The study has been performed to estimated the quantity of ground water recharge using the DAWAST model for water balance analysis in the Youngsan & Sumjin watersheds. The mean safe yield of ground water is annually 41.3mm, corresponding to 85 $\times$106 ㎥ at the Naju station in the Youngsan watershed, and 76.6mm corresponding to 343 $\times$ 106 ㎥ at the Songjung station in the Sumjin watershed. It is remarkable because safe yield of ground water are estimated 44 to 64 % less than the quantities estimated in the other researches.
The evaluations of daily safe yield and reciprocal influence of hot spring wells are important subjects that the specialized agencies of hot spring has to survey. The survey of hot spring had been executed by Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) prior to 1996. However, as of 2006, eight specialized agencies of hot spring are working on it and so the survey of hot spring is not consistent now. This study was carried out to analyze data from hot spring in the same way by every specialized agency. The time of residual drawdown was applied to evaluate daily safe yield because some of wells have slow recovery of drawdown. The reciprocal influence between hot spring wells was evaluated by drawdown of observation wells when a new well was pumped.
There exist 5 wells drilled at the Yecheon hot spring area, the distance between the wells is about $159m{\sim}702.6m$. The safe yield of each well is controlled by interference drawdown between a pumping well and an observation well after pumping test. The well No. 2 and the well No. 5 are the closest, at the distance of 159 m; therefore interference drawdown between two wells was occurred considerably. The drawdown of the well No. 2 (an observation well) was 16.67 m; the drawdown of the well No. 5 (a pumping well) was 17.21 m. The degree of the interference is about 97% and the safe yield decreased from $750m^3/day\;to\;24m^3/day$. Significant interference between two wells is due to the fact that the aquifer has 1.5 dimensions.
The concept of safe yield places an emphasis on balancing groundwater withdrawal with groundwater recharge but ignores naturally occurring groundwater discharge. Because streams and their alluvial aquifers are closely linked in terms of water supply and water quality, to be properly understood and managed they must be considered together. Therefore, some districts in Kansas have reevaluated their safe-yield policies to account for natural groundwater discharge and stream-aquifer interactions by amending their safe-yield regulations to include a portion of baseflow as the minimum desirable streamflow (MDS). This study proposes a modified safe-yield policy in which the drought flow is chosen as the MDS. Baseflow separation was conducted from streamflow hydrograph and the results are presented as a flow-duration curve. The exploitable groundwater can be determined by subtracting MDS from the cumulative baseflow. This method was tested in the Musimcheon watershed, which was validated for streamflow using the SWAT-K model. The annually averaged exploitable groundwater in the whole watershed was estimated to be 86 mm. The exploitable groundwater amounts were also estimated for each subwatershed in the Musimcheon watershed.
This experiment was conducted with 30 adult wool producing Angora rabbits of either sex, to evaluate the effect of replacing soyflakes (SF), on equal protein basis, with low gossypol containing cottonseed meal (CSM) either alone or in combination with lysine and methionine; on the biological performance, total wool yield, wool yield per shearing, wool characteristics and mortality. Three experimental mash diets were prepared by incorporating SF (6%) as standard / control protein source $(T_1)$ and CSM (9%) as test protein source ($T_2$ and $T_3$). In $T_3$, amino acids-lysine and methionine (0.1 % each) were added. Animals were given the experimental diets about $150g{\cdot}day^{-1}{\cdot}head^{-1}$, for a period of 225 d or three shearing, and ad libitum Kudzu-vines. No significant effect of $T_2$ or $T_3$, on the body weight gain, total wool yield, wool yield per shearing and wool characteristics, was observed compared to $T_1$. However, the digestibility of dry matter, crude fibers, ether extract, acid detergent fibers, neutral detergent fibers, cellulose and hemicellulose was significantly (p<0.05) depressed in CSM based diets. Mortality of about 20% was recorded in $T_2$ and $T_3$, but not related to the addition of CSM or gossypol toxicity. More studies are needed to standardize the safe level of CSM, duration of safe feeding of CSM, and level of amino acids supplementation in CSM based diets.

This experiment was undertaken to study the relationship between dry weight of plant(DW) and yield components. varietal differences in seasonal production at each of three cutting. and to classiQ them into some patterns of seasonal production in tall fescue varieties. The varieties examined were Barvetia. Fuego, Demeter. Safe, Barcel. Forager, Johnstone. Enforcer and Stef. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The Fuego and Barcel with high number of tiller per plant(NT) which had more dry wieght of plant(DW) than those of varieties with low number of tillers per plant(NT) at each cutting. 2. The dry weight of plant(DW) in 1st cutting indicated positive significant correlation with the number of tillers per plant(NT) and dry weight of a tiller(WT). But there was only positive correlation between the number of tillers per plant(NT) and dry weight of plant(DW) in 2nd and 3rd cutting. 3. Mean relative yield of each cutting were 3 1 %. 29.7% and 39.3% in 1st. 2nd and 3rd cutting, respectively. 4. Tall fescue varieties could be classified into 3 different seasonal growth patterns according to their mode of relative yield at each cutting. Barvetia, Fuego, Johnstone. Enforcer and Stef belong to the group of ABA with high relative yield in 1st and 3rd cutting. Demeter, Safe and Forager belong to the group of CBA with relative yield increased linearly up to 3rd cutting. And, Barcel belong to the group of BAB with high relative yield in 2nd cutting.

