Purpose: This study was done to identify the Domains, Classes, labels and nursing activities of nursing interventions used with 117 patients who were admitted to orthopedic nursing units. Method: Data were collected in January and February, 2004 using a computerized nursing process program that contained nursing diagnosis-outcome-intervention (NNN) linkages. The program was developed by the researcher. Frequencies and percentages were used in the analysis. Results: Sixty-five nursing intervention labels were identified. The Domains of the nursing interventions showed higher percentages for 'physiological: basic' (75.9%), 'physiological: complex' (12.9%), 'behavioral'(7.8%) 'family'(1.3%), and 'safety'(1.1%). The Classes of nursing interventions showed higher percentages for 'activity and exercise management'(30.8%), 'physical comfort promotion'(19.3%), 'immobility management'(14.5%), 'drug management'(8.1%), and 'coping assistance'(5.6%). Nursing intervention labels showed higher percentages for 'pain management'(14.7%), 'body mechanics promotion'(8.0%), 'exercise therapy : ambulation'(7.2%), 'splinting'(5.4%), and 'positioning'(5.1%). In the comparison of numbers between performed nursing activities and nursing activities of NIC according to nursing intervention label, the mean of combined rate was 52.3%. Conclusion: These findings will help in building of a standardized language for orthopedic nursing units and enhance the quality of nursing care.
Even though enormous governmental expenses and scientists' efforts to find out definite causes and treatment methods of senile dementia have been investigated, little has been known in this area. Along with knowledge development of the etiology and treatment of the dementia, researchers have started to focus on improving the quality of life of the older adults with dementia through psychosocial intervention. This study was designed to propose a theoretical framework for establishing therapeutic environment for the older adults with dementia and for developing principles and strategies of caring. The results of this study were expected to help family members of the older adults with dementia to understand behavioral problems of the demented persons. The results can be utilized for health professionals to provide nursing interventions to reduce family caregivers' burden and to improve the quality of life of the older adults with dementia and their family. Caring principles developed from this study were as follows: 1. To minimize the stressors that can stimulate older adults with dementia. 2. To assess demented person's needs for safety and provide intervention based on the assessment. 3. To provide therapeutic environment for older adults with dementia to reduce confusion and to improve orientation. 4. To organize simple regular daily activities that older adults can anticipate. 5. To enhance demented person's self-esteem and self-confidence by providing supportive care. 6. To promote social interaction of the older adults with dementia by utilizing adequate activity programs.
Injuries of wrist in upper extremity is common onset in industrialized world. The development of joint arthroplasty and mechanical joint is area of research for biomechanical engineer and surgeon for a decade. Therefore. the knowledge of characteristic of joint motion is essential to develop the artificial wrist joint. In this study. the joint motions of wrist required for activities of daily living (ADLs). including personal hygiene and care. and general home activity were measured using flexible electrogoniometer. Total of 25 different daily activities were separated into four groups and tested on 15 subjects who did not show any abnormality of their joint functions. The maximum functional range of motion required for ADLs were obtained and standardized for analysis and comparison. Also. a least functional range of motion for ADLs were investigated. Results revealed that any significant differences were not found in least functional range of motion between left and right wrist to perform ADLs. However. a significant difference was found in different ADLs. Therefore. least range of motion obtained in this study can be used as basic data to design artificial joint and set a goal for surgeon to achieve appropriate treatment from patients.
This study is performed to determine the priorites of the evaluation factors for the improvement of fire emergency medical service by increasing it's efficiency to protect the people's lives effectively, and by recognizing it's mid-long term development. Based on the output of the analysis, the critical evaluation factors of the fire emergency medical services to be improved shall be identified, and shall be intended to use strategically for increasing the efficiency of all the activity in the EMT service, and also for providing the basic date to product and manage the good quality services. To calculate the priority of the evaluation factor for each level as shown on this study, AHP(anaysis hierarchy process) with pairwise comparison method is applied. According to the priority analysis for the evaluation factors in main category (evaluation zone), 'medical service professional aspect' is recognized as highest one, and 'service infrastructure aspect', 'service management aspect' are indicated in order. According to the priority analysis for the evaluation factors in evaluation index, 'professional personal arrangement' in the service infrastructure aspect, 'appropriateness and timeliness of emergency medical care' in the medical service professional aspect, and 'clinical training' in the service management aspect are respectively recognized as most important factors.
