As a preliminary study for detection techniques of $CO_2$ gas bubble plumes, we have conducted a comparative experiment on artificially generated $CO_2$ gas bubbles plume by using multibeam echosounder (MBES), single beam echosounder (SBES), and sub-bottom profiler (SBP). The rising speed of artificial gas bubbles is higher than references because of compulsory release of compressed gas in the tank. Compared to single beam acoustic equipments, the MBES detects wide swath coverage. It provides exact determination of the source position and 3D information on the gas bubble plumes in the water column. Therefore, it is shown that MBES can distinctly detect gas bubble plumes compared to single beam acoustic equipments. We can establish more effective complementary detection technique by simultaneous operation of MBES and SBES. Consequently, it contributes to improve qualitative and quantitative detection techniques by understanding the acoustic characteristics of the specific gas bubbles.

A high speed data link capability is one of the critical factors in determining the performance of the spaceborne SAR system with high resolution because of the strict requirement for the real-time data transmission of the massive SAR data in a limited time of mission. In this paper, based on the data link model characterized by the spaceborne small SAR system, the high rate multi-channel data link module is designed including link storage, link processor, transmitter, and wide-angle antenna. The design results are presented with the performance analysis on the data link budget as well as the multi-mode data rate in association with the SAR imaging mode of operation from high resolution to the wide swath. The designed data link module can be effectively used for the spaceborne and airborne applications which requires to expand the high speed data link capability.

A new High Resolution Geometry or HRG imaging instrument is developed by CNES to be carried on-board SPOT 5. The HRG instrument offers a higher ground resolution than that of the HRV/HRVIR on SPOT 1 - 4 satellites. The field width of HRG is 60 km, same as SPOT constellation. With two HRG instruments, a maximum swath of 120 km at 5 m resolution can be achieved. The generation of Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) from satellite stereo images scores over conventional methods of DEM generation using topographic maps and aerial photographs. This global availability of satellite images allows for quicker data processing for an equivalent area. In this study, a HRG stereo images of SPOT 5 over JECHEON has been used with Leica Photogrammetry Suite OrthoBASE Pro tool for the creation of a digital elevation model (DEM). The extracted DEM was compared to the reference DEM obtained from the contours of digital topographic map.
Electro-Optical Camera(EOC) is the main payload of Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite(KOMPSAT) with the mission of cartography to build up a digital map of Korean territory including Digital Terrain Elevation Map(DTEM). This instrument which comprises EOC Sensor Assembly and EOC Electronics Assembly produces the panchromatic images of 6.6 m GSD with a swath wider than 17 km by push-broom scanning and spacecraft body pointing in a visible range of wavelength, 510 ~ 730 nm. The high resolution panchromatic image is to be collected for 2 minutes during 98 minutes of orbit cycle covering about 800 km along ground track, over the mission lifetime of 3 years with the functions of programmable rain/offset and on-board image data storage. The image of 8 bit digitization, which is collected by a full reflective type F8.3 triplet without obscuration, is to be transmitted to Ground Station at a rate less than 25 Mbps. EOC was elaborated to have the performance which meets or surpasses its requirements of design phase. The spectral response the modulation transfer function, and the uniformity of all the 2592 pixel of CCD of EOC are illustrated as they were measured for the convenience of end-user. The spectral response was measured with respect to each gain setup of EOC and this is expected to give the capability of generating more accurate panchromatic image to the EOC data users. The modulation transfer function of EOC was measured as greater than 16% at Nyquist frequency over the entire field of view which exceeds its requirement of larger than 10%, The uniformity that shows the relative response of each pixel of CCD was measured at every pixel of the Focal Plane Array of EOC and is illustrated for the data processing.
Ocean Scanning Multispectral Imager (OSMI) is a payload on the Korean Multi-purpose SATellite (KOMPSAT) to perform worldwide ocean color monitoring for the study of biological oceanography. The instrument images the ocean surface using a whisk-broom motion with a swath width of 800 km and a ground sample distance (GSD) of < 1 km over the entire field-of-view (FOV). The instrument is designed to have an on-orbit operation duty cycle of 20% over the mission lifetime of 3 years with the functions of programmable gain/offset and on-board image data storage. The instrument also performs sun calibration and dark calibration for on-board instrument calibration. The OSMI instrument is a multi-spectral imager covering the spectral range from 400 nm to 900 nm using a CCD Focal Plane Array (FPA). The ocean colors are monitored using 6 spectral channels that can be selected via ground commands after launch. The instrument performances are fully measured for 8 basic spectral bands centered at 412nm, 443nm, 490nm, 510nm, 555nm, 670nm, 765nm and 865nm during ground characterization of instrument. In addition to the ground calibration, the on-board calibration will also be used for the on-orbit band selection. The on-orbit band selection capability can provide great flexibility in ocean color monitoring.
At present, environmental monitoring of linear infrastructure is based mainly on field sampling. The 'integrated mapping' approach has received only limited attention from field scientists. The increased environmental regulation of corridor targets has required remote sensing research to develop a sensor or technique for targets ranging from 15 m to 100 m in swath width. In an attempt to identify the optimal remote sensing system for linear targets, an overview is provided of the application requirements and the technology currently available. The relative limitation of traditional remote sensing systems in such a linear application is briefly discussed. It is noted that airborne video could provide, in a cost-effective manner, information required for a very narrow and long strip target utilising the narrow view angle and dynamic stereo coverage. The value of this paper is warranted in proposing a new concept of video infrastructure monitoring as a future research direction in the recognition of sensor characteristics and limitations.
We analyze a precise seabed feature around the Hupo Bank by using Multi-beam echosounder. Multi-beam echosounder system can observe the topography undulation according to the navigation of the survey ship by shooting wide beam. It is possible to embody a precision seabed feature because it can be make high density of incompletion depth sounding between survey lines. Through this survey, there is the Hupo Bank which is 84 km long, 1-15 km wide, 5.3-160 m deep in the center, at the west is moat, at the east is scarp and submarine canyon. The top of the Hupo Bank is the Wangdol reef that has 5.3 m in depth of water at least. Moat in survey area is 30 m long, and 30-40 m wide and has a depressed channel. The gap of depth of water in scarp is approximately 60 m and shows a characteristic of cuttig plane. Submarine canyon is 3.5 - 13.5 km wide.
The KOrea Multi-Purpose Satellite-3 (KOMPSAT-3) provides 0.7 m Ground Sample Distance (GSD) panchromatic image and 2.8 m GSD multi-spectral image data for various applications. The KOMPSAT-3 system data will be applied in the field of earth observations, covering land, sea, coastal zones, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). In order to keep the swath width of 15km at nadir view of KOMPSAT-3, CCD consist of approximately 24,020 pixels excluding 20 dark pixels at both sides and has overlap region. Because there are no CCD-line sensors with a pixel size of $7{\mu}m$, the field of view is separated into 2 parts and imaged on 2 detectors, each with 12,080 pixels. Therefore, 2 detectors have different geometric characteristic. This paper provides image simulation for geometric characteristics analysis of overlapping area of KOMPSAT-3 using KOMPSAT-2 image data.

