A Study on the Development of the Collision Prevention System for Aids to Navigation by Early Identification of the Tug Boat (예인선 조기 식별을 통한 항로표지시설 추돌 방지 시스템 개발 연구)

  • Aid to navigation is a navigational aid facility that informs a sailing vessel of its location and direction as well as a location of a specific obstacle by means of a light, shape, color, sound, radio wave, etc. It can be valuable in improving the safety of day and night vessel navigation at sea. For the safety of the tug boat, the minimum equipment requirements for each type of tug boat are arranged. Despite these preparations, the collision accidents between tug boats, barges, and light buoys can occur when the tug boat turns due to the length of the tow-line, tidal current, and the barge's momentum etc. The purpose of this study was to propose the basic system that analyzes the physical relationship between two vessels regarding the tug boat-barge-light buoy dynamics and propagate the corresponding data through the aid to navigation management & operation systems in use at each regional oceans and fisheries.

  • We have studied on the maritime navigation with functions of navigation route search and maritime safety information for small-size fishery ships, fishing boats, yachts, and boats in coastal seas. We have designed a smart phone application which is more exact information on marine obstacles of islands, aquafarms, and rocks by using land navigation techniques. Our navigation system is relatively easy to be used for costal navigation and may be a substitute for expensive ECDIS(Electronic Chart Display and Information System). Our system consists of maritime navigation databases to manage necessary maritime data and a mobile application to support maritime navigation for operators. We believe that our research findings can improve safety navigation in coastal seas by supporting lower cost, no time-consuming installation and maintenance, and easy-to-use operations.

  • Daesan Harbor is developing under the Industrial Complex or Petrochemistry Development Plan making the port the main hub-port in the West coast. Because of this development. the traffic volume is expected to increase to 9,1.95 incoming vessels by 2020, an increase of 167% compared to 2008 figure. This study thoroughly analyzes and evaluates a systematic and comprehensive use of the fairway in the Daesan Harbor. It establishes a future oriented and safe marine transportation environment upon appropriate examination of the total fairways and sailing assistance facilities.

  • Navigational charts in Korea have been increasingly published in line with the development of harbour for 60 years without a detailed planning. Recently, charts cause inconvenience to use and make navigator confused because they have not been adjoined to adjacent chart effectively and have been to overlap with other charts of the same scale. In this paper, we propose new chart system through adjusting area of the chart and rearranging its scale. This newly proposed scheme was first designed by researchers who have on-board career, then has been verified and revised by questionnaire and pilots' opinion. As a result, total number of Korean chart could be changed from 309 to 334.

  • In Designing a Small Ship, the Design of the Trim for Sailing has a great influence on the Stability of the Ship as well as Resistance. The Center of Gravity of a Ship is mostly determined during Initial Design. This Study confirms the Effect of Trim on changes in Vertical Center of Gravity by Numerical Analysis for a Small Catamaran. The Results were examined in a Model test. However, No Model tests were conducted while varying the changes in Vertical Center of Gravity. Nonetheless, Investigation was completed for the Purpose of presenting Vertical Center of Gravity results according to plans for the Trim during Initial Design of a Small Ship. In order to verify the Results of Numerical Analysis, a Comparison with Experimental results was carried out. Alternation of Trim angle and Resistance performance according to changes in the Center of Gravity were studied.

A Study on Ship Evacuation Safety Consequent on the Size and Sort of Fire (화재의 크기와 종류에 따른 선박 피난 안전 연구)

  • Maritime accidents caused by a ship include collisions, sinking, stranding and fire etc. This study is intending to consider fire accidents among such diverse marine accidents. It is much likely that various sorts of fires break out because crewmen are living in a narrow space for long periods of time consequent on the ship's characteristic of sailing on the sea. According to the ship fire survey, about 50% of the total fire accidents occurred at an engine room, and the main fire origin was analyzed to be oil. In addition, ship fire breaks out in the order of baggage racks and living quarter. In short, the survey indicates that all sorts of fires belonging to A, B, C and D-class have occurred. This study, targeting an actual passenger ship 'A', found the response time to evacuation, during which the people on board a ship recognize the outbreak of fire, and act, and the travel time for evacuation which is the actual travel time. In addition, this study carried out a simulation through the special program for fire analysis - FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) in order to find the effective evacuation time, i.e. life survival time. Particularly, this study did comparative analysis of the influence on the survival of passengers and crew based on the collected simulation data by fire size and sort. As a result of the analysis, it was found that when examining the only actual evacuation movement time excepting the response time to evacuation, people are safe by completing evacuation before the effective evacuation time only in case fire size is 100Kw among all sorts of fires. In other words, in case of the outbreak of fire more than 1 MW, it was found to fail to meet evacuation safety regardless of fire size.

This study carried out a simulation through the special program for fire analysis - FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) in order to find the effective evacuation time, i.e. life survival time. Particularly, this study did comparative analysis of the influence on the survival of cadets based on the collected simulation data by fire size and sort. As a result of the analysis, It was analyzed the Evacuation Allowable Limit Temperature $60^{\circ}C$ and resulted that there is no influence in evacuation by temperature. In case of visibility analysis, it reached to 5m which is the Evacuation Allowable Limit at 117 seconds under the condition of wood fire in 1MW. When there is Kerosene in 1MW, it took 92.4 seconds to reach by 5m which is the Evacuation Allowable Limit. Theoretical evacuation time for the non-tilted ship was 118.8 seconds in 1MW sized fire so it is shown that the most passengers are met the evacuation safety in case of wood fire. However, the majority of passengers could not be ensured the evacuation safety in Kerosene case.

  • The marine accident is being highlighted as a serious worldwide problem for the guard station of human safety and the protection of marine environment pollution. Especially, the GMDSS is operated as a international rule for the safety of a large scale ship, but the small size ship's management is required a adaptive national rule because of the complex condition of national circumstance. This study is motivated to develop a ship's position tracking system combined with GPS information for VTS and control the ship navigation, velocity and longitude etc.. In Part of Navigation Data Transmission is GPS data transmission whih ship's ID using microprocessor and TX speed translation for flexibility with 4800∼2400 [bps]. Results show that the our system for data transmission using microprocessor is useful tool in maritime transmission as SSB used the main TX method of small ship and has a cost competitive power. Therefore, we will expected cost and technical competitive power compared to AIS. But those systems are still remained the unsolved problem for protection from marine accident.. Finally, we examined the semi-actual receiving state on simulated sailing in the around sea of Mok-Po harbor.

Therefore, introducing the technology of AIS in the ground station, lighthouse, bouy, sea facilities etc.. that is support equipment for safety sailing of ship and safety security of harbor and ship administration. The operation and maintenance of AIS for aids to navigation are required to efficient method. With this actuality, sea advanced nation of EU, USA, Japan that has been apply for developing AtoN AIS equipment that is connected equipment of technology standard in IALA. Because of it is expected to depend equipment in income, that is required to domestic technology of the AtoN AIS. This paper is targeted to development that is suitable automation AtoN AIS equipment in environmental peculiarity for constructor AtoN operating administration center. It has been realization send protocol for information interchange.
