  • A FRET-based high-throughput screening system was developed for the discovery of competitive smallmolecule Hsp90 inhibitors. The biarsenical fluorescein derivative FlAsH and dabcyl-conjugated Hsp90 inhibitor GM were employed as the FRET donor and quencher, respectively. The spatial proximity perturbation between FlAsH-labeled Hsp90N and GM-dabcyl upon treatment of a small molecule led to changes in the FRET-induced fluorescence, monitored in a high-throughput fashion.

  • The Raf, a cytoplasmic serine/thereonine protein kinase, acts as an important mediator of signals involving cell proliferation, differentiation and development. Multiple regulatory elements should participate in the expression of D-raf, Drosophila homolog of human c-raf-1. In order to search regulatory factors involved in the D-raf promoter activation, we accomplished the yeast one-hybrid screening using D-raf promoter region from bp-330 to -309 with respect to the transcription initiation site as bait. After screening, sixteen independent positive clones of ${\beta}$-galactosidase activties were identified and sequenced. Two clones having 94-98% identity with daughterless and one clone having 93% identity with escargot by Blast search among these clones were screened.

  • Purpose: As the intensity and frequency of natural hazards are increasing due to climate change, external events that affecting nuclear power plants(NPPs) may increase. NPPs must be protected from external events such as natural hazards and human-induced hazards. External events that may occur in NPPs should be identified, and external events that may affect NPPs should be identified. This study introduces the methodology of identification and screening methods for external events by literature review. Method: The literature survey was conducted on the identification and screening methods of external events for probabilistic safety assessment of NPPs. In addition, the regulations on the identification and screening of external events were investigated. Result: In order to minimize the cost of external event impact analysis of nuclear power plants, research on identifying and screening external events is being conducted. In general, in the identification process, all events that can occur at the NPPs are identified. In the screening process, external events are selected based on qualitative and quantitative criteria in most studies. Conclusions: The process of identifying and screening external events affecting NPPs is becoming important. This paper, summarize on how to identify and screen external events for a probabilistic safety assessment of NPPs. It is judged that research on bounding analysis and conservative analysis methods performed in the quantitative screening process of external events is necessary.

  • SIME(Single Machine Equivalent) method has been recognized as a useful tool to determine transient stability of power system. In this paper, SIME method is used to develop the KEPCO transient stability assessment (TSA) tool. A new screening algorithm that can be generators are identified by a new index in the early stage of the time domain simulation. Thus, computational time require to find OMIB(One Machine Infinite Bus) can be reduced significantly. Second, clustering critical machines can be performed even in very stable cases. It enables to be avoid extra calculation of time trajectory that is needed in SIME for classifying the stable cases. This algorithm is applied to the fast TSA of the KEPCO system in the year of 2010.

  • We developed multimedia esophageal catheters for use with birds to measure and record ECG and angular velocity while anesthesized, at rest, and in flight. These catheters enable estimates of blood pressure based on readings given by an angular velocity sensor and by RR intervals of ECG affected by EMG. In our experiments, the catheters had the following characteristics: 1. Esophageal catheters offer a topological advantage with 8-dB SNR improvement due to elimination of electromyography (EMG). 2. We observed a very strong correlation between blood pressure and the angular velocity of esophageal catheter axial rotation. 3. The impulse conduction pathway (Purkinje fibers) of the cardiac ventricle has a direction opposite to that of the mammalian pathway. 4. Sympathetic nerves predominate in flight, and RR interval variations are strongly suppressed. The electrophysiological data obtained by this study provided especially the state of the avian autonomic nervous system activity, so we can suspect individual's health condition. If the change of the RR interval was small, we can perform an isolation or screening from the group that prevent the pandemics of avian influenza. This catheter shall be useful to analysis an avian autonomic system, to perform a screening, and to make a positive policy against the massive infected avian influenza.

  • In this study, the image quality assessment, especially spatial resolution evaluation, for Sparse-view CT reconstructed images was performed. The main goal of the experiment is to evaluate Modulation Transfer Function by using American Standard Method for Measurement of Computed Tomography System Performance(ASTM E1695-95) which uses the edge test object. To compare with the ASTM method, a different method, the radial-type edge profile, to measure MTF using the edge method also performed. Both approaches were tested on the same image acquired by the stationary-gantry sparse-view CT security-screening system using cylindrical test phantom manufactured in accordance with ANSI 42.45. Both of the spatial resolutions at 10% modulation are 0.195, 0.203lp pixel-1, respectively. The method implemented by ASTM E1695-95 showed higher reliability and had a relatively more accurate spatial resolution result than the radial-type edge profile method.

  • The purpose of this study is to conduct a systematical survey about the recognition by Korean women's age groups on the cervical cancer screening, of which screening age has expanded to include 20 years of age as of January 2016. An online survey was conducted between July 26th to 31st 2017, and 332 answers in total were collected. 332 sets of survey were used to conduct frequency analysis, chi-square test. According to the result, only 116(34.9%) answered that they recognized the current system of cervical cancer screening. Additionally, most of the subjects, namely 298(89.8%), had the intention to take the cancer screening, but the number of subjects who actually received the test was low with 209(63.0%). Therefore, it is necessary to educate and publicize the importance of screening to increase the screening participation.

  • An important purpose of screening DSM(Demand Side Management) programs is to determine which programs or technologies seem to be moot worthy of further development, given the characteristics of the particular utility system. Complication found in screening DSM technologies is the consideration of costs and benefits from several perspectives : the utility, society, participants, free riders and nonparticipants. In this paper, a nation-wide DSM screening model is presented using a rigorous mathematical formulation on the financial basis and the concept of marginal coots considering all affected parties inside the nation is fully exploited.

  • The effects of a newly synthesized $H^+/K^+$ ATPase inhibitor,1-(2-methyl-4-methoxypheny)-4-[(3-hy-droxypropyl)amino] -6-methyl-2,3-dihydropyrrolo (3,2-c) quinoline (DBM-819) , on the central nervous system, isolated smooth muscle, cardiovascular and digestive systems and renal function were investigated in various experimental animals. Oral administration of DBM-819 had no effect on the central nervous system except body temperature of mice slightly decreased at doses of 15 and 50 mg/kg. DBM-819 produced a moderate analgesic effect in acetic acid-induced writhing test in mice at 50 mg/kg (p.o.). In conscious rats, DBM-819 (15 and 50 mg/kg, p.o.) showed a slight increase in blood pressure and a small decrease in heart rate. DBM-819 had an significant effect on agonist-induced contraction of guinea pig ileum at $1.5{\times}10^{-5}g/ml.$ No significant effect of DBM-819 (5 and 15 mg/kg, i.p) on urinary volume or urinary excretion of $Na^+,\;K^+$ and Cl- was observed in rats. DBM-819 had no significant effect on intestinal transport of a semisolid meal in mice at 15 and 50 mg/kg (p.o.). These findings suggest that DBM-819 exerts no significant pharmacological effects on the central nervous system and renal function at 15 mg/kg (p.o.), but produces some effects on the smooth muscle and circulatory system.
