In order to develope a mobile-based greenhouse energy calculation program, firstly, the overall thermal transmittance of 10 types of major covers and 16 types of insulation materials were measured. In addition, to estimate the overall thermal transmittance when the cover and insulation materials were installed in double or triple layers, 24 combinations of double installations and 59 combinations of triple installations were measured using the hotbox. Also, the overall thermal transmittance value for a single material and the thermal resistance value were used to calculate the overall thermal transmittance value at the time of multi-layer installation of covering and insulating materials, and the linear regression equation was derived to correct the error with the measured values. As a result of developing the model for estimating thermal transmittance when installing multiple layers of coverings and insulating materials based on the value of overall thermal transmittance of a single-material, the model evaluation index was 0.90 (good when it is 0.5 or more), indicating that the estimated value was very close to the actual value. In addition, as a result of the on-site test, it was evaluated that the estimated heat saving rate was smaller than the actual value with a relative error of 2%. Based on these results, a mobile-based greenhouse energy calculation program was developed that was implemented as an HTML5 standard web-based mobile web application and was designed to work with various mobile device and PC browsers with N-Screen support. It had functions to provides the overall thermal transmittance(heating load coefficient) for each combination of greenhouse coverings and thermal insulation materials and to evaluate the energy consumption during a specific period of the target greenhouse. It was estimated that an energy-saving greenhouse design would be possible with the optimal selection of coverings and insulation materials according to the region and shape of the greenhouse.

Due to climate change, population growth, and economic development, the demand for water in the urban water system (UWS) and the energy required for water use constantly increase. Therefore, beyond the traditional method of considering only the water sector, the Nexus approach, which considers synergies and trade-offs between the water and energy sectors, has begun to draw attention. In previous researches, the Nexus methodology was used to demonstrate that the UWS is an energy-intensive system, analyze the water-energy efficiency relationship surrogated by energy intensity, and identify climate (long-term climate change, drought, type), geographic characteristics (topography, flat ratio, location), system characteristics (total supply water amount, population density, pipeline length), and operational management level (water network pressure, leakage rate, water saving) effects on the UWS. Through this, it was possible to suggest the direction of policies and institutions to UWS managers. However, there was a limit to establishing and implementing specific action plans. This study built the energy intensity matrix of the UWS, quantified the impact of city conditions, external influences, and operational management levels on the UWS using the water-energy Nexus model, and introduced water-energy efficiency criteria. With this, UWS managers will be able to derive strategies and action plans for efficient operation management of the UWS and evaluate suitability and validity after implementation.
To control the coating thickness of zinc in the process of continuous hot-dip galvanizing, it is known from early day that the gas wiping through an air knife system is the most effective because of the obtainable of uniformity of coating thickness, possibility of thin coating, working ability in high speed and simplicity of control. But, the gas wiping using in the galvanizing process brings about a problem of splashing from the strip edge for a certain high speed of coating. And, it is known that the problem of splashing is caused mainly by the existence of separation bubble at the neighbor of the strip surface. In theses connections, in the present study, we proposed two kinds of air knife systems having the same expansion rate of nozzle, and the jet structures and coating thicknesses from a conventional and new proposed nozzles are compared. In numerical analysis, the governing equations consisted of two-dimensional time dependent Navier-Stokes equations, standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model to solve turbulence stress and so on are employed. As a result, it is found that it had better to use the constant rate nozzle from the point view of the energy saving to obtain the same coating thickness. Also, to reduce the size of separation bubble and to enhance the cutting ability at the strip, it is recommendable to use an air knife having the constant expansion rate nozzle.

