  • Job search research has been criticized for failing to study the dynamics and change of the job search process. A lot of previous researches have used cross-sectional designs and treated job search as a static process. As a result, job search research has failed to examine how job seekers' behaviors change during the course of their search. This paper examined changes In job search behaviors(preparatory and active job search behavior, and job search intensity) and the effects of individual difference variables(self-esteem, self-efficacy, extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness) on job search behaviors. Data were gathered from 404 university students who had not found employment at the time of beginning of second semester The results of t-test pairs indicated that job seeking students increased their preparatory job search behavior and active job search behavior, but didn't job search intensity. The results of multiple regression showed that self-efficacy had strong relationship with preparatory and active job search behavior, and job search intensity, but self-esteem had not any relationship with them. Among big-5 personality, extroversion had relationship with active job search behavior and job search intensity, and agreeableness only with job search intensity.

  • Visual search in an unstructured search field is a fruitful research area for computational modeling. Search models that describe relationship between search time and probability of target detection have been used for prediction of human search performance and provision of ideal goals for search training. Until recently, however, most of models were focused on detecting a single target in a search field, although, in practice, a search field includes multiple targets and search models for multiple targets may differ from search models for a single target. This study proposed a random search model for multiple targets, generalizing a random search model for a single target which is the most typical search model. To test this model, human search data were collected and compared with the model. This model well predicted human performance in visual search for multiple targets. This paper also proposed how to determine optimal stopping time in multiple-target search.

  • This study aims to investigate the current status of mobile search functions of Korean search portals, namely Google Korea, Naver, Nate, Daum, and Yahoo Korea. This study focuses on unique mobile search functionalities, such as voice search, music search, code search, and visual/ object search. In particular, this study analyzed characteristics of these search functions and evaluated their performances based on the accuracy and the speed of recognition. The results of this study show that both Naver and Daum support various mobile searching functions, whereas Google only supports voice search. Nate and Yahoo do not offer any unique function. The results of this study can be applied to the portal's effective development of mobile search functionalities.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of satisfaction in major and career search efficacy on nursing students' career search behavior. Method: Data were collected from 544 students by means of self reported questionnaires about satisfaction in major, career search efficacy and career search behavior from March 2 to April 5, 2010. Result: The average score of satisfaction in major, career search efficacy and career search behavior was 3.61, 3.37, and 2.39 respectively. There were positive correlations between satisfaction in major and career search behavior, between career search efficacy and career search behavior, and between satisfaction in major and career search efficacy. Satisfaction in major and career search efficacy were significant predictors of career search behavior. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop an effective intervention program to improve nursing student's satisfaction in major, career search efficacy and career search behavior.

  • This study explored factors affecting consumer's external information search effort on online shopping malls through three approaches(cost-benefit approach, psychological motivation approach, and web-site theory approach) respectively, and designed the integrative model through searching the relationships among them. In this study search motivation are designed to be explained by search benefit and search cost that are explained by factors related to the web site and search efforts are designed to be explained by search benefit, search cost and search motivation. The results from our empirical research showed that search motivation, search benefits and prior knowledge on online shopping malls have a direct effect on consumer external information search effort. On the other hand, it was verified that the search motivation was affected by search benefits and purchase involvement, and the search benefits are directly influenced by purchase involvement, constructive simplicity, search convenience and trust. In addition, purchase involvement, time press, constructive simplicity and search convenience had direct effects on the search cost.

  • Naver, a leading search engine in South Korea, may show modified and reorganized search results for some trendy and popular keywords; when popular words such as the titles of soap operas and films are searched for,all the detailed and well-organized information regarding them can be presented. By recognizing that search engines may modify and reorganize search results for some popular keywords, we mathematically model the impact of the degree of modification of search results on the search engine's profit to derive its optimal modification degree. We show how the optimal degree of search result modification may change according to the different shapes of the search engine's advertising revenue function.

  • The major purpose of this study was to find the influencing factors in explaining information search patterns and to find if significant differences exist in search outcomes by search patterns. The data for this study were collected in a survey conducted in March of 1993. The final sample consisted of 327 respondents purchased refrigerator 340 purchased bed. The important findings of this study are as follows: First The variables related to search cost-benefit play an important role in identifying search patterns of consumers. Second search outcomes were different among four information search patterns for each of information sources. The overall search outcomes the level of purchase knowledge and of post-purchase satisfaction was relatively high for high-search and high-reliance group compared with other groups. And the results also indicate that although some consumers search less than others they still can make good purchase decision-making and can maximize their utility if they choose useful information sources selectively and use those selected information sources effectively. The findings of this study provide some implications regarding consumer education programs the consumer information providing policies and future research methods.

  • In this paper, we propose an intelligent e-commerce meta-search engine which integrates distributed e-commerce sites and provides a unified search to the sites. The meta-search engine performs the following functions: (1) the user is able to create a category-based user query, (2) by using the WordNet, the query is semantically refined for increasing search accuracy, and (3) the meta-search engine recommends an e-commerce site which has the closest product information to the user’s search intention by matching the user query with the product catalogs in the e-commerce sites linked to the meta-search engine. An experiment shows that the performance of our model is better than that of general keyword-based search.

  • An Exponential Bandwidth Harmony Search with Centralized Global Search (EBHS-CGS) was developed to enhance the performance of a Harmony Search (HS). EBHS-CGS added two methods to improve the performance of HS. The first method is an improvement of bandwidth (bw) that enhances the local search. This method replaces the existing bw with an exponential bw and reduces the bw value as the iteration proceeds. This form of bw allows for an accurate local search, which enables the algorithm to obtain more accurate values. The second method is to reduce the search range for an efficient global search. This method reduces the search space by considering the best decision variable in Harmony Memory (HM). This process is carried out separately from the global search of the HS by the new parameter, Centralized Global Search Rate (CGSR). The reduced search space enables an effective global search, which improves the performance of the algorithm. The proposed algorithm was applied to a representative optimization problem (math and engineering), and the results of the application were compared with the HS and better Improved Harmony Search (IHS).

  • Generally, search engine summarizes the main contents of the search results so that user can click the site providing the information of the contents to search first. In this study, we demonstrated whether the user clicks on the search results based on the summary content provided by the search engine or on the order of the search result placement through empirical studies through the presentation of search results. By using the API provided by the search engine company, a search site that presents the search results in a regular and inverse order is created, and the click action of each user's search result is displayed in the order of actual click order, click position, and the user's search type such as the route of movement. As a result of the analysis, most users account for more than 60% of users who click on the first and second exposed search results regardless of the search results. It is confirmed that the search priority of users is determined according to the order of search results regardless of the summary of search results.