A method was proposed which employed control of the drop location of fertilizer particles on a spinner disc to optimize the spread pattern uniformity. The system contained an optical sensor as a feedback mechanism, which measured discharge velocity and location, as well as particle diameters to predict a spread pattern of a single disc. Simulations showed that the feed gate adaptation algorithm produced high quality patterns for any given application rate in the dual disc spreader. The performance of the feed gate control method was assessed using data collected from a Sulky spinner disc spreader. The results showed that it was always possible to find a spread pattern with an acceptable CV lower than 15%, even though the spread pattern was obtained from a rudimentary flat disc with straight radial vanes. A mathematical optimization method was used to find the initial parameter settings for a specially designed experimental spreading arrangement, which included the feed gate control system, for a given flow rate and swath width. Several experiments were carried out to investigate the relationship between the gate opening and flow rate, disc speed and particle velocity, as well as disc speed and predicted landing location of fertilizer particles. All relationships found were highly linear ($r^2$ > 0.96), which showed that the time-of-flight sensor was well suited as a feedback sensor in the rate and uniformity controlled spreading system.
The MSC is a payload on the KOMPSAT-2 satellite to perform the earth remote sensing. The instrument images the earth using a push-broom motion with a swath width of 15 km and a GSD(Ground Sample Distance) of 1 m over the entire FOV(Field Of View) at altitude 685 km. The instrument is designed to haute an on-orbit operation duty cycle of 20% over the mission lifetime of 3 years with the functions of programmable gain/offset and on-board image data compression/storage. The MSC instrument has one channel for panchromatic imaging and four channel for multi-spectral imaging covering the spectral range from 450nm to 900nm using TDI(Time Belayed Integration) CCD(Charge Coupled Device) FPA(Focal Plane Assembly). The MSC hardware consists of three subsystem, EOS(Electro Optic camera Subsystem), PMU(Payload Management Unit) and PDTS(Payload Data Transmission Subsystem) and each subsystems are currently under development and will be integrated and verified through functional and space environment tests. Final verified MSC will be delivered to spacecraft bus for AIT(Assembly, Integration and Test) and then COMSAT-2 satellite will be launched after verification process through IST(Integrated Satellite Test). In this paper, the introduction of MSC, the configuration of MSC electronics including electrical interlace and design of CEU(Camera Electronic Unit) in EOS are described. MSC Operation parameters induced from the operation concept are discussed and analyzed to find the influence of system for on-orbit operation in future.
