  • The purpose of this study is to formulate and solve the scheduling problem to heat-treatment process in forging process and apply it to industries. Heat-treatment is a common process in manufacturing heavy forged products in ship engines and wind power generators. Total complete time of the schedule depends on how to group parts and assign them into heat furnace. Efficient operation of heat-treatment process increases the productivity of whole production system while scheduling the parts into heat-treatment furnace is a combinatorial problem which is known as an NP-hard problem. So the scheduling, on manufacturing site, relies on engineers' experience. To improve heat-treatment process schedule, this study formulated it into an MIP mathematical model which minimizes total complete time. Three methods were applied to example problems and the results were compared to each other. In case of small problems, optimal solutions were easily found. In case of big problems, feasible solutions were found and that feasible solutions were very close to lower bound of the solutions. ILOG OPL Studio 5.5 was used in this study.

  • For the past several decades, personnel scheduling and rostering problem has been one of the most popular research topics in optimization area. Among the numerous applications, airline (aviation) industry has been given most attention due to the economic scale and impact. Most of the literatures about the staff scheduling problem in airline industry are dealing with the air crew, pilots and flight attendances, and the rest of the literatures are about the ground staff, by whom cleaning, maintenance, fueling of aircraft and handling luggage are done from landing to taking off. None of the literatures found by the authors are dealing with the airline ground crew. In this paper roster of airline ground crew, who is responsible for issuing boarding pass, checking baggage, etc, is introduced, formulated and solved using CPLEX. Some expressions of the mathematical formulations, which are not suitable input format of the CPLEX, were transformed. Numerical examples are presented for the validation of proposed scheduling system.

  • This paper considers a single machine scheduling problem to determine release and processing times where both the release times and processing times are linearly decreasing functions of resources. The objective is to minimize the sum of the associated resource consumption cost and scheduling cost including makespan, sum of completion times, maximum lateness, or sum of lateness. This paper proves that the scheduling problem is NP-hard in the strong sense even if the release times are constant.

  • This paper deals with the scheduling ploblems, which are the most important subtasks in High-level syntheses. IP(integer programming) formulations is used as the scheduling problem approach. This paper describes a new resource-constraints scheduling algorithm. We have concentrated our attentions on the multicycle operations and the structural pipelining, and we fully analyze the characteristics of operators to achieve the maximal performance and the maximal resource sharing. For experiment results, we choose the 5-th order digital wave filter as a benchmark and do the schedule, Finally, we can obtain near-optimal scheduling results.

  • A new scheduling scheme, which uses channel quality information of each flow in Bluetooth system of ad-hoc network for effective bandwidth assignment, has been proposed in this paper. By an effective bandwidth assignment, QoS (Quality of Service) could have been ensured in case of asymmetric data traffic, mixed data transmission, and congested data transmission in a specific channel. The scheduling algorithm determines channel weights using partial channel information of flows. Case studies conducted by NS-2 (Network Simulator 2) and Bluehoc simulator has been presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheduling scheme.

  • A new dynamic scheduling algorithm is proposed for CAN-based real-time system in this paper. The proposed algorithm is extended from an existing EDS(Earliest Deadline Scheduling) approach having a solution to the priority inversion. Using the proposed algorithm, the available bandwidth of network media can be checked dynamically, and consequently arbitration delay causing the miss of deadline can be avoided. Also, non-real time messages can be processed with their bandwidth allocation. Full network utilization and real-time transmission feasibility can be achieved through the algorithm. To evaluate the performance of algorithm, two simulation tests are performed. The first one is transmission data measurement per minute for periodic messages and the second one is feasibility in the system with both periodic messages and non-real time message.

  • In Korea, the CCGTs have been installed to about 25% of the total generating capacity. Generally CCGTs determine the System Marginal Prices(SMP) in Cost Based Generation Pool. So the scheduling of CCGTs is very important in daily generation scheduling. This paper describes the scheduling of CCGTs which considers the operating characteristics of them. We use lagrangian relaxation method which decomposes the unit committment problem into the subproblems of the individual unit. In the CCGT subproblem, we define the cost function of CCGT in two way. In Case study, the daily generation scheduling is performed using the data of Korean thermal system.

  • The IEEE 802.16 standard is supposed to provide a wide-range broadband wireless service, but it leaves the implementation of the wireless resource scheduler as an open issue. We have studied the scheduling problem and propose a two level scheduling (TLS) scheme with support for quality of service and fairness guarantees for downlink traffic in a WiMAX network. A central controller Base Station has a number of users, and each mobile subscriber station has different channel conditions. The same mobile subscriber station may have different service requirements at different times in the WiMAX network. Based on OPNET simulation, the results show our scheduling algorithm can increase the network throughput, maintain relative fairness, and lower delay over the round robin and weighted round robin algorithms.

  • Grid computing is a new technology which involves efforts to create a huge source of processing power by connecting computational resources throughout the world. The key issue of such environments is their resource allocation and the appropriate job scheduling strategy. Several approaches to scheduling in these environments have been proposed to date. Market driven scheduling as a decentralized solution for such complicated environments has introduced new challenges. In this paper the bidding problem with regard to resources in the reverse auction resource allocation model has been investigated and the new bidding strategies have been proposed and investigated.

  • In this paper, we deal with a single machine scheduling problems integrating with step deterioration effect and a rate-modifying activity (RMA). The scheduling problem assumes that the machine may have a single RMA and each job has the processing time of a job with deterioration is a step function of the gap between recent RMA and starting time of the job and a deteriorating date that is individual to all jobs. Based on the two scheduling phenomena, we simultaneously determine the schedule of step deteriorating jobs and the position of the RMA to minimize the makespan. To solve the problem, we propose a hybrid typed genetic algorithm compared with conventional GAs.
