  • In this study, the effect of noise and vibration, and influence of ground improvement are evaluated and its application is analyzed through the example of SCP designed at ground improvement in Song-Do international city. consequently, it showes even comfortable result that it is about 5.0m of inner space, when the LVSCP method is applied, rather than that it is about 30m of inner space when the existing SCP is applied in vibration control standards 2.0mm/sec. In the noise, now that the many differences according to environmental factors like other equipment noise, limited space and so on at the time of the construction by LVSCP method are coming out, so we think that appro itate measures are needed according to surroundings. By the way, when it comes to the estimation of the ground improvement work before and after an improvement of LVSCP method, its result shows that it is satisfacttion to all the standards of compaction control in dregded and reclaimed ground and sedimentary clay layer.

  • In this study, sand compaction pile method was adopted to improve the soft ground under the permanent dyke, namely west sea dyke of Incheon New Port. The row replacement ratio 30% was applied to consider the ground condition, environmental side and the construction cost of the site. The stability and displacement analysis was carried out by respectively SLOPE/W and PLAXIS 2D program. Based on this analysis, it is found that the safety factor and displacement is within an allowable criteria. The model experiment was carried out using the acryl soil box with $400(H){\times}1200(L){\times}250(W)mm$ to show the displacement of the dyke and behavior of soft ground. Based on this experiment results, it is found that the settlement does not occur from 1 and 2 loading phases and horizontal displacement of 0.0075% occurs from 2 phases. It is also found that the differential settlement occurs 0.05mm corresponding respectively 0.02% and 0.03% of the dyke height(15cm).

  • In this study, the reliable and simple analysis method was proposed to predict the settlement characteristic of composite ground in stage of design and construction of sand compaction pile (SCP). Model parameters could be obtained by the optimization process based on genetic algorithm. In order to examine the proposed method, laboratory consolidation tests on the settlement characteristic of SCP composite ground were performed for various replacement ratio of sand such as 0 (no replacement), 20, 36, and 56%. The proposed model showed very good agreements with measured data in the relation of void ratio-log scaled stress and time-compression far each replacement ratio.

  • This study was carried out to examine the effects of cornstarch-based absorbent polymer (CAP) on the growth of cool season turfgrasses in sand-based soil mixture. Kentucky bluegrass + perennial ryegrass mixtures seeded at May 18 in 2006 on sand-based soil mixture. Sand + peat (5%, v/v), sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$, sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v), and sand + CAP $40g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) mixtures were compared. Ground coverage of sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v), and sand + CAP $40g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) treatments showed 50% at a month after seeding. But the coverage of sand + peat (5%, v/v), sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ resulted in 36.7%. Mixing of CAP with sand was considered to be efficient method for increasing ground coverage as much as peat. Dry weight of turfgrass tiller at sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v), and sand + CAP $40g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) were also significantly higher than sand + peat (5%, v/v), sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ mixtures at a month after seeding. Soil water retention at the sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$, sand + CAP $40g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) mixing were lower than sand + peat (5%, v/v) and sand + CAP $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}$ + peat (5%, v/v) during the dry periods. From the results, the mixing of CAP with sand is useful to increased ground coverage of kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass.

  • Steel slag has the nature to hydrate and expand when in contact with non-reacting CaO and water, and thus can be used only in limited scope for landfill disposal as well as for recycling as civil construction aggregates. In order to use such steel slags more efficiently, the applicability of steel slag as sand mat alternative material was reviewed. In general, sand mat is used in soft ground surface reinforcement method and horizontal drain method, and is installed simultaneously with soft ground vertical drain method. Therefore in this study steel slag designing method and application standard etc were examined to recycle steel slag as sand mat alternative material, and laboratory soil test and model test were done. Test results indicated that the designing method and application standard meet various environment and quality standards, meaning that steel slag can be utilized as sand mat alternative material, and analysis of slag mat bearing capacity also indicated that use of steel slag produces double or more bearing capacity compared with existing sand mat.

  • Th. mechanism of hydraulic fracturing in sandy soil is elucidated by investigating the relation among the hydrofracturing pressure($P{_f}^{\prime}$), the confinning pressure(${\sigma}_3^{\prime}$), the tensile strength of gelled sand(${\sigma}_t$), and the permeability of sand(k) through many injection tests on several kind of sand.

  • This paper presents the utilization of waste concrete as vertical drain material. The materials used as vertical drain material were the waste concrete, obtained from the demolished apartments or concrete structure and sand. In this study, laboratory model test was performed to investigate settlement and bearing capacity between sand compaction pile and waste concrete compaction pile. The results of laboratory model test showed that the improvement efficiency of soft ground by waste concrete compaction pile was better than sand compaction pile.

  • Composite soil methods among granular pile merhods that we could improve soft ground of fine soil particles by, have permeability as one of fundamental principals. The catual state, that voids of sand or gravel, etc. of granular soil as drainage materials are clogged by fine soil particles, is 'clogging'. In this study, it is analysed that using sand or gravel, etc. of granular soil as drainage materials, experiment are made by clogging tester on several condition.

  • This paper concerns the measurement of thermal conductivity of grouting materials for ground loop heat exchanger. A thermal conductivity meter, QTM-500 based on modified transient hot wire method was used to measure the thermal conductivity of neat bentonite and mixtures of bentonite and various additives. Relative to the total mixture mass, as the percent additive was increased the mixture thermal conductivity increased. For the bentonite-silica sand mixtures, the higher density of the sand particles resulted in much higher mixture thermal conductivity. The quartzite and silica sands produced the largest increases in mixture thermal conductivity, while common masonry and limestone sands produced lower thermal conductivity increases.

  • Since micropiles were conceived in Italy in the early 1950s, which have been widely used for In-situ reinforcement, bearing pile or the concept of combination in the world-wide. The meaning of micropiles usually differs from that of a general deep foundation. Because the load capacity of it was mainly affected by skin friction. Also, it could be obtained the improvement effects of load capacity or ground's rigidity by the unitary behavior of ground and micropiles. In this study, The model tests were peformed on the dense sand where micropiles are set to the vertical direction. Strip footing was used in it. Steel bars of dia. 2 and 4㎜ were used in model tests of which the sand was attached on the surface, and the length of it was changed as 2B to 6B(where, B is width of strip footing) Through this process, the load capacity were analyzed from the test results in the relationship between load and displacement.
