  • A numerous oil slicks of natural origin were revealed in the southwest (SW) part of Caspian Sea by the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images acquired by Envisat satellite in 2003-2004. On the basis of computer processing, visual analysis of SAR images and comparisons with bathymetry, geophysical and seismic data in geographic information system (GIS), a link between these slicks and unloading of liquid hydrocarbons in the SW Caspian is established. Oil slicks are basically concentrated above domes of local geological formations of the sedimentary cover. In total more than 90 seeps and mud volcanoes having a repeating regime and representing an active type were identified; they are distributed across the SW Azerbaijan and West Iranian sectors. Periodical occurrence of slicks can reflect alternation of mud volcanism pulses forced by intensive seismicity with the quiet periods. Seepage rate of oil in the SW part of the Caspian Sea according to SAR images is estimated to be up to 16,000 metric tons per year. The importance of unloading of oils on hydrochemistry and ecological conditions of the Caspian Sea is demonstrated. Conclusion is done that the Envisat SAR to be an excellent tool for studying oil seeps through observation oil slicks floating on the sea surface.

  • This paper proposes an efficient scheme to estimate the channel parameters such as channel gain and delay for the IEEE802.15.4a LR-UWB systems. Sliding window (SW) method is generally used for the channel estimation of LR-UWB systems, which extracts the channel parameters by performing the cross-correlation with the repeatedly transmitted signal. However, the SW method experiences the severe performance degradation because the cross-correlation is performed just once for the received signal. In this paper, we propose a novel channel estimation scheme, which can achieve a great performance gain by performing the cross-correlation repeatedly with the repeated receive signal. In order to verify the performance gain of the proposed scheme, we performed the intensive simulation with the Saleh-Valenzuela channel model. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has a performance improvement of 4dB compared to the conventional SW channel estimation scheme.

  • This paper is the Software Hazard Analysis (SWHA) which will study the managerial process and the technical methode and techniques inherent in the performance of software safety task within the Military Aircraft System Safety program. This SWHA identifies potential hazardous effects on the software intensive systems and provides a comprehensive and qualitative assessment of the software safety. The purpose of this paper is to identify safety critical functions of software in Military A/C. The identified software hazards associated with the design or function will be evaluated for risks and operational constraint to further improve the software design requirement, analysis and testing efforts for safety critical software. This common SWHA, the first time analysis in KOREA, was review all avionics OFP(Operational Flight Program), and focus only on software segments which are safety critical. This paper provides a important understanding between the customer and developer as to how the software safety for the Military A/C will be accomplished. It will also provide the current best solution which may as one consider the necessary step in establishing a credible and cost-effective software safety program.

  • There is a growing interest in project management knowledge, project management information systems, and process improvement to systematically project execution in public sectors, achieve high performance and value, and increase the effectiveness of the overall industry. In particular, the software industry is a knowledge-intensive industry centered on professional manpower. This study examines the effect of the project managers' competences of regional SW promotion agencies on and project performance and the moderating effect of the level of project management maturity. We collected data using a questionnaire to the project managers of regional SW promotion agencies. In this study, a structural equation model was used to analyze the relationship between project managers' competences and performance. In addition, a multi-group structural equation model was used to analyze the moderating effect according to the high and low project maturity. As a result of the analysis, it was found that only contextual competence among the competences of the project manager had a positive effect on project performance. It was found that technical and behavioral competence did not have a positive effect on management and completion performance. It was found that the moderating effect according to the maturity of business management of local institutions was not significant.

  • The software architecture is an essential part of a software-intensive system. In addition, the architecture evaluation is a very important process and a cheap way to avoid a software disaster. This article introduces a new method to evaluate architecture by maturity levels. Maturity Models which are about software and software process, have gained wide scale acceptance over the last decade. We are applying these techniques to the software architecture and propose SW(Software Architecture Maturity appraisal Model). SAMM consists of six-levels. We expect that our maturity model SAMM describe the requirements that any architecture must have in order to improve its software architecture design and constitute a proven architecture within which to manage the improvement efforts. We can reduce our effort to design architecture, have a guideline to construct the high qualify architecture with SAMM, and evaluate architecture and make architecture level.

  • Recently public and finance SI (system integration) industry is called as 4D (difficult, dangerous, dirty, dreamless) industry because of low profit, overtime works and poor motivation of employees. Even some people think at SI industry to be a labor intensive industry instead of a high technology industry. The current study considers outside environmental change of SI industry as well as inside capability enhancement of SI companies. The study adopted action research method with the author's expertise and experiences as a head of a major SI company in Korea. The current research framework suggests 5 areas of profitability enhancement that offers propositions and implications. 5 areas of profitability enhancement are (1) policy improvement, (2) business portfolio innovation (3) sales capability reinforcement, (4) delivery capability reinforcement, and (5) cost management innovation. The five areas include 11 propositional factors and 21 implementation plans which were chosen from the profitability perspectives of SI companies. In order to successfully execute propositions and implementation plans of the framework, 3 years is needed and after 3 years profitability are expected to increase 10% higher than the current level. The framework, propositions and suggestions in this study are expected to offer a real contribution for SI companies that want to enhance competitiveness and profitability. Future extension of the current study to benchmarking the competitiveness and profitability between local companies and global companieswill bring a solid attention from industry and academics.
