  • In this paper, by applying deep learning, one of the A.I. techniques, through angle information, which is optical observation data generated when observing satellites at observatories, distance information from observatories is learned to predict range data, thereby increasing the precision of satellite's orbit determination. To this end, we generated observational data from GMAT, reduced the learning data error of deep learning through preprocessing of the generated observational data, and conducted deep learning through MATLAB. Based on the predicted distance information from learning, trajectory determination was performed using an extended Kalman filter, one of the filtering techniques for trajectory determination, through GMAT. The reliability of the model was verified by comparing and analyzing the orbital determination with angular information without distance information and the orbital determination result with predicted distance information from the model.

  • The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is undergoing dramatic changes. Nowadays, much more satellites are transmitting navigation data at more frequencies. A multi-GNSS analysis is performed to improve the positioning accuracy by processing combined observations from different GNSS. The multi-GNSS technique can improve significantly the positioning accuracy. In this paper, we present a combined Global Positioning System (GPS), the GLObal NAvigation Satellite System (GLONASS), the China Satellite Navigation System (BeiDou), and the Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) standard point positioning (SPP) method to exploit all currently available GNSS observations at Mokpo (MKPO) station in South Korea. We also investigate the multi-GNSS data recorded at MKPO reference station. The positioning accuracy is compared with several combinations of the satellite systems. Because of the different frequencies and signal structure of the different GNSS, intersystem biases (ISB) parameters for code observations have to be estimated together with receiver clocks in multi-GNSS SPP. We also present GPS/GLONASS and GPS/BeiDou ISB values estimated by the daily average.

  • In this study, we examined a morningside Pi2 pulsation, with a non-substorm signature, that occurred in very quiet geomagnetic conditions (Kp = 0) at 05:38 UT on December 8, 2012, using data obtained by Van Allen Probes A and B (VAP-A and VAP-B, respectively) and at a ground station. Using 1 sec resolution vector magnetic field data, we measured the X-component of the pulsation from the Abu Simbel ground station (L = 1.07, LT = UT +2 hr, where LT represents local time) in Egypt. At the time of the Pi2 event, Abu Simbel and VAP-A (L = 3.3) were in the morning sector (07:38 LT and 07:59 MLT, respectively, where MLT represents magnetic local time), and VAP-B was in the postmidnight sector (04:18 MLT and L = 5.7). VAP-A and VAP-B observed oscillations in the compressional magnetic field component (Bz), which were in close agreement with the X-component measurements of the Pi2 pulsation that were made at Abu Simbel. The oscillations observed by the satellites and on the ground were in phase. Thus, we concluded that the observed morningside Pi2 pulsation was caused by the cavity resonance mode rather than by ionospheric current systems.

  • The solar images are taken by the CCD detectors of the Sun monitoring satellites. The solar images are constructed after removing the traces of cosmic rays on the raw CCD data files. Thus, while applying the method of removing the cosmic rays traces, we can estimate the cosmic rays flux by counting the number of traces. The cosmic ray flux in the steady state might be the sum of the solar and galactic cosmic rays. However, the abrupt change in the flux could be assumed to be originated from the Sun. Therefore, we can identify the solar origins of the sudden solar cosmic ray flux changes from the phenomena shown in the processed solar images taken by SOHO/EIT. As the results, the estimated cosmic ray flux in the steady state is the anti-correlated with sunspot numbers, which shows the minima in cosmic ray flux at the solar cycle maxima defined by the sunspot numbers. The profiles of estimated solar cosmic ray associated with the ground level enhancements have the significant increase in the cosmic ray flux with good correlation. Thus, the solar images are valuable data useful in estimating the solar cosmic ray long term and transient flux variations.

