Purpose: This study was performed to identify the relationship between stress perceived by middle school students and social support level and to investigate the factors affecting middle school students' smoking behavior. Method: The data was collected from four hundred and thirteen students of one boys' middle school and one girls' middle school. Data were analyzed by using SPSS 11.5 Win Program. Result: Smoking rate was higher in girls than boys. The factors affecting smoking behavior were drinking (OR=67.62, P<0.01), having one parent or no parents(OR=9.98, P<0.05), and higher material support(OR=4.67, P<0.05). Conclusion: This results showed that smoking prevention program is needed for girls' middle school students. To prevent smoking, teachers should help students to cope with stress from schools and their environments with careful guidance, and organized support for the student with one parent or no parents should also be established. Furthermore, guidance in student's relationships with peers is needed regarding appropriate allowance, drinking, or substance use.
This study was planned to investigate indirectly the effects of study environments of high school students such as family characteristics, availability of sex education, and possibility of exposure to unhealthy sexual environments. For this purpose, the level of knowledge and attitude towards sex of general and industrial high school students were compared because these two groups of students were believed to be different in those study variables. For this study, 600 students (300 male and 300 female students) from a general high school students and 400 (200 male and 200 female) from an industrial high school in one industrial city in Korea were surveyed with a structured questionnaire. The study results were as follows: 1. There were significant differences in selected family condition variables between general and industrial high school students. Proportions of students with single parents, those who live in houses other than their own, and those father's occupations were farming and manufacturing were higher in industrial high school students than in general high school students. 2. Female students wanted to have more knowledge on sex whereas male students were interested in things related to sexual acts in both general and industrial high school students. The largest proportion of students wanted to discuss their sex problems with their friends not with their parents. 3. More students in general high school thought that the sexual intercourse is natural and pretty than those in industrial high school, whereas more industrial high school students insisted on the sexual purity before marriage than general high school students. 4. About 65% of students surveyed agreed to making friends with opposite sex and, in fact, more than half either had experiences or were having friends of opposite sex. More students in industrial high school wanted to choose their marital partners based on advices of their parents than students in general high school. 5. More female students than male and more industrial high school students than general high school students were embarrassed with first wet dream or menstruation and felt guilty about the masturbation. 6. Level of knowledge on reproductive physiology, sex transmitted disease and contraception was higher in general high school students than in industrial high school students. These study results suggest that simple knowledge on sex of the general high school students does not seem to affect positively the students attitude towards sex and the unfavorable living conditions of industrial high school students seem to influence the students to become more sincere and healthy in their attitude towards sex and life. Therefore, more thoughtful consideration in contents and methods should be given when the sex education is provided to the high school students.
This research attempts to analyze the significant factors that affect the level of expectation and satisfaction of parents on cooking activities for their child(ren) by comparing the levels of their original expectation and satisfaction; based on the understanding of the educational values and effects of cooking activities for children. To conduct the empirical studies, 254 survey samples were collected from the parents who have had their child(ren) participate in cooking activities; in addition, the data was processed and analyzed by using various comparative statistical analysis; including t-test, IPA analysis, regression analysis, one-way ANOVA. And Duncan's multiple test was added to verify the outcome afterwards. As the result of the research, the expectation and satisfaction of parents who let their child(ren) participate in cooking activities were significantly different by such variables as 'improvement of linguistic expression,' 'development of understanding numbers and scientific concepts,' 'extension of capability to give his/her emotional expressions,' 'assistance in soothing his/her psychological stresses.' Besides, 'educational contents and methods' were revealed as another factor that influenced parents' satisfaction, and it is clarified that the level of satisfaction is significantly different according to the organizations offering activity programs.

This study aims to develop the content structure of healthy dietary education for multicultural family parents who guides their children to the correct and desirable applications at home. This study is an exploratory study intended to establish the contents of healthy dietary education for multicultural family parents. For the methodology we investigated dietary behaviors of children of multicultural families. As a result of examining closely the necessity and contents of healthy dietary education for the multicultural families parents including food safety, nutrition, and food culture. Based upon the above findings, the goals of healthy dietary education for parents were set up, its content area and sub-area(education topics) were composed and fixed, and finally, topic-specific goals and 12 content elements were extracted, detailed and systematized for pre schoolers and elementary school children.
The purpose of this research was to develop risk communication (RC) strategy and educational web-site on food additives for elementary students and their parents to improve their perception on food additives and dietary life. First of all, a survey was conducted from 1,200 elementary children and their parents to diagnose the perception and information needs on food additives. The survey revealed that most children and their parents did not have enough knowledge on food additives and demanded the safety information on food additives. Second, previous researches on food communication were analyzed to develop a risk communication model, and it was directly applied in this study. Third, a web site (www.foodnara.go.kr/foodaddy) was developed to upload the education materials along with up-to-date information and classroom activities for teachers on food additives. Fourth, the developed homepage was evaluated by applying to about 100 children and parents each, and majority of them showed high levels of understanding (children 85.7%, parents 79%) and satisfaction (children 77.2%, parents 64%), and the effect of getting over the prejudice against food additives was observed. The RC model developed in this study could be applied to any food risk communication, and the content and materials in this web site including booklets, animations, and quiz could be used effectively to promote the communication on food additives. In the future, it will be necessary to advertise the web site to be utilized by various consumer levels and to update the contents continuously by developing consumer-friendly communication materials.
