  • The state assignment for a finite state machine greatly affects the delay, area, and testabilities of the sequential circuits. In order to minimize the dependencies among groups of state variables, therefore possibly to reduce the length and number of feedback cycles, a new state assignment technique based on m-block partition is introduced in this paper. After the completion of proposed state assignment and logic synthesis, partial scan design is performed to choose minimal number of scan flip-flops. Experiment shows drastic improvement in testabilities while preserving low area and delay overhead.

  • The Tomographic Gamma Scan (TGS) technique partitions radioactive waste drums into $10{\times}10{\times}16$ voxels and assays both the density and concentration of radioactivity for each voxel thus providing for improved accuracy, when compared to the traditional Non-Destructive Assay(NDA) techniques. It could decrease the degree of precision measurement since there is a trade-off between spatial resolution and precision. This latter drawback is compensated by expanding the Region of Interest (ROI) that differentiates the full energy peaks, which, in turn, results in an optimized degree of precision. The enlarged ROI, however, increases the probability of interference among those nuclides that emit energies in the adjacent spectrum. This study has identified the cause of such interference for the reference nuclide of the TGS technique, $^{137}Cs$ (661.66 keV, half-life 30.5 years), to be $^{110m}Ag$ (657.75 keV, half-life 249.76 days). A new calibration method of determining the optimized ROI was developed, and its effectiveness in accurately characterizing $^{137}Cs$ and eliminating the interference was further ascertained.

  • STUMPS has been widely used for built-in self-test of scan design with multiple scan chains. In the STUMPS architecture, there is very high correlation between the bit sequences in the adjacent scan chains. This correlation causes circuits lower the fault coverage. In order to solve this problem, an extra combinational circuit block(phase shifter) is placed between the LFSR and the inputs of STUMPS architecture despite the hardware overhead increase. This paper introduces an efficient test pattern generation technique and built-in self-test architecture for sequential circuits with multiple scan chains. The proposed test pattern generator is not used the input of LFSR and phase shifter, hence hardware overhead can be reduced and sufficiently high fault coverage is obtained. Only several XOR gates in each scan chain are required to modify the circuit for the scan BIST, so that the design is very simple.

  • Background/Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the diagnostic value of i-scan in the differential diagnosis of oral cavity leukoplakia based on visualization of abnormal vascular features. Materials & Methods: Thirty- one patients with oral cavity leukoplakia were enrolled in the study. Images of their oral cavity obtained using conventional white light endoscopy and an i-scan-enhanced endoscopy (Pentax DEFINA EPK-3000 Video Processors, with Pentax VNLJ10) were reviewed. The microvascular features of the lesions and vascular changes were analyzed and the results were compared with the histopathologic diagnosis. Results: Among the 31 oral cavity leukoplakia patients, 8 (25.8%) patients revealed hyperkeratosis, 10 (31.2%) low-grade dysplasia, 5 (16.2%) high-grade dysplasia and 8 (25.8%) invasive squamous cell carcinoma on histopathologic examination. Using i-scan-enhanced endoscopy, we could found abnormal vascular change with neoplastic neoangiogenesis in most high-grade dysplasia or invasive cancer in oral cavity. (high-grade dysplasia: 4/5 [80.0%], and invasive squamous cell carcinoma: 7/8 [87.5%]). Conclusion: i-scan-enhanced endoscopy could be a useful optical technique for the diagnosis of oral cavity leukoplakia. Our results suggest that i-scan may be a promising diagnostic tool in the early detection of suspected oral mucosal lesion.

  • Compressed sensing can be used to reduce scan time or to enhance spatial resolution in MRI. It is now recognized that compressed sensing works well in reconstructing magnitude images if the sampling mask and the sparsifying transform are well chosen. Phase images also play important roles in MRI particularly in chemical shift imaging and magnetic resonance electrical impedance tomography (MREIT). We reconstruct MRI phase images using the compressed sensing technique. Through computer simulation and real MRI experiments, we reconstructed phase images using the compressed sensing technique and we compared them with the ones reconstructed by conventional Fourier reconstruction technique. As compared to conventional Fourier reconstruction with the same number of phase encoding steps, compressed sensing shows better performance in terms of mean squared phase error and edge preservation. We expect compressed sensing can be used to reduce the scan time or to enhance spatial resolution of MREIT.

