  • To prevent safety accidents such as injury or death from falling by blocking platforms from trains, the Seoul Metropolitan Subway Corp. have gradually installed screen doors in platforms of 115 subway stations in Seoul on lines 1, 2, 3, and 4. Installation in nine areas among those has been completed and screen doors are being operated as a model operation. Traffic signs should be clear for users. The essential functions of signs should be fully investigated from the aspect of user as well as the visual beauty and recognition. Signs should be able to provide users with information regarding location, position, directions, etc. Particularly, safety and convenient signs should be visually and sensually correlated. However, the entire screen doors in platforms installed in line 2 subway in Seoul are used for commercial advertisement, consequently, the functions and roles as public signs are not fulfilled aggravating inconvenience for users. In this study, cases have been studied to investigate requirements for user-oriented sign system in platform and public sign space to fulfill the functions of sign system in platform. Using an anthropometry approach, the study aimed to obtain the space to install the sign system and to systemize necessary and sufficient conditions for user-oriented system for platform in which screen doors have been installed using. The study suggests fundamental information to obtain the space of public sign system on the entire screen door.

  • In this study, unsteady wind pressure analyses on platform screen door (PSD) have been conducted considering the flow intereference effects between the moving train and the configuration of subway station. The major role of PSD prevents passenger accidents, wind pressure, polluted dust and noise when the train is entering the station platform. Computational fluid dynamic method with moving gird algorithm has been adopted to accurately predict unsteady pressure levels exerted on the PSD. Closed and open type station configuration are considered. Also, wind pressure levels for passing and stopping drive motion of the entering train are presented and practically compared each other.

  • A study on fire phenomena in a subway transit mass station has been carried out as a part of disaster prevention plan at the subway station. The ventilation facilities installed in both the platform and the trackway are designed to convert into a smoke exhaust system in emergency situation, creating such an environment as necessary for evacuation. 3 dimensional Numerical Simulations based on the CFD are carried out using a simulation tool, Fire Dynamic Simulator. Additionally, four different vent modes are made and performances are compared with the original design mode and each other to find better operation of vents at both the platform and the trackway in case of fire. From the result, an vent operational characteristics under the condition of installed PSD is clarified for the effective smoke and heat removal from the platform area compared with non installed PSD.

  • The ascent and descent market screen door (PSD-Platform Screen Door) between the electromotive car which is in the process of operating from the subway ascent and descent market and the passenger it is an immediacy and crisis as the system which it intercepts currently the inside and outside of the country of course signal system automatic operation signal system (ATO) establishment is operated from the segment. Manual operation signal system (the ATS and the ATC) almost it is a condition which is wholly lacking from the segment. This year from second half of the year 2 line manual operation signal system (ATS). It established the shutting tightly elder brother and the railing elder brother in PSD system in segment 12 reverses and the death accident due to the passenger hurt accident which occurs from the subway. It prevented an energy curtailment in the same time when it raises air cooling efficiency, It gathered it restricted the underground space which is comfortable in the use citizen and and and service it did interface the electromotive car and PSD entrance and exit literature course from the manual operation segment to sleep technically optimizationt. It researched a minute dust diffusion.

  • In the present study, the analysis on heat and fluid flow in subway station platform is carried out by considering the pressure drop between screen doors and stair passages. To investigate the effect on the characteristics of heat and fluid flow of pressure drop, Numerical simulation is applied. The present results show a better cooling condition, in the case of without pressure drop.

  • In this paper, the structural analysis and optimization of the door supporting rail structure in the header box located at the top of the aluminum passenger safety door(PSD) at the subway station, which opens and closes regularly, is performed. In case the simple fixed boundary condition is used for the bolt fixture on the supporting rail where the glass door is moving, excessive stresses are obtained. Therefore, more realistic finite element modeling of the bolts is used at the bolt fixture in the whole structure in order to obtain the more physically acceptable FEM results. As a result, fatigue life of twenty years of the structure is obtained to satisfy the design object. Also the optimal design of cross section of the rail part is performed using the response surface method and 15% of weight of the supporting rail part on the door is reduced.

  • The platform safety door is difficult to install in platform because the doors of railway vehicles and existing Passenger Safety doors should be alined. To be able to solve this problem, we propose the use of Rope Type Platform Safe Door (RPSD) which is a vertically retractable platform that is designed to close from top to bottom. This platform has installed safety gate pillars at intervals of 20-40 m which accommodates different types of train regardless of train length, gate opening and location. In this paper, we reviewed the application of existing PSD and RPSD in various train stops in Seoul Gyeongbu Line platform. The results of the review showed that the existing PSD may cause problem in construction, safety and cost efficiency. The use of RPSD however shows that minimal problems will be encountered.

  • Platform Screen Door(PSD) has been installed and operated at seoul subway line $1\sim4$ in the manual train operation mode(ATS/ATC) by SeoulMetro since 2005. SeoulMetro uses the wireless (RF) communication system and the train door detection system for the link between the train and PSD doors opening/closing motion in the manual train operation mode. For the convenience and safety of passengers, the train doors and the PSD doors opening/closing shall be synchronized as much as possible. In ATO(Automatic Train Operation) mode which provides the interface between train control system and PSD system, ATO signaling system makes the train doors and PSD doors open/close command signals systematically, so PSD doors can be opened/closed almost simultaneously with the train doors. But, in the manual train control(ATS/ATC) mode, PSD system needs to detect the train doors open/close operation and make PSD open/close command signals to actuate PSD doors. These PSD open/close commanding process cause time delay of PSD doors opening/closing motion in response to the train doors opening/closing motion. Sometimes the response delay time can be over 1 second, which is not proper to operate PSD, and need to be reduced This paper presents the reduction method of the PSD response delay time to improve the convenience and safety of passengers.

  • Metro serves more than a basic function of transporting passengers between short distances but became a crucial part of civic culture due to the fact that citizens demand various facilities for better life style. Therefore, domestic metro cuts off train noise and air dust, provides pleasant platform surroundings by offering effective HVAC, and establishes PSD (Platform Screen Door) system to prevent falls into train tracks. To control and interlock EMU Door and PSD to avoid passenger complaint and revenue service obstructions, stability and reliability of on-board & wayside equipment are required foremost and each line needs to build optimum interface between on-board & wayside equipment. To control PSD, we would like to introduce examples of Busan Metro(BTC : Busan Transportation Corporation) which already utilizes interface between on-board & wayside equipment in various ways and consider optimum interface between on-board & wayside equipment in future PSD system.
