  • In a refrigerator, many food boxes are stored, so the flow of chilly air has very complicate stream paths inside the room of a refrigerator. Moreover, on some occasions, there is no flow of chilly air in a space due to blocking flow paths by food boxes, which is an important issue to be settled for improving the ability of food storage with fresh states. One of methods to solve this problem is to redesign the flow-pattern of chilly air to be uniform flow inside room, if possible. In this work, we have tried to design the duct-structure for the uniform flow of a chilly air using a FE-analysis method. And we conducted real commercial tests using a refrigerator having the redesigned duct. The results showed that good agreements with general requirements.

  • A new computationally efficient algorithm-based propagator method for two-dimensional (2-D) direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation is proposed, which uses two parallel uniform linear arrays. The algorithm takes advantage of the special structure of the array which enables 2-D DOA estimation without pair matching. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves very accurate estimation at a computational cost 4 dB lower than that of standard methods.

  • The usage status of trousers as school uniform for girl's middle and high school students in Seoul and the perception on trousers as school uniform were analyzed. Students who wore 'skirts only' were the greatest and students who wore 'trousers only' were higher in the case of winter uniform than in summer uniform. The most popular reason to wear skirts was 'because most of their fellow students wore skirts' in both winter and summer. The main reason for wearing trousers was 'because it was easy to cope with changes in temperature' in winter and 'because it allowed more comfortable movements' in summer. Students who wore trousers were generally satisfied with wearing trousers as school uniforms. However, they showed a low degree of satisfaction about design and color of trousers. The students preferred slim and straight trousers, and black col or with beige and blue being the next color. Students in general had low level of recognition for the need to wear trousers. Students perceived trousers as being cold-proof and comfortable for physical activities. But they also perceived that trousers were not suitable for improving their appearances and expressing their characteristics. Especially, the students who wore trousers tended to think that trousers reduced their cares for their personal attire and that trousers were good for wearing after school, but the students who did not wear trousers were found to think contrary.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate high school students' buying attitudes toward school uniform brands according to clothing conformity orientation. For this research, a survey was carried out to 418 boy and girl students in Seoul and Gyeonggi areas. The data analysis of this study was verified by descriptive analysis, factor analysis, reliability tests, cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA with Duncan-test, and ${\chi}^2$-test. The results are as follows. First, high school students preferred and had strong intentions to buy school uniforms of famous leading brands although they were not satisfied with famous brands. Especially, respondents tended to have favorable attitudes toward sophisticated and luxurious designs of famous school uniform brands. Second, respondents who had a conformity to parents tended to follow parents' opinions by purchasing famous brand uniforms. The conformity group of mass media preferred famous brands, and acquired the information about uniforms from various mass media such as television or magazines. A peer conformity group also preferred leading brands. Based on results of this study, curriculum of home education department should consist of contents for inducing rational consumption of uniforms by considering students' inclination of conformity. In terms of marketing perspectives, school uniforms firms need to reinforce strategies to improve products' quality and value for money.

  • This study attempted to develop winter jackets and pants patterns reflecting the latest comfortable and active school uniform trends, using middle school boy avatars having various body shapes. Jacket and pants pattern-drawing methods and margins differed. Based on the results, research prototypes were prepared. Then, virtual wear prospective drawings, clothing pressure, and appearance were assessed according to body shape. Jackets were assessed using 25 factors, while pants were assessed using 19. Then, correlations between the jackets and pants were analyzed. According to the analysis, the reason why the dart & tuck position and margin were rated low was confirmed. In a virtual wear assessment on jacket patterns by body shape, a significant difference was found in all categories, except for fit and shape at the front bottom, sleeve length on the side, and the center back line. The virtual wear assessment on the pants patterns by body shape also revealed a significant difference in all categories, except for pants length. In jackets, a significant influence was observed around the shoulders and waist in Type 1 and around the belly in Type 2. On the contrary, for pants, a significant influence was found around the hip and waist in Type 1 and around back crotch in Type 2. Therefore, they should be considered when making of jackets and pants. The above results suggested that jacket and pants patterns should vary depending on body shape. It is anticipated that there should be further studies comparing brand-name school uniforms for middle school girls and school uniforms by body shape.

  • This study intends to find the meaning of signs' configuration in Korean and British school uniform advertisements, to investigate through reproduction of such signs what influences on students' identity issues are, and to discover the cultural significance of the both nations by analysing sexuality discourses around these ads. The authors apply semiotic analysis methods such as two-stage meaning structure and critical discourse analysis. The research subjects are School uniform advertisements of both in South Korea and in the UK. Through this study, women objectification, the power imbalances between men and women, and child erotica were revealed, and also the uniforms of the meaning and value turned out to be distorted. In addition, on the basis of critical discourse analysis, two nations' school uniform ads, which heavily focused on sexual objectification and commercialism, transformed aspects of unusual esthetic value, reminded of Lolita fantasy, implied wrong justification of deviant sexual orientation, and, caused Korean and British students the confusion of sexual identity and values.

  • Drying shrinkage in concrete caused by drying and the associated decrease in moisture content is one of the most important factors influencing the long-term deflection of steel-concrete composite slabs. The presence of profiled steel decking at the bottom of the composite slab causes non-uniform drying from top and bottom of the slab resulting non-uniform drying shrinkage. In this paper, a hydro-mechanical analysis method is proposed to simulate the development of non-uniform shrinkage through the depth of the composite slab. It also demonstrates how this proposed analysis method can be used in conjunction with previously presented structural analysis model to calculate the effects of non-uniform shrinkage on the long-term deflection of the slab. The method uses concrete moisture diffusion model to simulate the non-uniform drying of composite slab. Then mechanical models are used to calculate resulting shrinkage strain from non-uniform drying and its effect on the long-term behaviour of the composite slabs. The performance of the proposed analysis method is validated against experimental data.

  • This paper presents an energy-efficient (low power) prime-field hyperelliptic curve cryptography (HECC) processor with uniform power draw. The HECC processor performs divisor scalar multiplication on the Jacobian of genus 2 hyperelliptic curves defined over prime fields for arbitrary field and curve parameters. It supports the most frequent case of divisor doubling and addition. The optimized implementation, which is synthesized in a $0.13{\mu}m$ standard CMOS technology, performs an 81-bit divisor multiplication in 503 ms consuming only $6.55{\mu}J$ of energy (average power consumption is $12.76{\mu}W$). In addition, we present a technique to make the power consumption of the HECC processor more uniform and lower the peaks of its power consumption.

  • Heat transfer performance variation of a condenser caused by non-uniform distribution of air flow was investigated using a numerical simulation method. A heat exchanger used for a outdoor unit of a commercial heat pump system and represented by a numerical model was selected. Non-uniform profile of air-velocity was constructed by measuring the air velocity at various locations of the outdoor unit. Simulation was conducted for various refrigerant circuits and air flow conditions. Simulation results show that the heat transfer capacity was reduced depending on the air-flow rate and the refrigerant circuit configuration. It is also shown that the capacity reduction rate is increased as the average air velocity decreases.
