The study tested QuEChERS (quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged and safe) sample preparation and HPLC-MS/ MS analysis for measurement of pesticide residues in fruit and vegetable. 240 kinds of pesticides spiked at three levels of 90, 45, 9 ng/g in lettuce and apple. For QuEChERS sample preparation, graphitized carbon black (GCB) was used for only lettuce in dispersive-SPE as absorbent. Matrix-matched standard calibration was used for quantitative analysis of HPLC-MS/MS. 218 pesticides (91%) in apple and 207 pesticides (86%) in lettuce showed recoveries in the range of 70~120% with $RSD{\leq}20%$. The lowest calibrated level (LCL) were 4.5 ng/g for 192 pesticides, 9 ng/g for 42 pesticides, 45 ng/g for 3 pesticides and 3 pesticides were not detected at all concentration levels. The results showed that the QuEChERS sample preparation and HPLC-MS/MS analysis can be applied to multi-residue analysis of pesticides in vegetables and fruits.
We examined the mineralogical composition of pyrite-bearing rocks by quantitative powder X-ray diffraction analysis using the matrix-flushing method and ROCKJOCK (a full pattern fitting computer program). The neutralization potential (NP) and acid generating potential (AP) were calculated on the basis of mineralogical compositions. The mineralogical AP was compared with the conventional AP calculated from bulk sulfur concentration to assess the applicability to the prediction of acid rock drainage(ARD). The pyrite content calculated by matrix-flushing method showed a high positive correlation($r^2$=0.95) with those by ROCKJOCK. The pyrite contents by matrix-flushing method was 1.45 times larger than those by ROCKJOCK. The pyrite content and mineralogical AP obtained by the matrix-flushing method had a better correlation($r^2$=0.98) with those by the total sulfur concentrations in the all samples except KB sample. The mineralogical NPs of YJ sample were 23.0 and 34.0(kg $CaCO_3$ equivalent per tonne) by matrix-flushing method and ROCKJOCK, respectively. The AP calculated by matrix-flushing method and ROCKJOCK program were 47% and 72% of those by the conventional ABA test. We hereby suggested that the quantitative analysis using XRD data can be applied to prediction of ARD. For more reliable calculation of the mineralogical NP and AP, other sulfide and carbonate minerals such as pyrrhotite, dolomite, ankerite, siderite, rhodochrosite which can affact the mineralogical NP and AP should be considered.

Template attack is a powerful side-channel analysis technique which can be performed by an attacker who has a test device that is identical to target device. Template attack is consisted of building template in profiling phase and matching the target device using template that were calculated in profiling phase. One methods to improve the success rate of template attack is to better estimate template which is consisted sample mean and sample covariance matrix of gaussian distribution in template profiling. However restriction of power trace in profiling phase led to poor template estimation. In this paper, we propose new method to select noisy power trace in profiling phase. By eliminating noisy power trace in profiling phase, we can construct more advanced mean and covariance matrix which relates to better performance in template attack. We proved that the proposed method is valid through experiments.
This paper derives joint and conditional Lagrange multiplier tests based on information matrix for testing functional form and/or the presence of autocorrelation in a regression model. Small sample properties of these tests are assessed by Monte Carlo study and comparisons are made with LM tests based on Hessian matrix. The results show that the proposed $LM_E$ tests have the most appropriate finite sample performance.
Since superconducting wires have no resistance, electromagnets based on the superconducting wires produce no resistive heating with DC current as long as the current does not exceed the critical current of the wire. However, unlike resistive wires, superconducting wires exhibit AC heat loss. Embedding fine superconducting filaments inside copper matrix can reduce this AC loss to an acceptable level and opens the way to AC-capable superconducting coils. Here, we introduce an easy and accurate method to measure AC heat loss from sample superconducting coils by measuring changes in the rate of gas helium outflow from the liquid helium dewar in which the sample coil is placed. This method provides accurate information on total heat loss of a superconducting coil without any size limit, as long as the coil can fit inside the liquid helium dewar. With this method, we have evaluated AC heat loss of two superconducting solenoids, a 180-turn solid NbTi wire with 0.127 mm diameter (NbTi coil) and a 100-turn filamented wire with 1.4 mm diameter where 7 NbTi filaments were embedded in a copper matrix with copper to NbTi ratio of 6.7:1 (NbTi-Cu coil). Both coils were wound on 15 mm-diameter G-10 epoxy tubes. The AC heat losses of the NbTi and NbTi-Cu coils were evaluated as $53{\pm}4.7\;{\mu}W/A^2Hzcm^3$ and $0.67{\pm}0.16\;{\mu}W/A^2Hzcm^3$, respectively.

