Continuous ion-exchange membrane electrodialysis of mother liquid discharged from a salt-manufacturing plant and transport of Cl- ions and SO42- ions

  • Mother liquid discharged from a salt-manufacturing plant was electrodialyzed at 25 and $40^{\circ}C$ in a continuous process integrated with $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ion low-permeable anion-exchange membranes to remove $Na_2SO_4$ and recover NaCl in the mother liquid. Performance of electrodialysis was evaluated by measuring ion concentration in a concentrated solution, permselectivity coefficient of $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ions against $Cl^-$ ions, current efficiency, cell voltage, energy consumption to obtain one ton of NaCl and membrane pair characteristics. The permselectivity coefficient of $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ions against $Cl^-$ ions was low enough particularly at $40^{\circ}C$ and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ transport across anion-exchange membranes was prevented successfully. Applying the overall mass transport equation, $Cl^-$ ion and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ion transport across anion-exchange membranes is evaluated. $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ion transport number is decreased due to the decrease of electro-migration of $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ions across the anion-exchange membranes. $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ion concentration in desalting cells becomes higher than that in concentration cells and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ ion diffusion is accelerated across the anion-exchange membranes from desalting cells toward concentrating cells.

  • 본 논문에서는 하부가열식 실험용 태양연못을 제작하여 열유속과 초기의 소금 농도구배를 변화시켜 가면서 실험을 수행하였다.실험을 통하여 측정한 각 층안의 온도와 소금농도구배 및 하부혼합층의 성장율 등을 바탕으로 지배방정식과 가정을 세 운뒤 이들 방정식을 풀어 실험테이터와 비교하였다.

사경에 의한 잔디류의 내염성에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Salt - tolerance of Lawn Grasses in Sand Culture)

  • The object of this experiments was to know the salt tolerance of Fults and other lawn grasses. Fults, Olympic (Tall fescue, Festuca arundinacea Schred), Ceeping red fescue, Kentucky bluegrass and Zoysia grass (Z. japonica S.) were grown in hydroponics with vermiculite at various concentrations of NaCl. Hoagland's solution was used as the basic solution (control), and the concentrations of Cl to it were 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 and l5OOOppm, respectively. Each was cultivated under the circumstances during 2 months. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1.The growth of Fults, Olympic, Creeping red fescue and others were better at Cl lOOOppm than control. In the 5OOOppm application, Fescues become worse and 23.9% of them were withered. In concentration of Cl above 9OOOppm, it was impossible to live. 2.In the l0000~l1000ppm application, Olympic and Kentucky bluegrass were become worse and most of them died. 3.Fults were almost possible to live in the below of 9OOOppm, but they began to die in the above of 10000 ppm. 4.With the increasing concentration of Cl, plants were dwarfed and the number of stems, leaves and roots were reduced, but it was especially observed that the number of stolons of Creeping red fescue were increased at 1000~4000ppm. 5.Fults grass was the most salt tolerant turfgrass, but was impossible to live at salt level of about 36 millimhos (Exchange NaCI conductivity-ppm). Among the grasses, according to salt tolerance, they were arranged as follows. Fults > Zoysia japonica S. > Ky belugrass > Olympic grass > Creeping red fescue 6.The number of leaves, stems, tillers, and dry weight of Olympic grass, Fults and others were increased more at Cl 1OOOppm application than control, but in the above 4OOOppm application, those of plants were decreased. 7.The productivity of all grasses under the experiments was increased at 3.l75millimhos (Exchange NaCi conductivity ppm) in the concentration of Cl. The each dry-weight of Olympic, Creeping red fescue, Kentucky bluegrass and Zoysia grass was decreased at 8.85millimhos, and the weight of Fults grass was also decreased remarkably at 12.20millimhos. 8.As the result of this experiments, most plants grow normally at low concentration of NaCI-l000ppm. That seems to stimulate more the grasses to grow than non-salt.

