This paper presents an improved learning-based visual inspection method for auto parts inspection in severe lighting changes. Automobile sunroof frames are produced automatically by robots in most production lines. In the sunroof frame manufacturing process, there is a quality problem with some parts such as volts are missed. Instead of manual sampling inspection using some mechanical jig instruments, a learning-based machine vision system was proposed in the previous research[1]. But, in applying the actual sunroof frame production process, the inspection accuracy of the proposed vision system is much lowered because of severe illumination changes. In order to overcome this capricious environment, some selective feature vectors and cascade classifiers are used for each auto parts. And we are able to improve the inspection accuracy through the re-learning concept for the misclassified data. The effectiveness of the proposed visual inspection method is verified through sufficient experiments in a real sunroof production line.

Metallic elements in dustfall have been known as notable air pollutants directly or indirectly influencing human health and wealth. The first aim of this study was to obtain precise spatial distribution patterns of 5 elements (Pb, Zn, K, Cr, and Al) in dustfall around Suwon area. To predict isometric lines of metal fluxes deposited on unsupervised random sites, the study has applied both spatial statistics as a receptor model and a GIS (geographic information system). Total of 31 sampling sites were selected in the study area (roughly 3 by 3 km grid basis) and dustfall samples were then collected monthly basis by the British deposit gauges from Dec., 1995 to Nov., 1996. The metallic elements in the dustfall were then analyzed by an atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS). On the other hand, a base map overlapped by 7 layers was constructed by using the AutoCAD R13 and ARC/INFO 3.4D. Four different spatial interpolation and expolation techniques such as IDW (inverse distance weighted averaging), TIN (triangulated irregular network), polynomial regression, and kriging technique were examined to compare spatial distribution patterns. Each pattern obtained by each technique was substantally different as varing pollutant types, land of use types, and topological conditions, etc. Thus, our study focused intensively on uncertainty analysis based on a concept of the jackknife and the sum of error distance. It was found that a kriging technique was the best applicalbe in this study area.
Modeling fishing-gear systems is essential to better understand the factors affecting their movement and for devising strategies to control movement. In this study, we present a generalized mathematical modeling methodology to analyze fishing gear and its various components. Fishing gear can be divided into a finite number of elements that are connected with flexible lines. We use an algorithm to develop a numerical method that calculates precisely the shape and movement of the gear. Fishinggear mathematical models have been used to develop software tools that can design and simulate dynamic movement of novel fishing-gear systems. The tool allowed us to predict the shape and motion of the gear based on changes in operation and gear design parameters. Furthermore, the tool accurately calculated the swept volume of towed gear and the surrounding volume of purse-seine gear. We analyzed the fished volume for trawl and purse-seine gear and proposed a new definition of fishing effort, incorporating the concept of fished space. This method may be useful for quantitative fishery research, which requires a good understanding of the selectivity and efficiency of fishing gear used in surveys.
A compact imaging spectrometer (COMIS) is currently under development for use in the STSAT3 microsatellite. COMIS images the Earth's surface and atmosphere with ground sampling distances of ${\sim}30m$ in the $18{\sim}62$ spectral bands ($4.0{\sim}1.05{\mu}m$) for the nadir looking at an altitude of 700 km. COMIS has an imaging telescope and an imaging spectrometer box into which three electronics PCBs are embedded. These are designed into a single assembly with dimensions of 35(L) $\times$ 20(W) $\times$ 12(H) $cm^3$ and a mass of 4.3 kg. Optomechanical design efforts are focused on manufacturing ease, alignment, assembly, testing and improved robustness in space environments. Finite element analysis demonstrates that COMIS will survive in launch and space environments and perform the system modulation transfer function (MTF) in excess of 0.29 at the Nyquist frequency of the CCD detector (38.5 lines-per-mm).