Background: Social support is an important factor in psycho-social well-being of cancer survivors. There is little information about level of social support and its predictors among cancer survivors in Iran or other Middle Eastern countries. The aims of present study were to determine the social support and its prediction factors among Iranian cancer survivors. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-correlational study 187 cancer patients in one educational center and one private oncology office in northwest of Iran participated using a convenient sampling method. The data collection tool consisted of a researcher-prepared checklist and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support Assessment (MSPSS). Data analysis was performed using SPSS statistical software with descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis. Results: The total score of MSPSS was 68 from a possible score between 7 and 84. Participants believed that they received a high level of support from their family members and significant others. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that single and depressed cancer survivors and participants with lower levels of physical activity believed that they received lower levels of social support. Conclusions: Iranian cancer survivors receive high levels of social support and family members are the most important source of this support. In planning any supportive care program for Iranian cancer survivors this strength should be considered. Especially, single and depressed and patients with lower levels of physical activity need more attention.
With a long-lasting pandemic of COVID-19, we have faced unprecedented socioeconomic threats. The regulation of human exchange has exposed us not only to the threat of health and medical care problems, but also to the burden of the contraction of economic activity. The outbreak of COVID-19 did give us an opportunity to reexamine the social safety net which has been prepared for such crisis situations. The current study, in this vein, aims to investigate the impact of evaluations of social safety nets on the trust in government and on individual willingness to accept tax increases. To this end, this study has explored the data from a survey conducted on 1,000 adult men and women across the country (South Korea) in May, 2020, when COVID-19 has entered a pandemic phase. The analysis result then has shown that the evaluation of social safety net after the outbreak of COVID-19 had a positive impact on the trust in the government, which in turn led to the increase of the willingness to accept tax increases. Moreover, the positive impact of trust in government on the willingness to accept tax increases has been more amplified when the income level was increased. These results could contribute to laying the theoretical foundation for restructuring the policies and systems for the post COVID-19 era.

The objective of this study is to describe the frequency of workplace health promotion activites. For this objective, questionaire was requested to 648 trainees of Korea Industrial Safety Corporation. Respondents' positions were safety manager, health care manager, or representatives of employee. Major findings are as follows: 1) Of responding workplaces, 66.2% supported the activities related to promote employees' health. The support rate was higher of Manufacturing and Tranport than others. And the lager workplaces had the higher support rate. 2) Most frequent activity is exercise program. But the prevalence of smoking cessation, stress management, nutrition education and women health care was very low. Major contents of support were to pay the cost of these activites and to equip the places or the facilities. 3) 24.9% had the non-smoking policy in the workplace. 98.6% equiped the places and facilities for employees. Mean number of facilities across all workplaces was 2.96 and that of exercise circles was 3.60. In conclusion, it was suggested that the stratege was needed to develop the Korean model for workplace health promotion on the basis of exisiting activites.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the adequacy of current nurse staffing levels by identifying nursing activities and workload. Methods: The study used a mixed-method design. A nursing activity survey was conducted using the work sampling method over 2 working days with 119 general ward nurses. A focus group interview was conducted with 12 nurses. Quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 and content analysis, respectively. Results: The most amount of time was spent on medication (in direct nursing) and electronic medical record documentation (in indirect nursing). The appropriate nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:7.7 for the day shift, 1:9.0 for the evening shift, and 1:11.9 for the night shift. However, the current nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:9.4, 1:11.0, and 1:13.8 for the day, evening, and night shifts, respectively. Therefore, the current nurse staffing level is insufficient for the workload. In the focus group interview, the main reasons cited for being unable to complete tasks within working hours were communication and coordination, and the nursing electronic medical record. The essential nursing activities of basic nursing and emotional support were overlooked owing to a heavy workload. Therefore, an adequate nurse staffing level should be higher than the measured quantitative workload. Conclusion: These results suggest the general wards of tertiary hospitals should evaluate the adequacy of their current nurse staffing and allocate sufficient nurses to improve patient safety and nursing care quality.
Objectives: Based on individual and environmental characteristics of low-income children, we developed a nutrition education program for school-aged children from low-income families according to effective use in social welfare centers. Methods: We conducted in-depth group interviews to assess program needs in 28 participants, 10 low-income school-aged children and 9 of their care givers, 9 social workers and 9 care-givers. Theoretical backgrounds of our program were heath belief model and social cognitive theory considering motivation, action and environment characteristics. Results: Based on the findings of this qualitative study, we developed major program themes and contents. Five selected key themes were 'balanced diet', 'processed food', 'food hygiene and safety', 'Korean healthy traditional diet', and 'family cooking' to induce changes in dietary behaviors. Main findings of in-depth group interviews included 'child's active participation', 'simple and easy to understand messages', and 'environmental constraints' such as a lack of child care at home, limited budget of social welfare centers, and less qualified educators for nutrition and health. Each lesson was constructed as a 1-hour program particularly emphasizing activity-based programs, including cooking and teamwork exercises. Program contents in each session consisted of activities that could induce outcome and value expectations, self-efficacy, perceived benefits, and barriers and cues to actions regarding diet behavior. Conclusions: We developed a nutrition education programthat is rarely available for low-income children in Korea, considering theoretical bases. Further studies are needed to validate our program.