염 함량이 된장의 초고압 살균에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Salt Contents on High Pressure Inactivation of Microorganism in Doenjang)

  • 염 함량을 달리한 된장을 초고압 처리하여 미생물 저감특성을 조사함으로써 된장, 특히 저염 된장의 저장성을 높이기 위하여 초고압기술의 적용가능성을 검토하였다. 초고압처리에 의한 된장 미생물 사멸효과는 전반적으로 낮은것으로 나타났으며, 초고압처리에 의한 미생물 사멸효과는 염 함량에 반비례하는 경향을 보였다. 미생물 종류에 따른 초고압사멸효과는 곰팡이, 효모, 세균 순으로 낮아졌다. 염 함량 10% 이하의 저염 된장은 6500 기압에서 40 분간 초고압처리에 의해 곰팡이와 효모가 거의 사멸되었으며, 초고압처리는 저염 된장의 유통기간 향상에 기여할 것으로 기대되었다.

  • 최근 간척사업으로 조성된 간척농경지의 영농에 있어 가장 빈번하게 발생하는 영농사고는 염수에 의한 농작물의 염해피해로 간척지를 농경지로 사용함에 있어 최우선적으로 선행되어야 할 과제는 제염화이다. 현재까지 간척지의 제염화를 위한 활발한 연구 및 기술개발이 진행되고 있으나, 현재의 기술로 단시간 내에 간척지를 제염화하는 것은 사실상 불가능한 실정이며, 간척농경지에 사용되는 관개용수 또한 대부분 간척으로 조성된 담수호나 조수간만의 영향을 받는 하구원의 수원을 염분 농도를 고려하지 않은 상태에서 이용하고 있어 기상조건, 배수갑문 오동작 등으로 인한 염분농도 상승에 의해 피해가 발생되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 WCDMA 모듈을 이용하여 외부 서버로 데이터를 전송을 수신받아 실시간으로 현재 염분 수치가 실시간으로 증가되는 그래프를 구현하였으며, 또한 일정 수치이상으로 올라가면 경보음을 알릴뿐만 아니라, 데이터가 실시간으로 저장되 사용자가 다시 확인할 수 있는 실시간 염분 모니터링 시스템을 구현 하였다.

정수장 현장제조염소의 브로메이트와 클로레이트의 생성 특성연구 (Study on disinfection by-products formation according to kind of salt in on-site production)

  • Although disinfection in drinking water treatment plants provides a safer water supply by inactivating pathogenic microorganisms, harmful disinfection by-products may be formed. In this study, the disinfectant, chlorine, was produced on-site from the electrolysis of salt (NaCl), and the by-products of the disinfection process, bromate and chlorate, were analyzed. The provisional guideline levels for bromate and chlorate in drinking water are $10{\mu}g/L$ and $700{\mu}g/L$, in Korea, respectively. Bromide salt was detected at concentrations ranging from 6.0 ~ 622 mg/kg. Bromate and chlorate were detected at concentrations ranging from non-detect (ND) ~ 45.3mg/L and 40.5 ~ 1,202 mg/L, respectively. When comparing the bromide concentration in the salt to the bromate concentration in the chlorine produced by salt electrolysis, the correlation of bromide to bromate concentration was 0.870 (active chlorine concentration from on-site production: 0.6-0.8%, n=40). The correlation of bromate concentration in the chlorine produced to that in the treated water was 0.866.

데침조건에 따른 참나물의 생리활성 성분 변화 (Change of Biologically Functional Compounds of Pimpinella brachycarpa(Chamnamul) by Blanching Conditions)

  • Wild edible plants are consumed as raw and/or processed. Analytical data for raw biologically functional compounds were relatively well established. The changes on functional compounds during processing are, however, not well studied. This study was carried out to investigate the change of the quality of wild edible plants, Pimpinella brachycarpa(Chamnamul) at various conditions. Samples were blanched at the salt concentration of 0%, 1% or 2% for 1, 2, and 3 minutes each. The biologically active compounds, vitamin C, ${\beta}-carotene$, chlorophyll, flavonoids, polyphenols and minerals were analyzed. The concentration of vitamin C in Chamnamul decreased as blanching time increased. Beta-carotene in Chamnamul showed high concentration when Chamnamul was treated under longer blanching time. Higher salt concentration of blanching water, however, resulted in the increased concentration of ${\beta}-carotene$ in the blanched Chamnamul. Higher salt concentration of blanching water also reduced the loss of total flavonoids and total polyphenols from the blanched Chamnamul. The change of colors in the blanching water seemed to be corresponding to those of total flavonoids and total polyphenols concentrations in the blanching water.