This thesis aims to investigate the mediatorial effect of peer attachments and self-esteem between the child abuse by their parents and the adolescents' life-satisfaction. In order to achieve this goal, the author analyzed the data gathered over 6 year period, which subjected 1823 third-year middle school students, a sample selected by the stratified-multilevel-sampling from the "Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey". The author collected the source material by means of SPSS WIN. 21.0 Program, frequency analysis, technological statistic analysis, relative analysis, path analysis (for satisfaction), and sobel test, etc. The results of analysis are as follows: Firstly, the child abuse by their parents has had a significant negative maladjustment on the participants' life satisfaction level. Secondly, the peer attachments had an influence on partial mediatorial effect between the child abuse by their parents and adolescents' content(satisfied) lives. Lastly, the self-esteem had an influence on the complete mediatorial effect between the child abuse by their parents and the adolescents' happy lives. The author gave an improved counterplan for peer attachments and self-esteem. The author suggests following researchers to include the impact of versatile environmental factors on adolescents' life satisfaction level which was excluded in the present research.

The purpose of this study is to analyze variables affecting parents' and elementary school students' value of computer science after creative computer science education, through multiple regression. Many researches on Informatics subject have focused on the effect of the subject contents on students but hardly dealt with parents' recognition. Thereupon, this study pays attention to the value of computer science recognized by parents and analyzes variables substantially affecting value variables of computer science related to parents' support for learning Informatics subjects. This paper did not verify the difference in recognition of parents and students but calculated more concrete influence by conducing multiple regression on the variables affecting the value recognized by each group. This is one of the reasons why this study is meaningful. According to the result of the analysis, variables affecting the value of parents on computer science the most are interest and satisfaction, and in students' case, self-efficacy is the variable affecting the value of computer science the most.
The purpose of this study was to develop and empirically evaluate a theoretical model that delineated the processes whereby parents' socioeconomic status affected students'academic achievement via parental support and students' ego-resilience. The proposed model was tested with the first and second wave of a cohort sample of the first grade middle school students from the Korean Children Youth Panel survey by using linear structural relations techniques. The results of analysis showed firstly that parents' socioeconomic status, parental support and students' ego-resilience directly affected the level of students'academic achievement with statistical significance. Secondly, parental support, the proxy of social capital of the family, was contingent upon the parents'socioeconomic status. Thirdly, in addition to its direct effect, parents'socioeconomic status gave indirect effect on students' academic performance through parental support and ego-resilience. Based upon these results implications for social work intervention were provided.
The purpose of this study was to verify whether strengthening family competency plays a mediating role in the influence of parents' parenting efficacy on the independent life of children with developmental disabilities. The subjects of the study were 146 parents with developmental disabilities, and data analysis using the SPSS 22.0 program was conducted. The mediating effect was Baron and Kenny Hierarchical regression analysis and sobel-test were conducted. As a result of the study, the positive effect of parents' parenting efficacy on the level of self-reliance and strengthening family competency of children with developmental disabilities was verified. In addition, the positive mediating effect of strengthening family competency was verified between the parenting efficacy of parents and the level of independence of children with developmental disabilities. As a result of the study, it is important to support parents' parenting and family capacity enhancement to support the independence of children with developmental disabilities.
The purpose of this study was to examine parents' perceptions towards, and the importance and performance levels of, foodservices in child-care centers and to suggest ways to increase foodservice quality and promote efficient operations in the future. A questionnaire survey was provided to 540 parents and the return rates 82%. The survey period was from June 20 to July 27,2007. The collected data were statistically analyzed with the SAS package program using descriptive statistical analysis, t-tests, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple comparisons, factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results were as follows: The parents perceived that foodservice operations promoted their children's health and helped them form desirable dietary habits. The parents also had a high level of perception toward the need for foodservice, earning greater than 4.5 points out of 5 points. Their perceptions of foodservice quality were examined by four dimensions of importance and performance levels. While the parents gave 4 points or greater of 5 points to most quality attributes of importance level, they gave 4 points of less out of 5 points to most quality attributes of performance level. As for the importance and performance levels of the quality dimensions of meal service, the parents regarded sanitation as the most important dimension. IPA showed that 'organic food materials' was included as a 'focus here' area. The overall satisfaction level for foodservice was 3.59 out of 5 points. A higher level of satisfaction was shown when a dietitian was present as well as in public childcare centers. According to multiple regression analysis, 53.51% of the variance in the respondents' overall satisfaction scores was explained by factors such as food, sanitation, environment, and foodservice effects.
