The problem of identification of continuous systems is considered when both the discrete input and output measurements are contaminated by white noises. Using a predesigned digital low-pass filter, a discrete-time estimation model is constructed easily without direct approximations of system signal derivatives from sampled data. If the pass-band of the filter is designed so that it includes the main frequencies of both the system input and output signals in some range, the noise effects are sufficiently reduced, accurate estimates can be obtained by least squares(LS) algorithm in the presence of low measurement noises. Two classes of filters(infinite impulse response(IIR) filter and finite impulse response(FIR) filter) are employed. The former requires less computational burden and memory than the latter while the latter is suitable for the bias compensated least squares(BCLS) method, which compensates the bias of the LS estimate by the estimates of the input-output noise variances and thus yields unbiased estimates in the presence of high noises.

This paper studies digital control of biodynamic model of HIV-1 via intelligent digital redesign (IDR). The purpose of the IDR is to develop an equivalent digital fuzzy controller maintaining the satisfactory performance of an existing continuous-time fuzzy controller in the sense of the state-matching. Some conditions for the stability as well as the global state-matching are provided.. They are given by the form of the linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) and thereby easily tractable by the convex optimization techniques. The main features of the proposed method are that 1) the generalized control scheme is provided for the multirate as well as the single-rate digital controllers; 2) a new compensated block-pulse function method is applied to closely match the states of the continuous-time and the sampled-data fuzzy systems in the discrete-time domain; 3) the two-step procedure of IDR is presented to prevent the performance degradation caused by the additional stability conditions. The applicability of the proposed approach is shown through the biodynamic model of HIV-1.
In this paper, author describe the simulation results concerning the period doubling bifurcation route to chaos of DC/DC boost converter under current mode control to show that it is common phenomena on switching regulator when parameters are improperly chosen or continuously varied beyond the ensured region by system designer. Bifurcation diagrams of periodic orbits of inductor current and capacitor voltage of DC/DC boost converter are plotted with sampled data at moment of each clock pulse causing switching on. DC/DC boost converter studied on this paper is modelled by its state space equations as per switching condition under continuous conduction mode. Current reference signal and capacitance are chosen as the bifurcation parameters and those are varied in step for iterative calculation to find bifurcation points of periodic orbits of state variables.
An output time delay always exists in practical systems. Analysis of the delay phenomenon in a continuous-time domain is sophisticated. It is appropriate to obtain its corresponding discrete-time model for implementation via a digital computer. A new method for the discretization of nonlinear systems using Taylor series expansion and the zero-order hold assumption is proposed in this paper. This method is applied to the sampled-data representation of a nonlinear system with a constant output time-delay. In particular, the effect of the time-discretization method on key properties of nonlinear control systems, such as equilibrium properties and asymptotic stability, is examined. In addition, 'hybrid' discretization schemes resulting from a combination of the 'scaling and squaring' technique with the Taylor method are also proposed, especially under conditions of very low sampling rates. A performance of the proposed method is evaluated using two nonlinear systems with time-delay output.
In recent years the monitoring of structural behavior through acquisition of vibrational data has become common practice. In addition, recent advances in sensor development have made the collection of diverse dynamic information feasible. Other than the commonly collected acceleration information, Global Position System (GPS) receivers and non-contact, optical techniques have also allowed for the synchronous collection of highly accurate displacement data. The fusion of this heterogeneous information is crucial for the successful monitoring and control of structural systems especially when aiming at real-time estimation. This task is not a straightforward one as measurements are inevitably corrupted with some percentage of noise, often leading to imprecise estimation. Quite commonly, the presence of noise in acceleration signals results in drifting estimates of displacement states, as a result of numerical integration. In this study, a new approach based on a time domain identification method, namely the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF), is proposed for correcting the "drift effect" in displacement or rotation estimates in an online manner, i.e., on the fly as data is attained. The method relies on the introduction of artificial white noise (WN) observations into the filter equations, which is shown to achieve an online correction of the drift issue, thus yielding highly accurate motion data. The proposed approach is demonstrated for two cases; firstly, the illustrative example of a single degree of freedom linear oscillator is examined, where availability of acceleration measurements is exclusively assumed. Secondly, a field inspired implementation is presented for the torsional identification of a tall tower structure, where acceleration measurements are obtained at a high sampling rate and non-collocated GPS displacement measurements are assumed available at a lower sampling rate. A multi-rate Kalman Filter is incorporated into the analysis in order to successfully fuse data sampled at different rates.
