSD achieves near-maximum-likelihood performance while having a significantly reduced computational complexity.

  • This paper presents a scheduling method that uses Petri net modeling and heuristic search to handle the tool setup. In manufacturing systems, a tool is attached to a particular machine to process a particular operation. The activity to attach a tool to a particular machine and detach the tool from the machine requires time. The processing time of operations varies according to the attached tool and the machine used. The method proposed in this paper uses Petri net to model these characteristics and applies a search algorithm to the reachability graph of the Petri net model to generate an optimal or near-optimal schedule. New heuristic functions are developed for efficient search. The experimental results that show the effectiveness of the proposed method are presented.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient search algorithm for finding an optimal schedule to minimize makespan, while avoiding deadlock situation in Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) with finite capacity, in which each job needs to be processed in several job stages for completion. The proposed algorithm uses a modeling and control method based on Petri-net. Especially, we improve the efficiency of the search algorithm by using a priority rule and an efficient bounding function during the search procedure. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated through a numerical experiment, showing that it holds considerable promise for providing an optimal solution efficiently comparing to past work.

  • Sorting time is one of the most important issues for auto IC test handling systems. In actual system, because of too much path, reducing the computing time for finding a sorting path is the key way to enhancing the system performance. The exhaustive path search technique can not be used for real systems. This paper proposes heuristic sorting algorithm to find the minimal sorting time. The suggested algorithm is basically based on the best-first search technique and multi-level search technique. The results are close to the optimal solutions and computing time is greately reduced also. Therefore the proposed algorthm can be effectively used for real-time sorting process in auto IC test handling systems.

  • This study is concerned with the identification of fuzzy models. To address the optimization of fuzzy model, we proposed an improved space search evolutionary algorithm (ISSA) which is realized with the combination of space search algorithm and Gaussian mutation. The proposed ISSA is exploited here as the optimization vehicle for the design of fuzzy models. Considering the design of fuzzy models, we developed a hybrid identification method using information granulation and the ISSA. Information granules are treated as collections of objects (e.g. data) brought together by the criteria of proximity, similarity, or functionality. The overall hybrid identification comes in the form of two optimization mechanisms: structure identification and parameter identification. The structure identification is supported by the ISSA and C-Means while the parameter estimation is realized via the ISSA and weighted least square error method. A suite of comparative studies show that the proposed model leads to better performance in comparison with some existing models.

  • In spite of the rapid growth of mobile multimedia contents market, most of the customers experience inconvenience, lengthy search processes and frustration in searching for the specific multimedia contents they want. These difficulties are attributable to the current mobile Internet service method based on inefficient sequential search. To overcome these difficulties, this paper proposes a MOBIIe COntents Recommender System for Movie(MOBICORS-Movie), which is designed to reduce customers' search efforts in finding desired movies on the mobile Internet. MOBICORS-Movie consists of three agents: CF(Collaborative Filtering), CBIR(Content-Based Information Retrieval) and RF(Relevance Feedback). These agents collaborate each other to support a customer in finding a desired movie by generating personalized recommendations of movies. To verify the performance of MOBICORS-Movie, the simulation-based experiments were conducted. The results from this experiments show that MOBICORS-Movie significantly reduces the customer's search effort and can be a realistic solution for movie recommendation in the mobile Internet environment.

  • This paper discusses the basic concept of artificial intelligence(AI) and expert system and a particular technique(fuzzy logic) applied to expert systems. It examines expert system as search intermediaries during the past few years, particularly in terms of the following functions: 1) handling certain classes of questions on a particular database, 2) assisting in decision making for selecting databases or search terms, and 3) offering advice while keeping the end-user in the control of the searching process. The limitations and difficulties involved in developing such expert systems are also presented.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of the PCM cell search algorithm proposed for fast cell search of WCDMA systems. In order to improve both performance and complexity of the cell search algorithm standardized for WCDMA systems the PCM scheme uses a group of the polarization codes produced by a Gold code generator. The PCM scheme only uses one synchronization channel since the polarization codes modulated on P-SCH can replace the RS codes of S-SCH. Thus, the PCM reduces the BS's transmission power since only one synchronization channel can be used, and it can also reduce the complexity of receiver as compared with the conventional one. In this paper, by defining a numerical model, we analyze the performance of the PCM cell search algorithm in terms of detection probability and mean acquisition time. Consequently, we could demonstrate that the PCM cell search algorithm is superior to the standard WCDMA cell search algorithm.

  • Each robot decides and behaviors themselves surrounding circumstances in the swarm robot system. Robots have to conduct tasks allowed through cooperation with other robots. Therefore each robot should have the ability to learn and evolve in order to adapt to a changing environment. In this paper, we proposed learning based on Q-learning algorithm and evolutionary using Harmony Search algorithm and are trying to improve the accuracy using Harmony Search Algorithm, not the Genetic Algorithm. We verify that swarm robot has improved the ability to perform the task.