A novel polymeric sunscreen agent was developed. It was prepared by the coupling reaction of 2-ethylhexyl 4-hydroxycinnamate with poly vinylbenzyl chloride(PVBC, average MW 6,500). In this reaction the reactivity was mostly affected by catalyst. In the absence of catalyst the yield was approximately 55% and in the presence of tetrabutylammonium bromide the yield was about 65%, but in the presence of tetrabutylammonium iodide the yield was 100% to give a average molecular weight 20,000 polymeric sunscreen agent. There were no side reactions, and its structure and purity were confirmed by various analytical methods, such as NMR, IR, and so on. UV radiation absorption efficiency is more than 70% compared with that of octyl methoxycinnamate. The solubility in polar oil, for example C12-15 alkylbenzoate and caprylic/capric triglyceride, is more than 50%. It showed high stability in the time course of test including acceleration test. This polymer is safe to skin because of poor permeability to skin, no side products in the process of preparing, and easy elimination of excess starting materials.

This study was conducted to investigate suitable rice cultivars for various rice based cropping systems in a paddy field in the Yeongnam plain area. Thirteen rice cultivars (5 early, 3 medium and 5 mid-late maturing cultivars) and three transplanting dates (June 5, June 25 and July 5) were evaluated in this study. The mid-late and early maturing cultivars for the July 5 and June 25 transplanting headed before August 30 which is the safe heading date in the Yeongnam plain area, ranging from Aug. 26 - 28 and Aug. 18 - 23, respectively. The safe harvest time of rice for double and triple cropping systems should be before the middle of October for the cultivation of the succeeding winter crops. The rice yield was the highest for the June 5 transplanting regardless of the rice cultivars, and it gradually decreased as the transplanting date was delayed from June 5 to July 5 due to a decrease in the spikelet numbers per panicle number and in the ripened grain rate. In contrast, the other yield parameters that include the panicle number per $m^2$, the 1,000-brown rice weight, and the ripened grain ratio were not significantly affected. The result indicates that based on the milled rice, heading time and harvest time, a medium maturing cultivar (Haiami and Samdeog) would be applicable to a winter barley/wheat, garlic/onion-summer rice double cropping, while a mid-late cultivar (Saeilmi, Saenuri and Hyunpoom) would be suitable for a spring potato/waxy corn-summer rice double cropping in the Yeongnam plain area. On the other hand, an early maturing cultivar (Unkwang, Jokwang and Haedamssal) would be preferable for a triple cropping because of the short growth period of rice.
Safety diagnosis of various structural components and facilities is indispensable for preventing catastrophic failure of material by time-dependent and environment accelerating degradation. Also, this diagnosis of operating components should be done periodically for safe maintenance and economical repair. However, conventional standard methods for mechanical properties have the problems of bulky specimen, destructive procedure and complex procedure of specimen sampling. So, a non-destructive and simple mechanical testing method using small specimen is needed. Therefore, an advanced indentation technique was developed as a potential method for non-destructive testing of in-field structures. This technique measures indentation load-depth curve during indentation and analyzes the mechanical properties related to deformation such as yield strength, tensile strength and work-hardening index. In this paper, we characterized the tensile properties including yield and tensile strengths of the V-modified Cr-Mo steels in petro-chemical and thermo-electrical plants. And also, the effects of hydrogen-assisted degradation of the V-modified Cr-Mo steels were analyzed in terms of work-hardening index and yield ratio.

An optimized spudcan was designed for the Southwestern Sea, an area mostly comprised of sand and soft clay layers. The spudcan was designed using guidelines by SNAME, ISO, and InSafeJIP, as well as the yield surface for combined loads. The probe test method was applied to define a yield surface used in estimating spudcan stability. Numerical analyses that considered vertical, horizontal, and moment loads in Southwestern Sea resulted in a design of 8 m diameter spudcan. Additionally, the empirical equations suggested by previous studies can estimate a reasonable spudcan bearing capacity at shallow depth. Each yield surface calculated from Mohr Coulomb and Hardening soil model showed different shapes, however the yield surface also grew with increasing spudcan diameter. This yield surface is a useful reference, along with site investigation results and published guidelines, to estimate the stability of a spudcan in the Southwestern Sea.
