This study was performed to investigate the optimized warm forming conditions which gave the maximum drawing depth in square cup drawing of clad sheet metals, by changing the temperatures of die and blankholder and also shapes and materials of blanks. Two kinds of clad sheet metals, STS304-A1050-STS304 and STS304-A1050-STS430 were selected for experiments. The relative drawing depth of STS304-A1050-STS304 clad sheet was increased up to 4.4 at $150^{\circ}C$ that was 29% higher than at room temperature, whereas STS304-A1050-STS430 material was improved to 3.9 at $120^{\circ}C$ which was 15% better than at room temperature. In addition, comparison of wall thickness and hardness of a warm drawn cup with those of room temperature showed more even distributions. No separation between each laminated material after drawing occurred through inspection by microscope as well as application of penetrant test and bond strength test. Therefore, warm forming technique was confirmed to give better results in deep drawing of stainless clad sheet metal.
This study examined the phase changes, nitride precipitation and variation in mechanical properties of STS 304, STS 321 and STS 316L austenitic stainless steels after high temperature gas nitriding (HTGN) at temperature ranges from $1050^{\circ}C\;to\;1150^{\circ}C$. Fine round type of $Cr_2N$ nitrides were observed in the surface layers of 304 and 316L steels, even more in STS 321. Additionally, square type of TiN was found in STS 321 austenitic matrix too. As a result of many precipitates in the surface layer of the STS 321, it was seen $370{\sim}470Hv$ hardness variation depending on the HTGN treatment conditions, and interior region of austenite represented 150Hv. The surface hardness value of STS 304 and STS 316L showed $255{\sim}320Hv$, respectively. The nitrogen content was shown 0.27, 1.7 and 0.4% respectively at the surface layers of the STS 304, STS 321 and STS 316L. After the HTGN it was shown the improvement of corrosion resistance of the STS 321 and STS 316L compared with solution annealed steels in the solution of 1N $H_2SO_4$ whereas the STS 304 was not.
The corrosion resistance of super duplex stainless steel on both its fibrous and dispersed phase was investigated. These structures consist of various volume fraction and distribution of austenite structure, which were obtained by changing the heat treatment temperature and cycle. The fibrous phase had higher austenite volume fraction than that of the dispersed phase at the same temperature. Corrosion resistance of super duplex stainless steel was evaluated through an immersion test and an impingement test, using 35% HCI and sea water, respectively. Super duplex stainless steel was compared with STS316L and STS304. The corrosion resistance of super duplex stainless steel was superior to ST316L and STS304. The dispersed phase of super duplex stainless steel was more stabilized than the fibrous phase in corrosion. The magnitude of corrosion rate was in order STS304, STS316L, fibrous phase of super duplex stainless steel and dispersed phase of super duplex stainless steel.

The tensile tests to identify the statistical tensile properties and the acoustic emission characteristics were conducted for STS304 stainless steel at $600^{\circ}C,\;700^{\circ}C$. From tensile tests performed by constant cross head speed controls with 1mm/min, rates at each elevated temperature, the scatters were observed in tensile strength, reduction of area, elongation and the acoustic emission parameters. The effect of temperature on the scatter of tensile behavior was larger at $700^{\circ}C$. The distributions of tensile properties was well followed in 3-parameter Weibull. The AE counts and energy of the $700^{\circ}C$ specimens were smaller than the $600^{\circ}C$.

The general manufacturing problem can be described as the achievement of a predefined product quality with given equipment, cost and time constraints. Unfortunately, for some quality characteristics of a product such as surface roughness it is hard to ensure that these requirements will be met. Stainless steels STS 304 is frequently used as shaft materials in small fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) fishing boats. In this work, the dry turning parameters of STS 304 are optimized by using Taguchi method. The experiments were conducted at three different cutting speeds with three different feed and three different depth of cut. The cutting parameters are optimized using signal to noise ratio and the analysis of variance. The effects of cutting speed and feed on surface roughness was analyzed. The results revealed that the spindle speed is the more significant parameter influencing the surface roughness.
Friction surfacing of STS304 consumable rod on S45C substrate was investigated by microstructural observation and mechanical tests. STS304 layer formed a strongly-bonded thick layer under a wide range of surfacing conditions. The hardness distribution showed the peak value in the boundry layer, while the highest coating efficiency obtained in the condition of 1000rpm-2.5mm/sec-2.5mm/sec. As the consumable rotation rate and the traveling rate increased, the coating efficiency tended to decrease. On the other hand, as the feeding rate increased, the coating efficiency appeared to be increased.

Mechanical characteristics of the STS 304 which is heat resistance steel were investigated after artificial aging at $650^{\circ}C$ with 1,000 hours. Tensile test specimens and small test pieces were done artificial aging up to 1,000 hours in the high temperature atmospheric environment. The results present that as the aging time increased, tensile properties were deteriorated. In the case of failure mechanism, the configuration of the fractography presented drastic change from ductile to brittle with aging time. $M_{23}C_6$ carbide leading to the change of the mechanical properties and fracture mode of the aged STS 304 steel continuously precipitated along the grain boundaries of austenite microstructure.

Warm draw die technique which is one of the new forming technologies to improve formability of sheet metal is applied to the cylindrical and square cup drawing of stainless-aluminum clad sheets. In experiments the temperature of die and blank holder is varied from room temperature to $180^{\circ}C$, while the punch is cooled by circulation of coolant to increase the fracture strength of workpiece on the punch comer area. Test materials chosen for experiments are STS304-A1050-STS304 clad sheets. Teflon film as a lubricant is used on both sides of a workpiece. The limit drawing ratio and relative drawing depth as well as quality of drawn cups(distribution of thickness)are investigated and validity of warm drawing process is also discussed. No separation between each laminated material after drawing occurred through inspection by microscope as well as application of penetrant remover and bond strength test. Therefore, warm forming technique was confirmed to give better results in deep drawing of stainless clad sheet metal.