A Verilog model is proposed for transmission lines to perform the all-Verilog simulation of high-speed chip-to-chip interface system, which reduces the simulation time by around 770 times compared to the mixed-mode simulation. The single-pulse response of transmission line in SPICE model is converted into that in Verilog model by converting the full-scale analog signal into an 11-bit digital code after uniform time sampling. The receiver waveform of transmission line is calculated by adding or subtracting the single-pulse response in Verilog model depending on the transmitting digital code values with appropriate time delay. The application of this work to a USB 2.0 high-speed PHY interface reduces the simulation time to less than three minutes with error less than 5% while the mixed-mode simulation takes more than two days for the same circuit.

This paper introduce methods and analysis of a simple wireless sensor concept for detecting and locating faults as well as for load monitoring are presented. The concept is based on distributed wireless sensors that are attached to the incoming and outgoing power lines of secondary substations. A sensor measures only phase current characteristics of the wire it is attached to, is not synchronized to other sensors and does not need configuration of triggering levels. The main novelty of the concept is in detecting and locating faults by combining power distribution network characteristics on system level with low power sampling methods for individual sensors. This concept enables the sensor design to be simple, energy efficient and thus applicable in new installations and for retrofit purposes in both overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
The preparation of repeatable and uniformly reconstituted soil specimens up to the specified conditions is an essential requirement for the laboratory tests. In this study for large samples replication, the simultaneous usage of the traveling pluviation and curtain raining technique is used to develop a new method, called the curtain travelling pluviator (CTP). This simple and cost effective system is based on the air pluviation approach, whilst reducing the sample production time, can reproduce uniform samples with relative densities ranging from 25% to 96%. In order to investigate the resulting suitability and uniformity from the proposed method, a series of tests is performed. The effect of curtain traveling velocity, curtain width, drop height, and flow rate on the parameters of the sample is thoroughly investigated. Increase in the curtain velocity and drop height leads to the increase in relative density for the sand specimen. Increase in curtain width typically resulted in the reduction of relative density. Test results reveal that the terminal drop height for the sand specimen in this study is more than 500 mm. Relative density contour lines are presented that can be utilized in optimizing the drop height and curtain width parameters. Sample uniformity in the vertical and horizontal orientation is investigated through the sampling containers. Increasing relative density tends to result in the higher sample repeatability and uniformity.
Dynamic thermal rating of the overhead transmission lines is affected by many uncertain factors. The ambient temperature, wind speed and wind direction are the main sources of uncertainty. Measurement uncertainty is an important parameter to evaluate the reliability of measurement results. This paper presents the uncertainty analysis based on Monte Carlo. On the basis of establishing the mathematical model and setting the probability density function of the input parameter value, the probability density function of the output value is determined by probability distribution random sampling. Through the calculation and analysis of the transient thermal balance equation and the steady- state thermal balance equation, the steady-state current carrying capacity, the transient current carrying capacity, the standard uncertainty and the probability distribution of the minimum and maximum values of the conductor under 95% confidence interval are obtained. The simulation results indicate that Monte Carlo method can decrease the computational complexity, speed up the calculation, and increase the validity and reliability of the uncertainty evaluation.
Oscillations in a sunspot are easily detected through the Doppler velocity observation. Although the sunspot oscillations look erratic, the wavelet analysis show that they consist of successive wave packets which have strong power near three or five minutes. Previous studies found that 3-min oscillation at the chromosphere is a visual pattern of upward propagating acoustic waves along the magnetic field lines. Resent multi-height observations help this like vertical study, however, we also focus on horizontal facet to extend three dimensional understand of sunspot waves. So, we investigate a fragmented sunspot expected to have complex wave profiles according to the positions in the sunspot observed by the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph. We choose 4 points at different umbral cores as sampling positions to determine coherence of oscillations. The sets of cross-correlation with three and five minutes bandpass filters during a single wave packet reveal interesting results. Na I line show weak correlations with some lags, but Fe I and Ni I have strong correlations with no phase difference over the sunspots. It is more remarkable at Ni I line with 3-min bandpass that all sets of cross-correlation look like the autocorrelation. We can interpret this as sunspot oscillations occur spontaneously over a sunspot at photosphere but not at chromosphere. It implies a larger or deeper origin of 3-min sunspot oscillation.
