End-to-End Soft QoS Approach for IMS-based Integrated Satellite/Terrestrial Network Architecture

  • The satellite networks provide global coverage. The integration of terrestrial networks with a satellite network is the most attractive approach to develop a global communication system. The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is intended to be the system that will merge the internet with the telecom world. A user with a dual-mode terminal can access both the satellite network and terrestrial network. The seamless handoff between two networks and a user's QoS level is the major issue concerning this integration. In this paper, we propose IMS-based satellite/terrestrial integrated network architecture for a global communication system. Based on the proposed architecture, an inter-network handoff and end-to-end soft QoS procedure is discussed. Our proposed soft QoS scheme is also analyzed to calculate the number of rejected calls.

  • A communications satellite system placed in three-Lagrange points, $L_3$, $L_4$ and $L_5$, of the restricted three-body problem in Earth-Moon system is proposed in this paper. LEO satellite constellation has been another choice of communications system. The proposed system which is alternatives of limited geostationary orbit resources, has some weak points such as long distance from the Earth, relatively expensive launch cost, long delay time, more required power, and so on. It has good points like less efforts (fuel) for station keeping, less eclipses, etc. This system has limitations for applications to provide commercial services but it is still some attractive points.

  • This paper presents an adaptive satellite communication systems to adapt channel environment. High performance coding and modulation techniques are applied to poor channel condition, otherwise, bandwidth efficient coding and modulation techniques are applied to good channel condition to obtain high transmission rate.

  • A K-band GaAs MMIC receiver module has been developed using 0.15 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ HEMT technology process. It incorporates two front end low noise amplifiers, a double balanced diode mixer, and filters. The RF input frequency ranges 20.1 to 21 GHz and the IF output 1.1 to 2 GHz. Test results show an overall conversion gain of more than 27 dB, and less than a 2.2 dB noise figure. The image-rejection ratio greater than 21 dB has been obtained. The isolation between RF and IF ports is better than 27 dB, and between LO and IF is more than 50 dB.

  • In this paper, due to the congestion the radio spectrum, frequency bands are shared among the satellite communication system. Therefore for satisfactory we have to design and predict with reasonable accuracy the level of interference that might exist among them, Interference among the satellite communication systems depends on many factors such as climate, radio frequency, time percentage of interest, distance and path topography, propagation delay time. This paper suggest design method of Low-Orbit satellite communication and calculates the field-of view of satellite, for the communication era using LEO. In addition, performs performance evaluation on the basis of link margine.

Feasibility Study of Communication Access via Iridium Constellation for Small-Scale Magnetospheric Ionospheric Plasma Experiment Mission

  • The small-scale magnetospheric and ionospheric plasma experiment (SNIPE) is a mission initiated by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) in 2017 and comprises four 6U-sized nano-satellites (Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute Satellite-1, KASISat-1) flying in formations. The main goal of the SNIPE mission is to investigate the space environment in low Earth orbit at 500-km. Because Iridium & GPS Board (IGB) is installed on the KASISat-1, a communication simulation is required to analyze the contact number and the duration. In this study, communication simulations between the Iridium satellite network and KASISat-1 are performed using STK Pro (System Tool Kit Pro Ver 11.2) from the AGI (Analytical Graphics, Inc.). The contact number and durations were analyzed by each orbit and date. The analysis shows that the average access number per day is 38.714 times, with an average of 2.533 times per orbit for a week. Furthermore, on average, the Iridium satellite communication is linked for 70.597 min daily. Moreover, 4.625 min is the average duration of an individual orbit.

  • 비정지궤도 위성통신링크에서는 지표상의 단말기 또는 지구국 등에 대한 상대적인 위성의 이동으로 인하여 제공되는 위성 앙각이 시간에 따라 연속적으로 변한다. 따라서 비정지궤도 위성을 이용한 통신링크에서는 단말기가 일정 위치에 있을지라도 수신 신호가 받는 페이딩의 영향은 연속적으로 변한다. 본 논문에서는 비정지궤도 이동위성통신링크 사에서 발생하는 페이딩 특성을 전파 환경에 무관한 일반적인 통계적 함수로 모델을 정하고, 다양한 전파 환경에 대한 모델의 파라미터를 앙각의 함수로 설정하여, 상용 이동위성 통신 시스템의 페이딩 마진 데이터를 이용하여 파라미터 계수를 추출한다. 또한 구현된 모델을 이용하여 각 전파 환경에 따른 페이딩 특성을 분석한다. 분석된 결과는 이동위성통신 채널의 전송방식에 대한 성능 분석 및 페이딩으로 인한 신호 왜곡의 보상 알고리즘 개발에 활용가능할 것이다.

  • 차기 위성의 통신망은 단말의 수가 증가하고 네트워크의 구조가 분산화 및 대형화되고 있는 추세이며, 위성 통신을 이용하는 트래픽이 증가하고 빈번하게 발생하고 있다. 위성 통신과 같이 다양한 통신 장비들이 동적으로 도메인을 형성하고 데이터를 빈번하게 주고받는 통신 환경에서는 서버/클라이언트 방식의 데이터 교환보다는 데이터 중심 발간/구독 방식의 데이터 교환이 더욱 효과적이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 한정된 위성 자원을 효율적으로 관리하기 위한 분산 망관리시스템에 데이터 중심 발간/구독 통신 기술인 DDS 표준을 적용하기 위하여 DDS의 성능을 분석하였으며, 기존의 서버/클라이언트 방식으로 데이터를 교환하는 SNMP와 비교 연구하였다. 비교 연구를 위해 OPNET을 사용하였으며 네트워크 계층 관점의 성능 중심으로 수행하였다.