  • Recently, the enormous increase in the volume of remotely sensed data is being acquired by an ever-growing number of earth observation satellites. The combining of diversely sourced imagery together is an important requirement in many applications such as data fusion, city modeling and object recognition. Aerial triangulation is a procedure to reconstruct object space from imagery. However, since the different kinds of imagery have their own sensor model, characteristics, and resolution, the previous approach in aerial triangulation (or georeferencing) is performed on a sensor model separately. This study evaluated the advantages of aerial triangulation of large number of images from multi-sensors simultaneously. The incorporated multi-sensors are frame, push broom, and whisky broom cameras. The limits and problems of push-broom or whisky broom sensor models can be compensated by combined triangulation with frame imagery and vise versa. The reconstructed object space from multi-sensor triangulation is more accurate than that from a single model. Experiments conducted in this study show the more accurately reconstructed object space from multi-sensor triangulation.

  • Space Physics Sensor onboard the KOMPSAT-1, which was launched at 1999, had transmitted ionospheric data during the solar maximum from June 2000 to August 2001. When the KOMPSAT-1 has passed the equatorial region, equatorial bubbles, in which the electron density abruptly decreases, had frequently been detected. Statistical analysis of the data obtained during the entire operational period shows equatorial bubbles frequently occur across the Atlantic region where the geomagnetic field strength is weak. Also, equatorial bubbles occur more frequently for lower Kp index. The results are in good agreement with the previous observations by DMSP satellites and radio experiments at the Peruvian sector The correlation between electron density and the electron temperature shows various behaviors from event to event.

  • This paper establised GPS network consist of 75km average baseline lengths over Jeollanamdo and Jeollabukdo nine point station and fixed Gwangju point station. We quantitavely analyzed how much precision of the baseline determination is improved for GPS survey when using the precise eqhemeris instead of tile broadcast ephemeris of GPS satellites. The observed data for each baseline were processed two times with the same conditions alternately changing the broadcast and the precise ephemeris. The standard deviations from the repeated measurments for each baseline ara compared between the results of using the broadcast ephemeris and the precise ephemeris. As the results, the precision, stability and reliability of the baseline determination using the precise ephemeris is better than those of using the broadcast ephemeris for all baselines.

  • One of the most important things for quality to meet ship-production schedule is an accuracy control. A ship is assembled by welding through whole production process, so it is important that loss by correction will not happen as much as possible by using some engineering skills like reverse design, reverse setting and margin for thermal shrinkage. These efforts are a quite effective in fabrication stages, but not in erection stages. If a ship block which consists of common steel is exposed to directional solar radiation, its dimensional accuracy will change high as time by its thermal expansion coefficient. Therefore, the measuring work would be often done at dawn or evening even with having a very accurate device. In this study, an FE analysis method is developed to solve this problem. It can change measured data affected by solar thermal distortion to ones not, even though ship-block is measured at an arbitrary time. It will use the time when measuring, the direction of block and the weather record by satellites. It is confirmed by a comparison between measured data of a ship-block and the result by suggested analysis method. Furthermore, a pre-processing system is also developed for fast application of the suggested analysis method.

  • Remote sensing techniques using satellites or the scanning weather radars depend mostly on the presence of clouds or precipitation, and leave the extensive regions of clear air unobserved. But wind profilers provide the most direct measurements of mesoscale vertical air motion in the troposphere, even in the context of heavy precipitation. In this paper, the precipitation events during the Changma period was classified into 4 precipitation types - stratiform, mixed stratiform/ convective, deep convective, and shallow convective. The parameters for the classification of analysis are the vertical structure of reflectivity, Doppler velocity, and spectral width measured with the wind profiler at Haenam for a three-year period (2003-2005). In addition, the synoptic fields and total amount of precipitation were analyzed using the Global Final Analyses (FNL) data and the Global Precipitation Climatology Project (GPCP) data. During the Changma period, the results show that the stratiform type was dominant under the moist-neutral atmosphere in 2003, whereas the deep convective type was under the moist unstable condition in 2004. The stratiform type was no less popular than the deep convective type among four seasons because the moist neutral layer was formed by the convergence between the upper-level jet and the low-level jet, and by the moisture transport along the western rim of the North Pacific subtropical anticyclone.
