A Geoacoustic Model at the SSDP-101 Long-core Site in the Korea Strait

  • The Korea Strait comprises a continental shelf in a shallow sea that experienced glacio-eustastic sea-level changes during the Quaternary period. A long core of 76.6 m in length was acquired at the South Sea Drilling Project site (SSDP-101; 34°19.666'E and 128°16.335'N) with a 60 m water deep. The uppermost massive sand beds were interpreted as sandy sediments of the nearshore marine sand ridge in the shallow sea during the transgression of sea level, whereas the lower parts of alternating sandy and muddy beds were interpreted as deposits in marsh, estuary, and tidal flat environments. A three-layered geoacoustic model was reconstructed for the sedimentary succession in the high-resolution seismic profile based on a 140-grain size and sediment type of core SSDP-101. For the actual underwater simulation and experiments, the in-situ P-wave speeds were calculated using the sound speed ratio of the Hamilton method.

Value of Ensemble Streamflow Forecasts for Reservoir Operations during the Drawdown Period (이수기 저수지 운영을 위한 앙상블 유량예측의 효용성)

  • Korea Water Resources Corporation(KOWACO) has developed the Integrated Real-time Water Management System(IRWMS) that calculates monthly optimal ending target storages by using Sampling Stochastic Dynamic Programming(SSDP) with Ensemble Streamflow Prediction(ESP) running on the $1^{st}$ day of each month. This system, however, has a shortcoming: it cannot reflect the hydrolmeteorologic variations in the middle of the month. To overcome this drawback, in this study updated ESP forecasts three times each month by using the observed precipitation series from the $1^{st}$ day of the month to the forecast day and the historical precipitation ensemble for the remaining days. The improved accuracy and its effect on the reservoir operations were quantified as a result. SSDP/ESP21 that reflects within-a-month hydrolmeteorologic states saves $1\;X\;10^6\;m^3$ in water shortage on average than SSDP/ESP01. In addition, the simulation result demonstrated that the effect of ESP accuracy on the reduction of water shortage became more important when the total runoff was low during the drawdown period.

  • 우리나라는 계절적으로 편중된 강우특성 때문에 이수관리와 치수관리가 분리될 수 없고, 하천유역 상 하류의 수량과 수질은 유기적으로 연관되어 있으므로 수자원관리는 하천유역단위로 통합적으로 이루어져야 한다. 특히 한정된 수자원으로 하천의 수량과 수질 목표를 동시에 달성하기 위해서는 물의 수요와 공급을 실시간 정보로 획득하면서 기상과 유출 분석기술을 활용하여 운영기간 동안의 용수수요와 공급을 예측하고, 이를 바탕으로 하천과 저수지의 수량과 수질을 고려한 유역 저수지군 시스템의 최적 물공급계획을 수립 시행할 수 있도록 지원하는 통합 물관리 Toolkit과 운영 기술이 필요하다. '유역통합 물관리시스템(IRWMS)'은 유역의 유출량 산정과 예측을 담당하는 유역유출 예측시스템(RRFS)과 연동하여 장 단기 저수지군 시스템의 최적운영 의사결정을 지원하기 위한 월단위 최적운영모형(SSDP), 일단위 최적운영모형(CoMOM), 그리고 유역물배분 모의운영모형(KModSim)이 포함되어 있다. RRFS로부터 예측된 수계내 소유역별 유입량 및 수요량(농업, 공업, 생활용수) 정보를 토대로, SSDP 또는 SSDP-CoMOM 연계모형으로부터 구한 월 또는 일 단위 최적저류량 및 방류량을 산정, 이를 KModSim 모형에 입력하여 장 단기 모의를 통하여 유역 물관리 의사결정의 최종단계에 해당하는 저수지군 최적방류량 결정에 필요한 정보 및 시나리오를 제공하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 개발된 저수지운영 요소모형들을 이용하여 금강수계 저수지군의 연계운영에 적용하였다.

Holocene sea-level rise and paleoenvironmental changes in Korea Strait shelf (대한해협 대륙붕 해역의 홀로세 해수면 상승과 고환경변화)

  • A 31m-long sediment core (SSDP-102) was taken from the inner shelf (about 40m water-depth) off the northwestern coast of the Korea Strait. Detailed lithofacies and organic-geochemical analyses were performed to establish a high-resolution stratigraphy in the Korea Strait shelf and to reconstruct the paleoenvironmental changes associated with the Holocene marine transgression. The stratigraphic framework of the core was primarily established using 6 AMS $^{14}C$ ages. The sedimentary record of the core SSDP-102 allows for the reconstruction of the paleoenvironmental changes during the last 12.1 ka BP. According to the high-resolution seismic reflection profiles, lithofacies and organic-geochemical data, the core SSDP-102 can be divided into three units (III to I in ascending order) above the acoustic basement. The three units reflect distinct changes of depositional environments resulted from the post-glacial marine transgression. Therefore, it is suggested that three phases of sea-level change have occurred within the inner shelf of the Korea Strait following the Holocene marine transgression. (1) estuarine environments from ca. 12.1 to 6.2 ka BP; (2) near-shore environments with a period of decreased rising of sea level between 6.2 and 5.1 ka BP; (3) near-shore to modem marine environments after 5.1 ka BP. In particular, the present marine conditions influenced by the warm Tsushima Current have been gradually established after ca. 5.1 ka BP.

