Nonlinear stability of smart nonlocal magneto-electro-thermo-elastic beams with geometric imperfection and piezoelectric phase effects

  • In this paper, analysis of thermal post-buckling behaviors of sandwich nanobeams with two layers of multi-phase magneto-electro-thermo-elastic (METE) composites have been presented considering geometric imperfection effects. Multi-phase METE material is composed form piezoelectric and piezo-magnetic constituents for which the material properties can be controlled based on the percentages of the constituents. Nonlinear governing equations of sandwich nanobeam are derived based on nonlocal elasticity theory together with classic thin beam model and an analytical solution is provided. It will be shown that post-buckling behaviors of sandwich nanobeam in thermo-electro-magnetic field depend on the constituent's percentages. Buckling temperature of sandwich nanobeam is also affected by nonlocal scale factor, magnetic field intensity and electrical voltage.

틸팅열차의 샌드위치 복합재 차체 구조물에 대한 충돌안전도 평가 및 향상방안 연구 (A Study on the Crashworthiness Evaluation and Performance Improvement of Tilting Train Carbody Structure made of Sandwich Composites)

  • 본 논문은 샌드위치 복합재 틸팅열차의 충돌안전도 평가 및 성능 향상방안에 대해 서술하고 있다. 차체 구조물에 적용된 샌드위치 복합재는 알루미늄 하니컴 심재와 유리섬유 및 카본/에폭시 적층 복합재 면재로 이루어져있다. 충돌해석은 외연유한 요소 해석 프로그램인 LS-DYNA3D를 이용하였다. 이때, 유한요소모델링과 충돌해석 계산시간의 절약을 위하여 3차원 유한요소모델과 1차원 등가 모델을 적용하였다. 틸팅열차의 충돌 조건은 철도안전법에 명시하고 있는 4가지 충돌사고 시나리오를 고려하여 해석을 수행하였다. 충돌해석 결과 시나리오-2를 제외한 나머지 충돌 시나리오에서 성능 요구조건을 만족하였다. 충돌 시나리오-2의 충돌안전도 요구조건을 충족하기 위하여 전두부의 적층복합재 커버와 금속프레임의 강성 향상방안을 제안하였으며, 결과적으로 충돌 시나리오-2의 요구조건을 만족하였다.

Vibration behavior of partially bio-sourced sandwich panel with orthogonally stiffened core: Analytical and experiment study

  • By the present paper, both experimental and analytical models have been proposed to study the vibration behavior of partially bio-sourced sandwich panel with orthogonally stiffened core. For a variable mass fraction of Alfa fibers from 5% to 15%, impregnated in a Medapoxy STR resin, this panel were manufactured by molding the orthogonally stiffened core then attached it with both skins. Using simply supported boundary conditions, a free vibration test was carried out using an impact hammer for predicting the natural frequencies, the mode shapes and the damping coefficient versus the fibers content. In addition, an analytical model based on the Higher order Shear Deformation Theory (HSDT) was developed to predict natural frequencies and the mode shapes according to Navier's solution. From the experimental test, we have found that the frequency increases with the increase in the mass fraction of the fibers until 10%. Beyond this fraction, the frequencies give relatively lower values. For the analytical model, variation of the natural frequencies increased considerably with side-to-thickness ratio (a/H) and equivalent thickness of the core to thickness of the face (hs/h). We concluded that, the vibration behavior was significantly influenced by geometrical and mechanical properties of the partially bio-sourced sandwich panel.

샌드위치 복합재 적용 자동무인경전철 차체 구조물의 구조 안전성 및 충돌 특성 평가 연구 (An Evaluation of Structural Integrity and Crashworthiness of Automatic Guideway Transit(AGT) Vehicle made of Sandwich Composites)

  • 본 논문은 샌드위치 복합재가 적용된 자동무인경전철 차체 구조물의 구조 안전성 및 충돌 안전성 결과에 대해 서술하고 있다. 차체 구조물에 적용된 샌드위치 복합재는 알루미늄 하니컴 심재와 WR580/NF4000 유리섬유/에폭시 적층 복합재 면재로 이루어져 있다. 차체 구조물에 적용되는 적층 복합재 면재에 대해 기계적 시험을 통하여 물성을 획득하였고, 직교 이방성 특성을 갖는 하니컴 심재의 물성은 유효등가손상모델을 적용하였다. ANSYS v11.0을 이용한 유한요소 해석은 JIS E 1105 기준과 ASCE 21-98 기준에 따라서 자동무인경전철 차체의 구조 안전성을 평가하였다. 충돌해석은 외연유한요소 해석 프로그램인 LS-DYNA3D를 이용하였다. 충돌 조건은 강체벽에 10km/h의 속도로 정면충돌 사고를 모사하였다. 또한, 수성된 Chang-Chang 파손기준시은 충돌 후 복합재 구조물의 파손 모드를 평가하는데 추천된다.

  • Additive manufacturing or 3D printing is a new manufacturing process and its application is getting growth. However, the product qualities such as mechanical strength, dimensional accuracy, and surface quality are low compared with conventional manufacturing process such as molding and machining. In this study not only mechanical characteristics of polymer sandwich panel having three dimensional core layer but also mechanical characteristics of core layer itself were analyzed. The shape of three dimensional core layer was pyramidal kagome structure. This core layer was fabricated by two different methods, injection molding with PP resin and material jetting type 3D printing with acrylic photo curable resin. The material for face sheets in the polymer sandwich panel was PP. Maximum load, stiffness, and elongation at break were examined for core layers fabricated by two different methods and also assembled polymer sandwich panels. 3D printed core showed brittle behavior, but the brittleness decreased in polymer sandwich panel containing 3D printed core. The availability of 3D printed article for the three dimensional core layer of polymer sandwich panel was verified.

