  • In this research, our goal was to explore the potential use of cement mortar augmented with liquid red mud. To facilitate this, we neutralized liquid red mud(LR) - exhibiting a pH of 10-12 - using sulfuric acid to yield sulfuric acid neutralized red mud(SR). We then evaluated the flow, setting time, and compressive strength of the cement mortar combined with liquid red mud, while also performing a thorough examination of its chemical properties through X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The flow tests indicated a decrease in flow values for both MS-LR and MS-SR in comparison to the Plain. Analogously, the setting time for MS-LR and MS-SR was found to be abbreviated when juxtaposed with the Plain. With regards to compressive strength, MS-LR demonstrated a surge in strength at the 1-day mark, while MS-SR displayed a diminution at the 1-day and 3-day timepoints compared to the Plain. XRD analysis illustrated that after 28 days, the XRD patterns of Plain and MS-SR bore significant resemblance, though a new peak was detected in MS-LR. SEM imagery highlighted that the microstructures of Plain and MS-SR were alike, but MS-LR manifested a distinct microstructure, characterized by a finely fibrous formation. Based on these observations, we infer that the replacement of cement mortar with liquid red mud neutralized with sulfuric acid contributes to a noticeable enhancement in strength, thereby verifying its suitability for this application.

  • The Naedeokri and Nonggeori granites are early Proterozoic granites of the Taebaek-Sangdong area in the northeastern part of the Yeongnam Massif. In this paper, rare earth elements (REEs) concentrations of the minerals in Naedeokri and Nonggeori granites and Rb-Sr mineral isochron age are reported. Except zircon, the constituent minerals such as mica, feldspar, quartz, and tourmaline show LREE-enriched and HREE-depleted REE patterns with relatively large Eu negative anomaly. However, zircon has geochemical characteristic of LREE- and HREE-enriched REE pattern with large Eu positive anomaly. This pattern suggests that zircon should be hydrothermal zircon due to deuteric hydrothermal alteration. In addition, the Rb-Sr mineral age of Naedeokri granite indicates an age value of 1.814±142(2σ) Ma. The Rb-Sr whole rock age including pervious data of Naedeokri and Nogggeori granite indicates an age value of 1,707±74(2σ) Ma. This value is younger than the Sm-Nd isochron of 1.87 Ga, indicating that the Rb-Sr isotope system may be re-homogenized by hydrothermal alteration during the transition from a magmatic to a hydrothermal system.

  • BiSrCaCuO thin films were fabricated by atomic layer-by-layer deposition using an ion beam sputtering method. 10 wt% and 90 wt% ozone mixed with oxygen were used with ultraviolet light irradiation to assist oxidation. At early stages of the atomic layer by layer deposition, two dimensional epitaxial growth which covers the substrate surface would be suppressed by the stress and strain caused by the lattice misfit, then three dimensional growth takes place. Since Cu element is the most difficult to oxidize, only Sr and Bi react with each other predominantly, and forms a buffer layer on the substrate in an amorphous-like structure, which is changed to $SrBi_2O_4$ by in-situ anneal.

  • The microstructure and dielectric properties of a SrTiO3-based GBL (Grain Boundary Layer) capacitor were investigated. The 0.6 mol% Nb2O5 doped SrTiO3 was sintered for 3 hr at 1450$^{\circ}C$ in mixed gas(N2/H2) atmosphere. The Nb2O5 promoted the grain growth of the SrTiO3 ceramics was decreased with the amount of Nb2O5. The oxide mixture(PbO, Bi2O3, B2O3) were painted on the reduced specimen and fired at 1000$^{\circ}C$ to 1100$^{\circ}C$ in air. The penetrated oxide mixture into specimen were located in grain boundaries. A SrTiO3-based GBL capacitor had the apparent permittivity of about 3.0${\times}$104, the dielectric loss of 0.01-0.02, and insulating resistance of 108-109$\Omega$.cm. The capacitor had the stable temperature coefficient of capacitance and exhibited dielectric dispersion over 107 Hz. The capacitance-voltage measurements indicated that the grain boundary was composed of the continuous insulating layers.

  • SrS:Ce thin films for blue EL devices were prepared by Hot Wall Method and their crystallographic and optical characteristics were investigated by various methods. Deposition rates were increased with SrS cell temperature, but the rates were independent on substrate temperature and sulfur pressure. The optical and crystallographic characteristics were strongly affected by deposition rates. The band gap energies obtained by optical transmission spectra and Full Width at Half Maximum of (200) plane in X-ray diffraction patterns were found at 4.5-4.6eV and $0.22~0.26^{\circ}$, respectively. The photoluminescence from SrS:Ce thin tiles showed a greenish blue omission peaked at 470 and 540nm.

  • Sr, added in the hypereutectic Al-Si alloys, is absorbed on the surfaces of primary Si as well as eutectic Si, and can change the growth mode of primary Si from non-faceted to faceted mode, as the amount of Sr increases larger than 0.04 wt.%, even though it cannot affect the grain size of primary Si, significantly. The EBSD analysis shows that the traction of ${\Sigma}3$ boundary(twin boundary) increases as the amount of Sr in the hypereutectic Al-Si alloys increase until the over-modification occurs at 1.6 wt.%Sr and proves that the change in growth mode of primary Si results from the change of TPRE growth to IIT growth.

  • $(Pb_{1-x}Sr_x)TiO_3$ $(0.6{\leq}x{\leq}0.8)$ thin films were prepared by the MOD method for tunable microwave device application and their characteristics were investigated as a function of Sr content(x) and applied field. Thin films showed a homogeneous microstructure and the tetragonality(c/a) was slightly decreased with increasing Sr content. With increasing Sr content, Curie temperature of the thin films showed a decreasing tendency. For the PST thin films, the dielectric constant at room temperature, Tc, and $tan{\delta}$ were 750~1900, $-70^{\circ}{\sim}-30^{\circ}C$ and 0.025~0.04, respectively.

  • The crystallization mechanism of an amorphous $Bi_{2}$$Sr_{2}$$Ca_{2 x}$$Cd_{x}$$Cu_{3}$$O_{y}$ phase were studied from the relations between crystallization and volume changes by dilatometry. Further, the effect of addition of CdO on the crystallization mechanism and superconductivity was discussed. The shrinkage of the amorphous $Bi_{2}$$Sr_{2}$$Ca_{2 x}$$Cd_{x}$$Cu_{3}$$O_{y}$ occurred with the crystallization of $Bi_{2}$$Sr_{2}$Cu$O_{6}$ phase decrease with increasing CdO content with a minimum at x=0.4. Better superconductivity was obtained in the specimens formation less amount of the$Bi_{2}$$Sr_{2}$Cu$O_{6}$ phase during the crystallization process.

  • Sr-ferrite having magnetoplumbite structure is similar to Ba-ferrite in magnetic characteristics, but better magnetic characteristics for using motor application. To improve remanence magnetic flux density(Br) and coercive force(iHc), it is necessary that sintered ferrites must have high density and grain size less than 1 $\mu$m. By varying n values in SrO.nFe2O3 basic composition, calcination temperature, and BaO addition, Sr-ferrite powder and sintered specimen was prepared. The n values, calcination temperature, and BaO addition affected secondary phase formation, particle size, and particle shape. BaO addition enhanced Fe2O3 secondary phase and hexagonal shape particle. Fe2O3 phase reduced sintered density which greatly decreased Br.
