  • Owing to the need to accommodate the load variation, thermal power plants need a modern controller in order to achieve better frequency regulation, faster response and higher efficiency. For a successful development of the digital instrumentation and control system that can adopt advanced control algorithms, power plant simulator must be available for safe and convenient test. In this paper, a simple drum-type boiler model is proposed using Signal Flow Diagram that describes the system by a combination of basic time responses representing the relationships between cause and effect process variables. After verifying the model and thereafter building a simulator based on the proposed model, we tested the operation of the controller and stability or efficiency of the implemented control algorithms.

  • Generally, grounding systems are responsible for the safe operation of a power system. Their performance guarantees equipment protection and personnel safety under condition of the limited ground potential rise and touch voltages as well as step voltages under ground fault conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to measure the ground resistance frequently for checking the performance of grounding system, In this paper the ground resistance measuring system using digital signal processor and high-performance L-C resonant band pass filter is presented. The signal current magnitude for measuring ground resistance in this system is $10^{-1}[A]\;to\;5\times10^{-2}[A]$ and the current frequency is 30[Hz].

  • The faults of the squirrel cage induction motor is grew increasingly complex as the faults resulting in the shorting of a stator winding and the broken rotor bar or cracked rotor end ring, bearing faults, and so on. The users of electrical machines initially relied on simple protections such as over-current, over-voltage, earth-fault, etc. to ensure safe and reliable operation. but this method cause heavy financial losses and the threat of safety therefore it has now become very important to diagnose faults at there very inception. in this paper, we are going to discuss the detection method of broken rotor bar of squirrel cage induction motor by the motor current signal analysis(MCSA) and the opening terminal voltage signal analysis.

  • Because of being operated to accomodate the load variation, fossile power plants need modern controller to satisfy frequency regulation, fast response and efficiency requirement. But in the way of developing the Digital Instrumentation and Control System that can adopt advanced control algorithms, power plant simulator must be available for safe and convenient test. In this paper, a simple drum-type boiler model is proposed, using Signal Flow Diagram that describes the system by a collection of basic time response representing the relationship between process variables. • The stress analysis of the pipeline is required in any kind of plant for its safe operation. For this, the displacement vibration data measured at many locations of the pipeline should be provided. In reality, the installation of the non-contact type displacement sensors such as laser displacement sensors or eddy current type proximity sensors in a narrow and confined region in the vicinity of the pipeline is almost impracticable. In this work, the general purpose piezo-ceramic accelerometers were attached on the measuring points on the pipeline and the acceleration vibration signal was acquired. The measured acceleration signal was low pass filtered and then downsampled. The resulting acceleration signal was transformed into both the time-domain and frequency-domain displacement signal utilizing the fast Fourier transform techniques. All the procedures are presented in detail. It is demonstrated that the measurement of the pipeline acceleration by using contact type accelerometers can be made for the purpose of providing the required displacement data for the stress analysis of the pipeline.

  • For safe operation of nuclear power plants, a loose-part monitoring system (LPMS) is used to detect and locate loose-parts within the reactor coolant system, and to estimate their mass and damage potential. There are several methods to estimate mass, such as the center frequency method based on the Hertz's impact theory, a frequency ratio method and so on, but it is known that these methods cannot provide accurate information on impact response for identifying the impact source. Thanks to increasing computing power, finite element analysis (FEA) method recently become an available option to calculate reliably impact response behavior. In this paper, a finite element analysis model to simulate the propagation behavior of the bending wave, generated by a metal ball impact, is validated by performing a series of impact tests and the corresponding finite element analyses for flat plate and shell structures. Also, a FEA-based metal sphere signal map is developed, and then blind tests are performed to verify the map. This study provides an accurate simulation method for predicting the metal impact behavior and for building a metal sphere signal map, which can be used to estimate the mass of loose-parts on site in nuclear power plants.

  • Train control by radio based communication is one of the interesting new fields in train signal. The radio based control has more benefits, low headway and low construction and maintenance cost, than conventional control. In this paper, a safe and efficient train operation is introduced. Triple radio communications, train to train, train to station, and train to central traffic control, are used to increase the reliability. One of these communications channels has a fault; the others can take the functions of it. Absolute position of a train is transmitted to station via radio communication. In the station, the interlocking mechanism should be activated as the legacy.

  • ATC facility manipulates ground-on-board information, which transmits speed limit, varying as wayside environments - safety facility, track gradient, inclination, bridge and tunnel and other factors, installed for safe operation of trains on wayside. Efficientiation and automatification of operation and maintenance is being realized, by measuring if there are any erroneous information, using a measuring car. In this paper, we study in priority the methods for measuring accurately distinctive properties of internal malfunctions of track circuits, the performance decrease of condensers, and the unbalance of return cables, which are actually required for functionality improvement of high-speed line signal measure facilities, by measuring the unbalance of return current given because of damaged factors of external track circuits.

  • In field of Urban transit safely, It must be not only secured vehicle but also every areas like power, signal, communication, track, tunnel, operating facilities. Likewise it is very important not only hardware system like vehicles, facilities but also software system like action of engine driver, duty officer. In other to secure safety of hardware, soft ware, it is very important systemic process. In Korea, Many operating companies neglect to invest in safely and ignore technical development about safety because of management. Safely was considered in subway system and many studies were accomplished about safety in subway system in advanced county like U.K, USA. Hence, in this paper, Conditions and improvement of minimum considerable hardware and software are proposed for safe operation in Urban transit.

  • Self-Powered Neutron Detectors(SPNDs) are used to calculate core power distributions, an essential factor in the safe operation of nuclear power plants. Some detectors may fail during normal operation, and signals from failed detectors are isolated from intact signals. The calculated detailed power distribution accuracy depends on the number of available detector signals. Failed detectors decrease the operating margin by enlarging the power distribution measurement error. Therefore, a thorough reconstruction of the failed detector signals is critical. This note suggests a compressive sensing based methodology that rationally reconstructs the readings of failed detectors. The methodology significantly improves reconstruction accuracy by sorting signals and removing high-frequency components from conventional compressive sensing methodology.