Foodservice at elementary schools has been provided nation-wide. It is predictable that foodborne diseases would increase continuously. Formation of a counterplan is urgently needed. This study was designed to identify the stage which contains the critical control points (CCPs) for the microbiological management of HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) at the foodservice provided at elementary schools. Foodservice places at four elementary schools in Seoul were sampled and the overall hygiene of cooking, utensils and equipment, employees, and environment by season were examined. The results showed that the number of bacteria in overall samples was increased and that E. coli, Salmonella and Staphylococcus by biochemical test emerged in more diverse samples in summer than in spring. Particularly, the number of aerial bacteria in summer was three-fold greater than that in either spring or winter. E. coli 0157 was not detected, although Salmonella was identified by PCR analysis in the meat knives, chopping boards, waste bins and meat dish at elementary school foodservice. According to this data, cross-contamination should be managed in the stage of mixing up the ingredients with improper equipments and insanitary treatments. Thus, the establishment of SSOP (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) at elementary school foodservice is stringently required, along with sanitation education for workers and employees as CCPs.
As there is no failure data for the entire lifecycle of a product, when analyzing reliability measures based on early failure data only, there may be a significant error between the estimated mean life and the real one, because it can be underestimated, or on the other hand, it can be overestimated when analyzing reliability measures based on a large amount of censored data with the failure data. To resolve the issue, this study proposes an optimal sampling estimation procedure that selects the proportion of censored data to estimate the optimal distribution with the idea that the estimated distribution could be approximated as closely as the real life distribution. This would work if we sampled the optimal proportion on the censored data, because failure data has real intrinsic distribution in any situation. We validate the proposed procedure using an actual example. If the proposed method is applied to the maintenance policy of TWC (Train to Wayside Communication) system, then we can establish the optimal maintenance policy. Thus, we expect that it will be effective for improvement of reliability and cost savings.

In a conventional speed sensorless stator flux-oriented (SFO) induction motor drive, when the estimated speed is transformed into the sample-data model using the first-forward difference approximation, the sampled data model has a modeling error which, in turn, produces an error in the rotor speed estimation. The error is removed by the use of a low pass filter (LPF). As a result, the delay of the estimated speed occurs in transients by the use of the LPF. This paper proposes a method to estimate exactly the speed by using Luenberger observer to solve the problem of a conventional method.
Since the neural network was introduced, significant progress has been made on data handling and learning algorithms. Currently, the most popular learning algorithm in neural network training is feed forward error back-propagation (FFEBP) algorithm. Aside from the success of the FFEBP algorithm, polynomial neural networks (PNN) learning has been proposed as a new learning method. The PNN learning is a self-organizing process designed to determine an appropriate set of Ivakhnenko polynomials that allow the activation of many neurons to achieve a desired state of activation that mimics a given set of sampled patterns. These neurons are interconnected in such a way that the knowledge is stored in Ivakhnenko coefficients. In this paper, the PNN model has been developed using the plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) experimental data. To characterize the PECVD process using PNN, SiO$_2$films deposited under varying conditions were analyzed using fractional factorial experimental design with three center points. Parameters varied in these experiments included substrate temperature, pressure, RF power, silane flow rate and nitrous oxide flow rate. Approximately five microns of SiO$_2$were deposited on (100) silicon wafers in a Plasma-Therm 700 series PECVD system at 13.56 MHz.
An input time delay always exists in practical systems. Analysis of the delay phenomenon in a continuous-time domain is sophisticated. It is appropriate to obtain its corresponding discrete-time model for implementation via digital computers. In this paper a new scheme for the discretization of nonlinear systems using Taylor series expansion and the zero-order hold assumption is proposed. The mathematical structure of the new discretization method is analyzed. On the basis of this structure the sampled-data representation of nonlinear systems with time-delayed multi-input is presented. The delayed multi-input general equation has been derived. In particular, the effect of the time-discretization method on key properties of nonlinear control systems, such as equilibrium properties and asymptotic stability, is examined. Additionally, hybrid discretization schemes that result from a combination of the scaling and squaring technique (SST) with the Taylor series expansion are also proposed, especially under conditions of very low sampling rates. Practical issues associated with the selection of the method's parameters to meet CPU time and accuracy requirements, are examined as well. A performance of the proposed method is evaluated using a nonlinear system with time delay maneuvering an automobile.