  • MicroSoft Windows 10 IoT version, released in August 2015, successfully drew consumer interest by introducing the familiar Windows into the IoT market, and enabled an easier system construction of IoT web servers. Meanwhile, overdiagnosis has recently emerged as a controversy in medical society. Establishment of communication between IoT servers and medical devices will send treatment results to users and activate communication between hospitals, greatly reducing this problem. The IoT server, with its limited resources, utilizes lightweight protocols that do not generate traffic and are easy to use. This paper proposes IoT networks which will enable medical devices to easily provide ubiquitous environments to their users, through utilization of the lightweight Simple Service Discovery Protocol (SSDP) and the secure Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP).

Reservoir Operating System Using Sampling Stochastic Dynamic Programming for the Han River Basin (표본 추계학적 동적계획법을 사용한 한강수계 저수지 운영시스템 개발)

  • Korea water resources corporation (K-Water) has developed the real-time water resources management system for the Nakdong and the Geum River basin to efficiently operate multi-purpose dams in the basins. This study has extended to the Han River basin for providing an effective ending target storage of a month to the real-time water resources management system using Sampling Stochastic Dynamic Programming (SSDP), consequently increasing the efficiency of the reservoir system. The optimization model were developed for three reservoirs, named Soyang, Chungju, and Hwacheon, with high priority in terms of the amounts of effective capacity and water supply for the basin. The number of storage state variable for each dam to set an optimization problem has been assigned from the results of sensitivity analysis. Compared with the K-water operating policy with the target water supply elevations, the optimization model suggested in this study showed that the shortfalls are decreased by 37.22 MCM/year for the required water demands in the basin, even increasing 171 GWh in hydro electronic power generation. In addition, the result of a reservoir operating system during the drawdown period applied to real situation demonstrates that additional releases for water quality or hydro electronic power generation would be possible during the drawdown period between 2007 and 2008. On the basis of these simulation results, the applicability of the SSDP model and the reservoir operating system is proved. Therefore, the more efficient reservoir operation can be achieved if the reservoir operating system is extended further to other Korean basins.

  • The service discovery method is an important technology finding and offering users' desirable services in smart meeting spaces. Extensive researches of the service discovery methods are achieved: SSDP(simple service discovery protocol) of UPnP(universal plug & play) and so on. However, there are several limitations to satisfy the requirements of service discovery in smart meeting spaces. In this paper, the requirements of service discovery in smart meeting spaces are investigated and the service discovery method based on multi-agent system is proposed in the practical aspect. Additionally, we explore the possibilities of the proposed approach by implementing a couple of services belonging to the smart meeting spaces.

  • 우리나라의 한강, 낙동강, 금강, 섬진강, 그리고 영산강 유역에는 하나 이상의 저수지가 포함되어 있어 유역통합관리를 위한 의사결정지원시스템에 있어 저수지 운영기술은 필수적인 항목 중 하나이다. 반면, 적정한 저수지 운영율이 확립되어 있지 않아 저수지 운영을 고려한 유역통합관리에 어려움이 있으며, 저수지 운영율을 통합관리시스템에 적용하기 위한 적용방법 또한 확립되어 있지 않은 형편이므로 이에 대한 방안이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 실적자료를 이용하여 금강유역의 용담댐과 대청댐 운영율을 구하고 수문학적상태를 이용하여 운영율을 적용방법을 제안하였다. 운영율을 구하기 위하여 금강유역에서 25년간의 일단위 유량자료와 저수지 운영자료를 수집하였으며, 수집된 자료를 토대로 실제 운영에 기반한 운영율을 개발하였다. 기존에 개발 검증된 금강유역의 네트워크 시스템에 개발된 운영율을 적용하기 위하여 수문학적상태를 사용하며 그 결과를 조절점의 실측유량 및 실적저수위, SSDP 저수위, SSDP-CoMOM 저수위를 사용한 명시적인 저수지 운영결과와 비교함으로써 개발된 운영율의 적용성을 검토하였다.

  • The spread of IoT (Internet of Things) technology that connects objects based on wired / wireless networks is accelerating, and IoT-based smart home technology that constitutes a super connected network connecting sensors and home appliances existing inside and outside the home is getting popular. In addition, demand for alternative energy technologies such as photovoltaic power generation is rapidly increasing due to rapid increase of consumption of energy resources. Recently, small solar power systems for general households as well as large solar power systems for installation in large buildings are being introduced, but they are effectively implemented due to limitations of small solar panels and lack of power management technology. In this paper, we have studied smart home structure and IoT / IoL device discovery algorithm for energy harvesting system based on photovoltaic power generation, It is possible to construct an efficient smart home system for device control.

  • In this paper, we have implemented UPnP Devices which emulate a Control Point, a Light Controller, and a Digital TV. The Control Point has been developed on Linux host system by using C language. The UPnP Devices emulating the Digital TV and Light Controller are running on embedded linux developer board. For the development of UPnP Devices, UPnP SDK API Vl.04 made by Intel Co. Ltd. has been ported on Assabet Linux Reference board to implement the UPnP protocol. After we analyze and design some services of Digital TV device, we have applied UPnP Device program to those devices. UPnP SDK vl .04 consists of APIs which support HTTP, SSDP, SOAP, GENA and XML DOM Level-1 that are cores of UPnP protocol. The C program written for the UPnP Control Point has been compiled and executed on Linux-based PC. The embedded system running on Embedded Linux OS has been connected all together through Ethernet which allows IP-based communications. Under this environment, the UPnP programs are being executed on each device. Control Point, when in operational mode, discovers UPnP Devices on the network and displays the device list on the consol. By selecting one of the functionalities of the device services that are displayed on the Control Point, the controllability has been accomplished. The experiment that we performed in this thesis have revealed that the Control Point and UPnP Devices have supported the protocols including SSDP, SOAP, GENA, and DHCP.
