  • Present address system in korea was originally applied as a lot number system for the purpose of collecting taxes since 1910's, which has been changed irregularly by development of the urban areas. This unreasonable address system has disadvantaged the social welfare and the industrial structure, such as visiting, communication, delivery, sightseeing, marketing, transportation, etc. Therefore the new system, which would be rational and scientific, has been deeply demanded for the better services of spatial information and administrative efficiency of government. Korean government has launched the new address project as part of strengthening measures for national competitiveness since 1996. This paper would discuss the grant scheme of road name and building number in Cheongju city and evaluate the construction process of the new address management system.

  • Objectives : The goal of this paper is to research what the name and concept of true-cold damage in Introduction to Medicine were originated from, and to trace the origin and changes of categorization of it after the book. Methods : Books concerned with true-cold damage were collected as many as possible, besides ones that Introduction to Medicine referred to, before the name, concept and categorization of it were searched and analysed. Results : The concept of true-cold damage in Introduction to Medicine, which had come from Lei Zheong Huo Ren Shu(類證活人書) in Song dynasty, was more similar to one of cold damage in a broad sense. The name that Li Chan appreciated, was derived from not Shang Han Zhi Ge(傷寒直格), but Shang Han Zheng Zhi Ming Tiao(傷寒證治明條) in Song dynasty. On the other hand, since Tao Hua(陶華) began to go into the details of cold damage in a narrow sense, most books had followed it. Whereas 11 diseases among 24 diseases of true-cold damage in Introduction to Medicine indirectly came from Lei Zheong Huo Ren Shu(12 diseases), 14 diseases among them were directly derived from Shang Han Zheng Zhi Ming Tiao(16 diseases) and 10 diseases were added containing syndromes of retained fluid and jaundice. The categorization in Introduction to Medicine scarcely adopted except Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑) and Uimunbogam(醫門寶鑑), while the categorization of true-cold damage in a narrow sense was mostly composed of 2 diseases, that is cold damage(傷寒) and wind damage(傷風). Conclusions : Li Chan had fulfilled the total conditions in which the concept, cause, symptoms, prescriptions and prognosis of 24 diseases in true-cold damage were equipped, in order to build up the system and categorization of it. To our regret, his scientific outcome had been hardly referred after his book.

  • The field of information science has been documented in several ways during its existence and in some ways has mirrored that of other scientific disciplines during the same period. This article examines variables related to author gender of information science articles in American Documentation (AD) during its entire run, 1950 through 1969. Published by the American Documentation Institute, AD was a primary information science journal of its time, changing its name in 1970 to the Journal of the American Society for Information Science (JASIS), corresponding with the change of the parent organization's name to the American Society for Information Science (1968). AD was preceded by an earlier "information science" publication, the Journal of Documentary Reproduction (JDR), 1938-1942, issued by the American Library Association. Studies indicate that females contributed about 8% for the entire run of articles in JDR (1938-1942) and about 22% for the first twenty-seven years of JASIS (1970-1996). The present study explores the nature of female contributions to AD for the middle period (1950-1969). It has been determined that for the entire run of the journal under the name AD, female authors comprised about 17% of the contributors, which places their publishing percentage for this period between the earlier and later periods, thus expectedly filling the gap.

  • Many fish species are imported into Korea from various countries. However, in the case of some fish species, there are many that do not have Korean names. Species similar in morphology to domestically produced aquatic products are often disguised as being domestically produced and distributed. Therefore, this study presents a species list for 1,032 fish imported into Korea. Fish species that have not been given Korean names have been given a Korean name using a scientific method to prevent confusion during seafood distribution. Standards for naming stingrays, skates, and mackerel, which are often confused when a country name is being assigned are presented.

  • The aim of this paper is to explore the concept, backgrounds of an geopark's origin, and activity of geopark in geography, and to debate the Korean name of the geopark (or geological park) in controversial. Geopark starts with the collaboration between International Geographical Union(IGU) and International Union of Geological Sciences(IUGS). However, the intention which is establishing the law of geopark (or geological park) within a specific academic realm in Korea, would be wrong. The reason for this argument is that activities in Geopark have aspects of the conservation of natural heritage as well as geomorphological and geological one. Therefore, geopark should not be focused upon a specific academic realm. The geological scope alone seems to be limited. That is why "GEO" is more than geology. "GEO" involves geographical and geomorphological issues as well. Within this context, in Korea where is in the quickening period of geopark, the discussion and agreement with the Korean name of geopark are absolutely imperative.

  • Text mining has become an important research method in biology, with its original purpose to extract biological entities, such as genes, proteins and phenotypic traits, to extend knowledge from scientific papers. However, few thorough studies on text mining and application development, for plant molecular biology data, have been performed, especially for rice, resulting in a lack of datasets available to solve named-entity recognition tasks for this species. Since there are rare benchmarks available for rice, we faced various difficulties in exploiting advanced machine learning methods for accurate analysis of the rice literature. To evaluate several approaches to automatically extract information from gene/protein entities, we built a new dataset for rice as a benchmark. This dataset is composed of a set of titles and abstracts, extracted from scientific papers focusing on the rice species, and is downloaded from PubMed. During the 5th Biomedical Linked Annotation Hackathon, a portion of the dataset was uploaded to PubAnnotation for sharing. Our ultimate goal is to offer a shared task of rice gene/protein name recognition through the BioNLP Open Shared Tasks framework using the dataset, to facilitate an open comparison and evaluation of different approaches to the task.
