  • In order to investigate the speed profile of data I/O of HDD, we have developed an utility program. The application to HDD reveals the detail properties of the speed profile of HDD and the relation between the cylinder structure of HDD and the velocity profile. For the extent application, the experiment of the large volume storage was performed, and the profile of SSD media, which is known as the new rapid media, was measured. The new M.2 NVME SSD, which has the ability of over 10Gbps, we can compare the velocities between cp under linux O/S and the utility, and shows that the performance of the utility can be reliable.

  • The flash translation layer(FTL) of SSD maps the logical page number requested from the host to the actual recorded flash memory page number. It is very important to reduce the amount of RAM used to manage the mapping information. In the existing demand-based FTLs, two-level method is applied in which mapping information is also recorded in flash memory pages and only their addresses are managed as a table in RAM. As the capacities of SSDs are growing to tens of terabytes, the amount of RAM for mapping table becomes too large. In this paper, ML-FTL was proposed as a method of managing mapping information in three levels to reduce the amount of RAM required drastically. From an evaluation, the increase in overhead was minimal compared to the conventional two-level method by properly utilizing cache.

  • This paper proposes a solution for storage and retrieval problems for Resource Description Framework (RDF) data utilizing a key-value Solid State Device (SSD), considering storage, retrieval performance, and security. We propose a two-step compression algorithm to separate logical relationship and true values from RDF data-sets using the key-value SSD. This improves not only compression and storage efficiency but also storage security. We also propose a hybrid retrieval structure based on R∗-tree to enhance retrieval efficiency and implement a sort-merge join algorithm, and discuss factors affecting R∗-tree retrieval efficiency. Finally, we show the proposed approach is superior to current compression, storage, and retrieval approaches, obtaining target results faster while requiring less space, and competitive in terms of versatility, flexibility and security.

  • In the case where both a camera and a target are moving at the same time, the image background is successively changed, and the overlap with other moving objects is apt to be generated. The snake algorithms have been variously used in tracking the object, but it is difficult to be applied in the excessive overlap with other objects and the large bias between the snake and the target. To solve this problem, this paper presents an extended snake model. It includes an additional energy function which considers the temporal variation rate of the snake's area and a SSD algorithm which generates the template adaptive to the snake detected in the previous frame. The new energy function prevents the snake from over-shrinking or stretching and the SSD algorithm with adaptively changing template allows the prediction of the target's position in the next frame. The experimental results have shown that the proposed algorithm successfully tracks the target even when the target is temporarily occluded by other objects.

  • In this paper, we design SSD(simultaneous single band duplex) system using RF(radio frequency) cancellation and digital cancellation. we analyze characteristic of residual self-interference after RF Cancellation signal when error of phase shifter occur in RF cancellation. When phase shifter error of $0^{\circ}$, $0.5^{\circ}$, $1^{\circ}$ and $2^{\circ}$ occur in RF cancellation, residual self-interference signal power after RF cancellation is bigger than desired signal power of distant station. So, it is impossible to receive transmit data of distant station. but we confirm that it is possible to receive transmit data of distant station by digital cancellation with frame structure. Also, in digital cancellation with frame structure, if residual self-interference signal after RF cancellation is too large then LMS algorithm requires more time to estimate self-interference channel. That is, performance degradation occurs because self-interference channel estimation has not completed in estimation frame.

  • Usually, a new SSD (Solide State Drive) product is developed based on the software platform of the previous product. Therefore, when using the same test case was used to evaluate the previous generation evaluation of new products are a number of advantages may be, but a priority or weight is the inefficiency exists in the use of the evaluation resources due to not considered. A new method is proposed to prevent the waste of testing resources. Through the analysis of the evaluation data for the previous products, the combinations of testing cases with the highest probability for defect detections are identified. When the software is to be reused, most part of the base software platform is rarely modified and only some modules are added or modified. So, the whole software system may have similar types of defects with the previous products. By utilizing the evaluation data for the previous proucts, we can detect defects at an early stage.

  • Virtualization has become one of the most helpful techniques in computing systems, and today it is prevalent in several computing environments including desktops, data-centers, and enterprises. However, since I/O layers are implemented to be oblivious to the I/O behaviors on virtual machines (VM), there still exists an I/O scalability issue in virtualized systems. In particular, when a multi-queue solid state drive (SSD) is used as a secondary storage, each system reveals a semantic gap that degrades the overall performance of the VM. This is due to two key problems, accelerated lock contentions and the I/O parallelism issue. In this paper, we propose a novel approach, including the design of virtual CPU (vCPU)-dedicated queues and I/O threads, which efficiently distributes the lock contentions and addresses the parallelism issue of Virtio-blk-data-plane in virtualized environments. Our approach is based on the above principle, which allocates a dedicated queue and an I/O thread for each vCPU to reduce the semantic gap. Our experimental results with various I/O traces clearly show that our design improves the I/O operations per second (IOPS) in virtualized environments by up to 155% over existing QEMU-based systems.
