A Study on the Effect of Collaborative Instruction Between a Teacher Librarian and a Korean Language Teacher on a Middle School Student's Learning Interest and Academic Achievement (사서교사와 국어교사의 협동수업이 중학생의 학습흥미와 학업성취도에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to find out the impact of collaborative instruction between the teacher librarian and the classroom teacher on learning interest and academic achievement by running Library and Information Life, which is the textbook of information literacy for teacher librarians and the Korean language curriculum for the first grade of middle school through library-based instruction. The result of this study has a positive influence on academic achievement by facilitating learning interest on Korean language classes under coplanning, co-operating and coevaluating in the school library. Therefore, it is important to establish the institutional system for collaborative instruction in order to increase information literacy instruction in the school community. A local school should expand the physical environment and educational equipment of its school library and form a flexible schedule to have enough time for teaching information literacy skills and for using of materials.

A Case Study on the Operation of the Qualification Training Curriculum for Level 1 Librarian Teachers (사서교사 1급 자격연수 교육과정 운영 사례 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the actual state of the curriculum on how qualification training is organized and operated based on the operation case of the K University Education and Training Institute, which operated librarian teacher (level 1) qualification training was held during the summer vacation of 2021. As a result of the study, a total of 111 librarians participated in the actual qualification training, of which 50 librarian teachers (4 males, 46 females) were from elementary schools, 24 (4 males, 20 females) from middle schools, and 37 (5 males, 32 females) from high schools. In addition, the curriculum for qualification training consisted of core competencies and subjects that met the scope of the job of the 'learner strength development' and the 'librarian role statement', and the satisfaction ratio of the 111 librarian teachers who participated in the qualification training averaged 4.76 out of 5. Overall, the satisfaction was high, but it was suggested on the areas that were either the lowest or lower than average.

  • DLS(Digital Library System) have been established by Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development for providing the application services to each school library managers(teacher librarian) and front end users such as students and teachers. DLS's are separately operated by 15 major metropolitan or provincial office of education to cover all elementary, middle and high schools in Korea. There is a necessity which it will analyze the current status of DLS because it's system after starting a service 2 years passed. This study suggested to improvements strategies of DLS by survey from teacher librarian, subject teacher, students of 308 schools.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a measurement tool for self-image of the teacher librarian by semantic differential meaning scale and to analyse the correlation between their self-image and individual characteristics. This study suggests that the teacher librarians have regarded themselves as friendly, planned, sensitive and cooperative persons as well as persons with discernment. On the other hand, there are some negative self-images such as partial, poor and uninfluential persons plus disregarder and a reserved persons. The educational career of teacher librarians' background has influence on evaluation area of the self-image. This result shows that senior teacher librarians' role performance as a adviser or a leader is very important. So mediator role of KLA and KSLA has to be reinforced to beat the exchange and collaboration between the senior and the junior teacher librarians. It is necessary to appoint the teacher librarians obligatorily in oder to feel their professional security and sense of achievement, also to appreciate expertise of them through role clarification among the human resources of the school library.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest practical plans to improve the school library consulting, especially in case of a teacher librarian is not assigned. As a result of analyses, consulting through methods of the School Library Assistant Group lacks spontaneity, expertise, council, and independence. Besides, each office of education operates it as a marketing. A main goal of school consulting is to foster independent problem- solving of individual schools. Accordingly, it is necessary to build an union management system, develop a standard staff manual, construct DLS based on-line consulting, and design educational training programs of consultants for its successful consulting.

  • This study is to examine the basic structure of the professional development of school librarians and to analyze the national evaluation standards, and the states' evaluation tools and self-assessment tool currently used in the United States. The result is as follows: the structure of the school librarians' professional development processes, such as curriculum, certificate, and evaluation, have been affected by the national school library standards published by AASL. NBPTS's Library Media Standards and AASL's Learning4Life evaluation system are proposed as the representative national standards. Many states have developed their standards and tools to evaluate school librarians' performance, these standards are related to the national standards. AASL published A 21st-Century Approach to School Librarian Evaluation for school librarians' self-assessment in 2012, this workbook shows a specific way of developing their expertise.

A Study on the Analysis of Variables Affecting Teacher Librarians' Practice Teaching in Korea (사서교사 교유실습의 영향요인에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose an effective development of teacher librarians' practice teaching and to identify how much teacher librarians' practice teaching affects their expertise in Korea. For this, two research models are constructed. The first model is to analyze the relationship of variables between the effect of practice teaching and the following variables: pretraining, practice program, advisory teacher, training condition and organizational atmosphere. The second model is to analyze how much the practice teaching affects their role perception and expertise compared with training courses and field experiences. The result is as follow: It is the training program that greatly affects teacher librarians' practice teaching among those variables. And the practice teaching has a positive effect on the ability of role performance. According to the above result, the practice teaching is effective in developing teacher librarians' expertise. And more systematic practice teaching program, enough pretraining and the efforts of advisory teacher are necessary to enhance the effect of teacher librarians' practice teaching.

  • This study tried to analyze the validity of current teacher's evaluation systems to evaluate teacher librarians. The result is as follow: The current teacher evaluation system has the low validity to evaluate the expertise of teacher librarians, and the result of using this evaluation system, must be unfair to teacher librarians. This study will suggest alternatives on an appropriate evaluation item to strengthen teacher librarians' expertise and accountability.

Analysis on the Operation Situation of School Library Librarians' Study Circle in Suwon (수원지역 학교도서관 사서연구회 운영 현황 분석)

  • This study attempts to derive the necessity and effects of study circles and the direction for their future improvement by understanding the current operation situation of study circles by the librarian who are in charge of school libraries and their perception about the study circle activities. For this purpose, those in charge of school libraries in 25 Offices of Education Support in Gyeonggi-Do were surveyed by telephone interview regarding the operation of study circles by the school librarians. Survey analysis and in-depth interview were conducted particularly focusing on Suwon region where the school librarians turned out to be most actively involved in the study circle activities. According to the analysis results, study circle activities by librarian gives an opportunity of sharing information related to school library operation and cultivating competence as a librarian, in addition to being helpful in enhancing their performance capability in school libraries.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide self-evaluation indicators that each school could judge on its basic conditions for the school library opening to local community. School library opening to local community is one of the significantly operational strategies to contribute to the development of the learning community. But the school library has insufficient resources and support system for their local services. According to the survey teacher librarians who have the experience for their school library opening to local community have considered of deploying teacher librarian as the most important factor. And they asserted emphatically that school library would secure personnel expenses and obtain facilities and resources to provide the stable and systematic service. Also among the school library's educational activities, reading education is considered the most suitable program for the community.