The uranium isotopic ratio in environmental samples around nuclear facilities is important because it reveals information regarding illegal activities or anthropogenic pollution. Determination of uranium isotopes, however, is a challenging task requiring much labor and time because of the complex separation procedures and lengthy process. In this study, a rapid determination method for uranium isotopes in environmental samples was developed using. The sample was completely decomposed using the alkali fusion method. The separation procedure using extraction chromatography (UTEVA) was simplified in a single step without any further removal process for Si and major matrix elements. The established method can be completed within 3 h from sample dissolution to ICP-MS measurement. Most matrix elements and uranium isotopes in the soil samples were well separated and purified. Five types of were used to assess the method's accuracy and precision for a rapid uranium analysis method. The analytical accuracy for all CRM samples ranged from 95.1 % to 97.8 %, and the relative standard deviation was below 3.9 %. From the analytical results, one may draw conclusions that the evaluated method for uranium isotopes using alkali-fusion, the extraction chromatography process, and ICP-MS measurements is fast and fairly reliable owing to its recovering efficiencies. Thus, it is expected that the evaluated method can contribute to the improvement of environmental monitoring ability.
The iodide formed stoichiometrically for sulfide by its oxidation with iodate was extracted as an ion-pair with methylene green into 1,2-dichloroethane and the extract was measured spectrophotometrically at 656nm for the determination of sulfide. Hydrogen sulfide separated from the sample matrix was introduced into a solution containing pH 3.5 acetate buffer and iodate, in which the hydrogen sulfide was completely converted into iodide. A linear calibration graph was obtained over the range $3{\times}10^{-7}{\sim}1.2{\times}10^{-5}M$ sulfide($0.0096{\sim}0.384{\mu}g$ of $S^{2-}/ml$) and the detection limit was $0.0032{\mu}g/ml$. The apparent molar absorptivity and a correlation coefficient(r) were $6.7{\times}10^4L\;mole^{-1}\;cm^{-1}$ and 0.999, respectively. When applied to the stream water samples, the proposed method gave a relative standard deviation of 1.59% at $5{\times}10^{-6}M$ sulfide level.

This study evaluated the ability of Diffusion-Weight Image (DWI), which is one of pulse sequences used in MRI based on the T2 weighted images, to detect samples placed within phantoms according to their size. Two identically sized phantoms, which could be inserted into the breast coil bilaterally, were prepared. Five samples with different sizes were placed in the phantoms, and the T2 weighted images and DWI were obtained. The Breast 2 channel coil of SIEMENS MAGNETOM Avanto 1.5 Tesla equipment was used for the experiments. 2D T2 weighted images were obtained using the following parameters: TR/TE = 6700/74 msec, Thickness/gap = 5/1 mm, Inversion Time (TI) = 130 ms, and matrix = $224{\times}448$. The parameters of DWI were that TR/TE = 8100/90 msec, Thickness/gap = 5/1 mm, matrix = $128{\times}128$, Inversion Time = 185 ms, and b-value = 0, 100, 300, 600, 1000 s/mm. The ratio of the sample volume on DWI compared to the T2 weighted images, which show excellent ability to detect lesions on MR images, was presented as the mean b-value. The measured b-value of the samples was obtained: 0.5${\times}$0.5 cm=0.33/0.34 square ${\times}$ cm (103%), 1${\times}$1 cm=1.28/1.25 square ${\times}$ cm (102.4%), 1.5${\times}$1.5 cm = 2.28/2.67 square ${\times}$ cm (85.39%), 2${\times}$2 cm=3.56/4.08 square ${\times}$ cm (87.25%), and 2.5${\times}$2.5 cm=7.53/8.77 square ${\times}$ cm (85.86%). In conclusion, the detection ability by the size of a sample was measured to be over 85% compared to T2 weighted image, but the detection ability of DWI was relatively lower than that of T2 weighted image.

The MUSIC (MUltiple SIgnal Classification) method estimates the directions of arrival (DOAs) of the signals impinging on a sensor array based on the fact that the noise subspace is orthogonal to the signal subspace. In the conventional MUSIC, an estimate of the basis for the noise subspace is obtained by eigendecomposing the sample matrix, which is computationally expensive. In this paper, we present a simple DOA estimation method which finds an estimate of the signal subspace basis directly from the columns of the sample matrix from which the noise power components are removed. DOA estimates are obtained by searching for minimum points of a cost function which is defined using the estimated signal subspace basis. The minimum points are efficiently found through the Brent method which employs parabolic interpolation. Simulation shows that the simple estimation method virtually has the same performance as the complex conventional method based on the eigendecomposition.

This paper introduces an efficient affine projection algorithm(APA) using iterative hyperplane projection. Among various fast converging adaptation algorithms, APA has been preferred to be employed for various applications due to its inherent effectiveness against the rank deficient problem. However, the amount of complexity of the conventional APA could not be negligible because of the accomplishment of sample matrix inversion(SMI). Moreover, the 'shifting invariance property' usually exploited in single channel case does not hold for the application of space-time decision-directed equalizer(STDE) deployed in single-input-multi-output(SIMO) systems. Thus, it is impossible to utilize the fast adaptation schemes such as fast transversal filter(FlF) having low-complexity. To accomplish such tasks, this paper introduces the low-complexity APA by employing hyperplane projection algorithm, which shows the excellent tracking capability as well as the fast convergence. In order to confirm th validity of the proposed method, its performance is evaluated under wireless SIMO channel in respect to bit error rate(BER) behavior and computational complexity.
