Modified Asymmetrical Variable Step Size Incremental Conductance Maximum Power Point Tracking Method for Photovoltaic Systems

  • The power-voltage (P-V) characteristic of a photovoltaic (PV) array is nonlinear and time varying with the change in atmospheric conditions. As a result, the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique must be applied in PV systems to maximize the generated energy. The incremental conductance (INC) algorithm, one of the MPPT strategies, is widely used for its high tracking accuracy, good adaptability to rapidly changing atmospheric conditions, and easy implementation. This paper presents a modified asymmetrical variable step size INC MPPT method that is based on the asymmetrical feature of the P-V curve. Compared with conventional fixed or variable step size method, the proposed method can effectively improve tracking accuracy and speed. The theoretical foundation and design principle of the proposed approach are validated by the simulation and experimental results.

주거환경과 학령기 아동 인성간의 상관성 연구 (Relationship between Housing Environment and Elementary School Children's Personality)

  • The purpose of this research is to find out the relationship between housing environment and elementary school children's personality. The samples of this research are 459 children from elementary schools in their fourth or higher year grades. The results were analyzed using frequency, percentage, and t-test, F-test and multi regression. The findings indicated that housing type does not have effect on environmental characteristics of children's room, while housing ownership type, housing size and children's room size have significant effects on them. Housing size and children's room size have significant effects on children's satisfaction. The larger children room provides higher satisfaction with children room environment. The finding showed that environmental characteristics of children's room have relationship with children's personality. The order of environmental characteristics of children's room has the highest relationship with children's personality.

  • Given an n-length text T over a $\sigma$-size alphabet, we present a compressed representation of T which supports retrieving queries of rank/select/access and updating queries of insert/delete. For a measure of compression, we use the empirical entropy H(T), which defines a lower bound nH(T) bits for any algorithm to compress T of n log $\sigma$ bits. Our representation takes this entropy bound of T, i.e., nH(T) $\leq$ n log $\sigma$ bits, and an additional bits less than the text size, i.e., o(n log $\sigma$) + O(n) bits. In compressed space of nH(T) + o(n log $\sigma$) + O(n) bits, our representation supports O(log n) time queries for a log n-size alphabet and its extension provides O(($1+\frac{{\log}\;{\sigma}}{{\log}\;{\log}\;n}$) log n) time queries for a $\sigma$-size alphabet.

  • The microcapsules containing fragrant oil as functional material were prepared by in-situ polymerization with prepolymer that was made from melamine-formaldehyde (MF) as wall material of microcapsules. The effects of polymerization variables, such as the nature and concentration of surfactants, stirring rate, and stirring time, on the size and distribution of the particles were investigated. Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermal analysis, particle size analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation were used to investigate the characteristics of microcapsules. Through the FT-IR and SEM analysis, we found that the prepared microcapsules were containing fragrant oil and the shape of particle was spherical. The nature and concentration of surfactants, stirring rate, and stirring time had profound effects on the particle size and particle size distribution.

N-Halamine을 이용한 항균 멤브레인의 특성 (Properties of Antimicrobial Membrane Using an N-Halamine Material)

  • N-Halamines are compounds which have covalent bonding between nitrogen and halogen. N-Halamine materials possess strong antimicrobial properties against wide spectrum of bacteria. The aim of this study is to prepare N-halamine membranes using m-aramid and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA). Surface characteristics using scanning electron microscope (SEM), pore size distribution, liquid permeability and mean pore size were measured to confirm feasibility as membrane. The results indicated that increased PYA portion up to 15% in the m-aramid/PVA blend resulted in improved pore size distribution, liquid permeability as well as mean pore size. Furthermore, antibacterial efficacy of the membranes after chlorination was confirmed and the results showed that bacteria in water were inactivated.

  • The purpose of this study was to synthesize the results of studies on the effects of multi-cultural education program for Korean children. Using the author's own selection criteria, 17 studies were finally selected and 31 effect sizes were calculated from these studies and used for meta analysis. The overall effect size for all studies on the random effect model was .802, and it was positive and high. Given the heterogeneity among the effect size, subgroup analysis was conducted. According to the analysis, effect sizes significantly differed depending on program goal, concerned multi-cultural higher than others. Result also showed that the high scored effect sizes were the general family, pre-school age children group, and the program were 11-20 children group in size, and 11~20 times in frequency of education.

An Analytical Study on Prediction of Effective Elastic Constants of Perforated Plate

  • In this study, the validity of the Eshelby-type model for predicting the effective Young's modulus and in-plane Poisson's ratio of the 2-dimensional perforated plate has been investigated in terms of the porosity size and its arrangement. The predicted results by the Eshelby-type model are compared with those by finite element analysis. Whenever the ratio of the porosity size to the specimen size becomes smaller than 0.07, the effective elastic constants predicted by finite element analysis are convergent regardless of the arrangement of the porosities. Under these conditions, the effective Young's moduli of the perforated plate can be predicted within the accuracy of $5\%$ by the Eshelby-type model, which overestimates and underestimates the effective Poisson's ratios by $10\%\;and\;6\%$ for the plates with periodically and non-periodically arranged porosities, respectively.

Algorithm for Concatenating Multiple Phonemic Units for Small Size Korean TTS Using RE-PSOLA Method

  • In this paper an algorithm to reduce the size of Text-to-Speech database is proposed. The algorithm is based on the characteristics of Korean phonemic units. From the initial database, a reduced phoneme unit set is induced by articulatory similarity of concatenating phonemes. Speech data is read by one female announcer for 1000 phonetically balanced sentences. All the recorded speech is then segmented by phoneticians. Total size of the original speech data is about 640 MB including laryngograph signal. To synthesize wave, RE-PSOLA (Residual-Excited Pitch Synchronous Overlap and Add Method) was used. The voice quality of synthesized speech was compared with original speech in terms of spectrographic informations and objective tests. The quality of the synthesized speech is not much degraded when the size of synthesis DB was reduced from 320 MB to 82 MB.

Design and Analysis of a Vibration-driven AA Size Electromagnetic Energy Harvester Using Magnetic Spring

  • This paper describes the design, simulation and characterization of an AA size electromagnetic energy harvester that is capable of converting environmental vibration into electrical energy. A magnetic spring technique is used to scavenge energy from low frequency external vibrations. The generator is characterized by ANSYS 2D finite element analysis, and optimized in terms of moving mass, fixed magnet size, coil width and load resistance. The optimized energy harvester is able to generate 53.5 mW of average power at 8.1 Hz resonance frequency, with a displacement of 0.5 mm.

Determinants of Liquidity in Manufacturing Firms

  • This study examines the factors that affect firm's liquidity in manufacturing companies listed in Vietnam. Factors studied include the board size, the board independence, the firm size, the firm age, and its return. We use different metrics to measure firm's solvency status, including the cash ratio, the quick ratio, and the cash conversion cycle. Accordingly, three econometric models are built to test hypotheses proposed by researchers in order to explain the relationship between the five factors above and liquidity's measures. The study used the data set of manufacturing companies listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange in the period from 2015 to 2019. The final sample group comprises 139 firms with 633 observations. The results show that in manufacturing firms, while the cash ratio and the quick ratio are positively associated to the board size, the board independence, and the firm's profitability, the net operating cycle is negatively correlated to the board size, the firm size, the board independence, and the profitability. Therefore, larger firms with larger board size and more independent members can help to improve capital management efficiency.There is no evidence for the relationship between the firm age and solvency measurements, between cash conversion cycle and firm's profitability.
