Methods : We investigated one patient suffering from diplopia which was admitted to Kyung-Ju O.M. hospital from April 16, 2004 to May 22, 2004. We treated one patient by Scalp Acupunture therapy. Results : 1. We operated Scalp Acupunture on the sight-area(視區) 2. In the result of treatment, the diplopia is distinguished almost. Conclusions : The scalp acupunture therapy is effective of diplopia patient, but we thought that it needed to prove effects of Scalp Acupunture therapy for efficient application with more clinical cases.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine how Bang's Scalp Acupunture affects the aphasia in stroke patients. Subject was 1 stroke patient who was admitted at Daejon University Oriental Hospital. The degree of aphasia was measured by the Daegu Aphasia Battery. The result showed that a comparative study of pre Bang's Scalp Acupunture & post Bang's Scalp Acupunture, aphasia was improved. On the basis of one case result, Bang's Scalp Acupunture is effective in treating poststroke aphasia. Serial studies must be done and requested in the aspects of improvement contrast, improvement durancy and the improvement difference on the healing period.

  • Method : We consider some books on scalp acupuncture and reports of scalp acupuncture published in korea, and survey motor cortex stimulation. The results are as follows. Result : Scalp acupuncture was based on theory of meridian pathway and functional cerebral cortex. Scalp acupunctur was used especially for CVA(Cerebral Vascular Accident) out of cerebral diseases many time. and this acupuncture shows better effect when used with different treatments than when used singly. Motor cortex stimulation is brothers to scalp acupuncture, and give medical treatment on neuropathic pain. Conclusion : The possibility of curing illness through scalp acupuncture have been shown factually and clinically. Based upon such facts, it is regarded that further scientific research along with additional clinical approaches involving scalp acupuncture should be performed.

  • Objective : This study is designed in order to evaluate the therapeutic effect of Scalp Acupuncture and Do-ma Acupuncture related with Governer Vessel(Dok) and Bladder Meridian(Chok-taeyang) on acute low back pain Methods : We investigated 10 patients suffering from acute low back pain were treated from Mach. 1st 2005 to Jun. 30th 2005. 10 patients, were diagnosed only straightened curvature on lateral view of lumbar spine X-ray and get Scalp acupunture related with Governer Vessel(Dok) and Bladder Meridian(Chok-taeyang) and Do-ma acupuncture. Pain rating score(PRS) was used to assess the pain for its intensity, frequency, duration, and aggravating factors. And visual analog scale(VAS) was used, too. Results : Both Scalp acupunture related with Governer Vessel(Dok) and Bladder Meridian(Chok-taeyang) and Do-ma acupuncture therapy showed good effect on acute low back pain. It was proved by the difference between PRS and VAS checked before treatment and what checked after treatment. In the evaluation of treatment effect, Exellent was 2(20%), Good was 5(50%), Moderate was 3(30%), Poor was 0(0%). Conclusion : The therapeutic effect of Scalp Acupuncture and Do-ma Acupuncture on acute low back pain can be recommended as a useful therapy to treat acute low back pain.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to report the patient with radial nerve palsy, who improved by oriental medical treatment. Methods : The patient was managed by bee venom aqua-acupuncture, sclp acupuncture and herbal medicine. We took picture of the patients's wrist and checked the power of muscles. Results : After 4 week treatment, the movement and power of wrist was restored of nearly normal range. also the numbness of hand was removed. Combined oriental medical treatment can treat radial nerve palsy earlier than other methods. Conclusions : The results suggest that combination of bee venom aqua-acupuncture, scalp acupuncture and herbal medicine is good method for treatment of radial nerve palsy. But further studies are required to concretely prove the effectiveness of this methods for treating radial nerve palsy.

  • The etiology of alopecia areata has not been fully elucidated, but autoimmune theory is further strengthened by the increased association of alopecia areata with a number of autoimmune disorders and by the increased prevalence of organ-specific autoantibodies in alopecia areata. Alopecia areata was called 'Yupung(油風)', 'Quijidu(귀지두)', 'Ballak(髮落)' etc. We experienced a patient who had been alopecia areata for ten years. He had been treated alopecia areata with herbal acupunture( mixed CF and JsD). almost entire scalp had been replaced with new termal hairs.

  • This study aimed to investigate effect of scalp acupuncture (SA) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) intervention on neuromotor function in photothrombotic cerebral infarction (PCI) rat model. Sixty male SD rats were used. PCI was induced on M1 cortex of right frontal lobe. SA was performed at the Qianding (GV21), Xuanli (GB6) acupoints of ipsilesional M1. Low-frequency rTMS was delivered to contralesional M1. All rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: group A, normal (n, 15); group B, PCI without any stimulation intervention (n, 15); group C, PCI with SA (n, 15); group D, PCI with rTMS (n, 15). Rota-rod test and Ladder rung walking test (LWT) were done weekly for 8 weeks after PCI. SA or rTMS was started from post-PCI 4th day as protocol for 8 weeks. H/E stain and IHC were done. Western blot and qRT-PCR study were performed for MAP2 and BDNF from ipsilesional M1 peri-infarction tissue. Brain MRI study was conducted to quantify the volume of cerebral infarction. As a result, left forelimb and hindlimb function significantly improved more in group C and D than control group, with expressed more BDNF and MAP2. And brain MRI showed focal infarction of right M1 after PCI, and infarction volume progressively decreased in group C and D than group B from post-PCI 5th to 8th week. SA or rTMS was more effective than no intervention group on neuromotor function of PCI rat model. The functional recovery was associated with stimulation intervention-related neurogenesis.
