  • The purpose of the study was to observe the association between the main colors of school children's drawings of dental treatment situation and their dental anxiety. The subjects of study were 688 school children from 2nd to 4th grade. Caries experience was investigated by oral examination. Questionnaire survey was done regarding children's attitude toward the dentist and dental treatment and their experience of pain and fear during the dental treatment. Colors with high frequency of use were green, blue, yellow, orange, pink, purple, gray, brown, yellow ochre, red, white, and black in order. Boys used green and blue, and girls used yellow and orange, more than each other. As the grade increased, white, yellow, and blue increased and brown decreased. Colors with high dental anxiety level were black, brown, red, white, blue, orange, yellow and green, yellow ochre, gray, pink, and purple in order, and the upper four represented 10.5% of the subjects. Children with high decayed teeth rate had a tendency to use colors of high dental anxiety level. Black color had the most obvious association with the pain and fear of dental treatment.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the data on the medical personnel education system and license scheme and provide the basic material for an enhanced qualification system. In China, dental education reform has been underway with a view to providing an inclusive basic medical service package to the whole country by 2020. It is also estimated that the number of Korean dental medicine students in China would be fewer. And most of them desire to get a job in China after acquiring the Chinese license, suggesting little prospect of a massive inflow into Korea in the near future. In Japan, students are required to complete a clinical training program for over 1 year after receiving licenses to become an independent practitioner. But they can apply for the Korean preliminary examination without this post-graduation process. For this reason, the quality issue in license effectiveness review has been seriously discussed. It is deemed desirable to limit the Korean accreditation to Japanese graduates from the dental schools certified by the Japanese dental accreditation body.

  • This case study was to report the possible increase in the denture retention and psychological relief using the implant-supported fixed prostheses in a completely edentulous patient. The implants were placed in the anterior portion of the mandible in a patient who had completely edentulous state following the extraction of residual abutment teeth, and consequently a distal extension removable partial denture was fabricated. The patient's adaptation and satisfaction to the new prosthesis was monitored and confirmed in terms of masticatory function and esthetics, by restoring the oral condition similar to initial status before the residual teeth extraction. After 6 months, radiographic examination confirmed that both the abutment teeth and the implants were stable and well maintained. Considering the relatively short clinical follow-up period, however, continuous long-term monitoring was required.

  • Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is an aggressive and fast-growing malignant tumor. RMS predominantly arises in the head and neck of infancy and children. Metastasis is usually via the blood vessel. We report a case of a recurred RMS of the tongue base with the metastasis to multiple lymph nodes in a 37-year-old female. On the follow-up examination using advanced imaging modalities after surgical treatment of RMS, the lymph nodes should be carefully evaluated like in other malignancies, such as a carcinoma, showing frequent lymph node metastasis. • An 87-year-old woman was referred for the extraction of residual teeth and removal of tori prior to prosthetic treatment. After surgery under general anesthesia, the surgical tape was removed to detach the bispectral index sensor and the hair cover. After the surgical tape was removed, skin injury occurred on the left side of her face. After epidermis repositioning and ointment application, a dressing was placed over the injury. Her wound was found to have healed completely on follow-up examination. Medical adhesive related skin injury (MARSI) is a complication that can occur after surgery and subjects at the extremes of age with fragile skin are at a higher risk for such injuries. Careful assessment of the risk factors associated with MARSI is an absolute necessity.

  • Patients often seek consultation with dentists for their temporomandibular disorders (TMD), especially for pain. Acute pains refer to pains that are of short duration. Common acute TMD are arthralgia and local myalgia. Diagnosis should be made based on careful history taking and clinical examination. Most acute TMD are well controlled by education, cognitive awareness training, and conservative treatment. The aggressive and irreversible treatments should not be applied. Acute TMD should be controlled in the early phase so as not to be proceed to chronic pain.

In the school, 62.8% answered no experience of dental health education with the highest rate. Dental health education in the school was answered to be necessary with 91.0% the most prevalent one. Factors affecting the recognition of the expected effect of establishing the dental health center in the school, it is expected that if the establishment of the oral health center is needed and the oral health education is needed in the school, And the perception of the effect is increased. Conclusions: 91% of the respondents considered that dental health education was necessary and 83% answered they needed dental hygiene. However, only 37.2% of the students experienced dental health education in the school. Therefore, it is necessary to expand the dental health center establishment, and to develop the foundation of life dental health care through regular dental examination and proper brushing education.

  • This report presents a rare case of maxillary osteoblastoma in a 17-year-old female. The patient presented with dull pain and facial asymmetry inferior to the left zygoma. An intraoral examination found a painless swelling on the buccal gingival tissue in the left posterior maxilla. Panoramic radiographs and multidetector computed tomographic images revealed an ill-defined, non-corticated, mixed attenuating entity of osseous density located within the left posterior maxilla apical to the left maxillary molars. The entity exhibited a heterogeneous internal structure with a fine granular appearance, and the periphery showed a partial hypo-attenuating rim along the antero-medial aspect. Expansion of the left posterior maxilla accompanied with displacement of the left maxillary sinus floor was noted. External root resorption of the first and second molars was noted, as well as postero-superior displacement of the third molar. The histopathologic diagnosis of the biopsy was osteoblastoma. Complete excision of the tumor was performed.