  • In this paper, an interleaved spiral scan imaging is investigated for an ultra fast MR imaging. The interleaved spiral technique has relative advantage over single shot spiral imaging with improved resolution and less inhomogeneity-related artifact. An improved reconstruction algorithm is devised with DC-offset correction. Some preliminary experimental results are shown at 1.0 Tesla and 3.0 Tesla whole body MRI system.

  • Purpose : Conventional radiation therapy Portal images gives low contrast images. The purpose of this study was to enhance image contrast of a linacgram by developing a low-cost image processing method. Materials and Methods : Chest linacgram was obtained by irradiating humanoid Phantom and scanned using Diagnostic-Pro scanner for image processing. Several types of scan method were used in scanning. These include optical density scan, histogram equalized scan, linear histogram based scan, linear histogram independent scan, linear optical density scan, logarithmic scan, and power square root scan. The histogram distribution of the scanned images were plotted and the ranges of the gray scale were compared among various scan types. The scanned images were then transformed to the gray window by pallette fitting method and the contrast of the reprocessed portal images were evaluated for image improvement. Portal images of patients were also taken at various anatomic sites and the images were processed by Gray Scale Expansion (GSE) method. The patient images were analyzed to examine the feasibility of using the GSE technique in clinic. Results :The histogram distribution showed that minimum and maximum gray scale ranges of 3192 and 21940 were obtained when the image was scanned using logarithmic method and square root method, respectively. Out of 256 gray scale, only 7 to 30$\%$ of the steps were used. After expanding the gray scale to full range, contrast of the portal images were improved. Experiment peformed with patient image showed that improved identification of organs were achieved by GSE in portal images of knee joint, head and neck, lung, and pelvis. Conclusion :Phantom study demonstrated that the GSE technique improved image contrast of a linacgram. This indicates that the decrease in image quality resulting from the dual exposure, could be improved by expanding the gray scale. As a result, the improved technique will make it possible to compare the digitally reconstructed radiographs (DRR) and simulation image for evaluating the patient positioning error.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the factors that affect the patient's exposure dose during the abdominal CT scan using the bolus tracking technique, and reducing the radiation exposure to the patient during the abdominal CT scan using the bolus tracking technique by adjusting the delay time according to the corresponding factor. The experiment was divided into two parts, and the first experiment was conducted with 300 patients There were 188 males and 112 females, and their average age was 58±12.18(19~85). In the second experiment, 150 subjects (100 males and 50 females) who were undergoing their follow-up examination among the first experiment subjects, and the difference in dose before and after was compared by applying the delay time according to the influencing factor. As a result of the first experiment, there was a relationship between the arrival time of the contrast media and the heart rate, and it was found that the arrival time decreased as the heart rate increased for both men and women. As a result of the second experiment, the average dose of CTDIvol and DLP before/after applying the delay time according to the heart rate decreased 4.98 mGy and 5.33 mGy·cm in the male group, and 3.54 mGy and 3.88 mGy·cm in the female group. By applying proper delay time according to the patient's heart rate during abdominal CT scan with the bolus tracking technique, the radiation exposure dose of the patient can be reduced.

  • Delay defects on I/O pads, interconnections of a board, or interconnections among embedded cores can not be tested with the current IEEE 1149.1 boundary scan design. This paper introduces a simple design technique which slightly modifies the TAP controller to test delay defects at system speed. Experimental design shows that the technique proposed requires much less area than a commercial approach.

  • A Plate type pipe is used for heat exchange in radiator of a vehicle. The pipe has several rooms through which water flows and heat is dissipated into outside . In the case that there are small holes, cracks or some scratches on the plate, the radiators lost their functions due to Leakage. This may result in overheating of engine in a car. Thus, we need to perform the entire inspection of the plate type pipe in advance before assembling the radiator. In manufacturing process of the plate type pipe, the productive speed is very high and that may be performed continuously. So, there is no room to perform the outlook inspection by typical image processing techniques. This paper proposes a new method to inspect the outlook surface of the plate type pipe automatically with high speed. Especially, the sequential processing technique of an algorithm which detects defects on the surfaces of the plate type pipe is proposed for line scan camera which captures line image. To evaluate the inspection performance, a series of experiments is performed.