Finite element based dynamic analysis of multilayer fibre composite sandwich plates with interlayer delaminations

  • Although the aircraft industry was the first to use fibre composites, now they are increasingly used in a range of structural applications such as flooring, decking, platforms and roofs. Interlayer delamination is a major failure mode which threatens the reliability of composite structures. Delamination can grow in size under increasing loads with time and hence leads to severe loss of structural integrity and stiffness reduction. Delamination reduces the natural frequency and as a consequence may result in resonance. Hence, the study of the effects of delamination on the free vibration behaviour of multilayer composite structures is imperative. The focus of this paper is to develop a 3D FE model and investigate the free vibration behaviour of fibre composite multilayer sandwich panels with interlayer delaminations. A series of parametric studies are conducted to assess the influence of various parameters of concern, using a commercially available finite element package. Additionally, selected points in the delaminated region are connected appropriately to simulate bolting as a remedial measure to fasten the delamination region in the aim of reducing the effects of delamination. First order shear deformation theory based plate elements have been used to model each sandwich layer. The findings suggest that the delamination size and the end fixity of the plate are the most important factors responsible for stiffness reduction due to delamination damage in composite laminates. It is also revealed that bolting the delaminated region can significantly reduce the natural frequency variation due to delamination thereby improving the dynamic performance.

소재대체법과 치수최적화 기법을 이용한 2층 고속열차 하이브리드 차체 구조물의 경량 설계 연구 (A Study on Lightweight Design of Double Deck High-Speed Train Hybrid Carbody Using Material Substitution and Size Optimization Method)

  • 본 논문의 목적은 소재대체법과 치수최적화 기법을 이용한 2층 고속열차 알루미늄 압출재 차체의 경량 설계를 제시하는 것이다. 소재대체법을 수행하기 위해 위상최적화 기법을 이용하여 차체 구조물의 샌드위치 복합재 적용 부위를 결정하였다. 해석결과, 루프와 2층 언더프레임에 샌드위치 복합재가 적용 가능함을 보여주었다. 치수최적화는 알루미늄 압출재와 카본/에폭시 복합재의 두께를 결정하는데 사용되었다. 치수최적화를 수행하기 위해, 설계변수, 제약조건, 목적함수를 정식화 하였으며 이러한 조건에 의해 유효설계를 도출하였다. 경량 설계의 결과로 2층 고속열차 하이브리드 차체의 무게를 2.18 ton(17.70%)까지 줄일 수 있음을 보여주었다.

신호의 투과/반사법을 이용한 복합재료 샌드위치 구조 속으로의 안테나 삽입 (Antenna Integration with Composite Sandwich Structure using Transmission/Reflection Methods of Incident Wave)

  • The present study aims to design electrically and structurally effective antenna structures in order that the structural surface itself could become the antenna. The basic design concept is composite sandwich structure in which microstrip antenna is embedded and this is termed composite smart structure (CSS). The most important outstanding problem is that composite materials of structural function cannot be used without reducing antenna efficiency. Unfortunately, such materials have high electrical loss. This is a significant design problem that needs to be solved in practical applications. Therefore, the effects of composites facesheet on antenna performances are investigated in the first stage and changes in the gain of microstrip antenna due to composites facesheet have been determined. ‘Open condition’ is defined when gain is maximized and is a significant new concept for the design of high-gain antennas considering bandwidth in practical application. The open condition can be made with the outer facesheet by controlling its position. In the design of CSS, glass/epoxy composites and Nomex honeycomb were used with exploiting open condition. Experiments, confirm that the gain is improved and the bandwidth is also as wide as specified in our requirements. With the open condition, wideband antenna can be integrated with mechanical structures without reducing any electrical performances, as confirmed experimentally here.

사용후 핵연료 수송용기 샌드위치 복합재 충격완충체의 유효등가 유한요소 모델 제시 (Effective Equivalent Finite Element Model for Impact Limiter of Nuclear Spent Fuel Shipping Cask made of Sandwich Composites Panels)

  • 본 논문에서는 샌드위치 복합재 패널로 제작되는 사용후 핵연료 수송용기 충격완충체의 유효등가 유한 요소모델을 제시하는데 목적을 둔다. 샌드위치 복합재 패널은 금속재 면재와 각각 우레탄 폼, 발사목 그리고 레드우드 심재로 구성되었다. 충격완충체의 유효등가 유한요소 모델은 샌드위치 복합재 패널의 저속충격 시험과 해석결과와의 비교를 통해 제시되었으며, LS-DYNA 3D를 사용한 동적 외연 유한요소해석에 의해 수행되었다. 시험과 해석 결과, 충격완충체 샌드위치 패널의 유한요소 모델은 적층쉘 요소의 면재와 솔리드요소의 심재를 사용한 기존의 혼합모델링 기법에 비해 면재와 심재 모두 솔리드 요소를 적용하는 방법이 더 정확한 결과를 나타냄을 확인하였다. 이때 발사목과 레드우드 심재는 요소제거 기능을 갖는 솔리드 요소로 모델링 되는 것이 추천되어진다.