단체급식소 나트륨 섭취감소를 위한 영양교육 프로그램 개발 및 효과 평가 (Development and Evaluation of Nutrition Education Program for Sodium Reduction in Foodservice Operations)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a nutrition education program for dietary salt reduction using various nutrition education materials. The effect of a 5-week nutrition education program on salty taste assessment, nutrition knowledge, salt attitude for a high-salt diet, salt content in food, and individual satisfaction with the salt concentration of meals during the education period was evaluated. Nutrition education materials included two animations, a pamphlet, panels, and a website, as well as other training resources. Subjects participating in this study were 335 employees (164 male, 171 female) at 15 foodservice operations in Daegu. Preference for higher levels of salty taste and food containing higher amounts of salt were lowered. Knowledge regarding the necessity for dietary salt reduction was higher (p < 0.001) than before nutrition education, and salt content in a meal was reduced. As the program progressed, average salt concentrations of soups were significantly lowered (p < 0.05), and there was greater satisfaction with the lower concentration (p < 0.001). This was a positive indication of the program's success. In addition, it was found that subjects who participated in the program several times have changed their preference to lower levels of salty taste and have increased their nutrition knowledge (p < 0.05, p < 0.001). Thus, the positive effect of this 5-week nutrition education program developed for, and applied to, foodservice employees, concerning dietary salt reduction was confirmed.

Detoxification of Eucheuma spinosum Hydrolysates with Activated Carbon for Ethanol Production by the Salt-Tolerant Yeast Candida tropicalis

  • The objective of this study was to optimize the slurry contents and salt concentrations for ethanol production from hydrolysates of the seaweed Eucheuma spinosum. A monosaccharide concentration of 44.2 g/l as 49.6% conversion of total carbohydrate of 89.1 g/l was obtained from 120 g dw/l seaweed slurry. Monosaccharides from E. spinosum slurry were obtained by thermal acid hydrolysis and enzymatic hydrolysis. Addition of activated carbon at 2.5% (w/v) and the adsorption time of 2 min were used in subsequent adsorption treatments to prevent the inhibitory effect of HMF. The adsorption surface area of the activated carbon powder was 1,400-1,600 m2/g and showed selectivity to 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) from monosaccharides. Candida tropicalis KCTC 7212 was cultured in yeast extract, peptone, glucose, and high-salt medium, and exposed to 80, 90, 100, and 110 practical salinity unit (psu) salt concentrations in the lysates. The 100 psu salt concentration showed maximum cell growth and ethanol production. The ethanol fermentations with activated carbon treatment and use of C. tropicalis acclimated to a high salt concentration of 100 psu produced 17.9 g/l of ethanol with a yield (YEtOH) of 0.40 from E. spinosum seaweed.

염수농도에 따른 휴대폰 배터리의 방전특성과 화재 위험성 분석 (Analysis of Discharge Characteristics and Fire Risk of Mobile Phone Batteries according to the Concentration of Salt Water)

  • 리튬-이온 배터리를 폐기하는 방법으로 흔히 사용되고 있는 염수를 이용한 방전 방법은 자칫 화재로 이어질 개연성이 있음에도 불구하고 배터리의 염수 방전 과정의 화재 위험성에 대한 연구는 많지 않다. 본 연구에서는 리튬-이온 배터리 중 휴대폰 배터리를 대상으로 하여 염수에 배터리를 담가 방전 시킬 때 방전특성과 발열에 의한 화재 발생 가능성을 확인하고자 염수농도와 배터리의 개수를 변화시킨 여러 조건에서 실험을 수행하였다. 각 조건에서 방전전압 및 배터리의 발열온도를 측정하여 방전 과정 및 발열에 의한 화재 위험성을 예측하였다. 실험 결과로는, 염수농도가 높을수록 휴대폰 배터리의 방전이 더 잘 되었으며, 발열온도 또한 높게 측정 되었고, 염수에 침수된 배터리 1개의 발열온도보다 중첩된 배터리의 발열온도가 더 높게 측정되었다. 또한, 배터리의 가장 높은 발열이 발생하는 부분은 (+),(-)전극에서 발생하는 것을 알 수 있었다.