But, the gas wiping using in the galvanizing process brings about a problem of splashing from the strip edge for a certain high speed of coating. Also, it is known that the problem of splashing directly depends upon the galvanizing speed and nozzle stagnation pressure. In theses connections, in the present study, we proposed two kinds of air knife systems having the same expansion rate of nozzle, and the jet structures and coating thicknesses from a conventional and new proposed nozzles are compared. In numerical analysis, the governing equations consisted of two-dimensional time dependent Navier-Stokes equations, standard k-e turbulence model to solve turbulence stress and so on are employed. As a result, it is found that it had better to use the constant rate nozzle from the point view of the energy saving to obtain the same coating thickness. Also, to enhance the cutting ability at the strip, it is advisable to use an air knife with the constant expansion rate nozzle.
To compare the sensor performance of AE leak diagnosis system which can measure valve leak conditions, AE activities such as RMS voltage level, AE signal trend, leak rate degree according to AE database, FFT spectrum were measured on valve of the simulated test system for power plant. AE activities were recorded and analyzed from various operating conditions including different temperature, pressure difference, valve size and fluid using both piezoelectric acoustic emission sensor and Pb-Free acoustic emission sensor. The results of this study are utilized to select the type of sensors, the frequency band for filtering and thereby to improve the signal-to-noise ratio for diagnosis or monitoring of valves in operation. As the final result of application study above, portable type leak diagnosis system by AE was developed. The outcome of the study can be definitely applied as a means of the diagnosis or monitoring system for energy saving and prevention of accident for power plant valve.

In recent years, Smart Water Grid (SWG) concept has globally emerged over the last decade and also gained significant recognition in South Korea. Especially, there has been growing interest in water demand forecast and this has led to various studies regarding energy saving and improvement of water supply reliability. In this regard, this study aims to develop a nonlinear ensemble model for hourly water demand forecasting which allow us to estimate uncertainties across different model classes. The concepts was demonstrated through application to observed from water plant (A) in the South Korea. Various statistics (e.g. the efficiency coefficient, the correlation coefficient, the root mean square error, and a maximum error rate) were evaluated to investigate model efficiency. The ensemble based model with an cross-validate prediction procedure showed better predictability for water demand forecasting at different temporal resolutions. In particular, the performance of the ensemble model on hourly water demand data showed promising results against other individual prediction schemes.

As the existing school building power consumption is expressed by total power consumption, in the view of energy saving is disadvantage. The the power consumption of school building is divided as cooling, heating, lighting and others. The cooling power consumption, heating power consumption, lighting power consumption can be calculated using real total power consumption that gained from Korea Electric Power Corporation(KEPCO). The power consumption for cooling and heating can be calculated using heat transmittance, wall area and floor area, and for lighting is calculated by artificial lighting calculation. but this calculation methods is difficult for laymen. This study was carried out in order to establish the regression equation for cooling power consumption, heating power consumption, lighting power consumption and other power consumption in school building. In order to verify the validity of the regression equation, it is compared regression equation results and calculation results based on real power consumption. As the results, difference between regression result and calculation results for cooling and heating power consumption showed 0.6% and 3.6%.

This paper suggests a data gathering scheme using dynamic branch tree in wireless sensor networks. A mobile sink gathers data from each sensor node using a dynamic data gathering tree rooted at the mobile sink node. As the sink moves, a tree that has multiple branch is formed and changed dynamically as with the position of the sink node. A hop-based scope filter and a restricted flooding scheme of the tree are also suggested. Simulation results show that the proposed data gathering scheme has better results in data arrival rate, the end-to-end delay and energy saving characteristics compared with the previous scheme.
The measuring apparatus such as heat meter is legally obliged to be installed and used for heat rating with heat or flow rate in residential buildings in Korea. There are two kinds of apparatus to measure heat consumed at each households, i.e., heat meter and hot water flowmeter. Contrast to the most of buildings with hot water flowmeter well being used for rating, heat meters have been used only 42.6% in the buildings with central heating system. But there is a critical problem in the course of using hot water flowmeter for heat rating, yielding distorted and unfair result which is different from the real value of heat supplied. Experiments with several parameters were carried out in this study to analyze this phenomenon quantively and alternative methods were proposed for rational heat rating.
