  • The sequential sampling inspection method is an extension of the multiple-sampling methods, and its theory is based on the sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) of Wald. In this paper, the characteristics of SPRT for testing the number of defects are approximated by using the estimated excess over the boundaries. The use of the estimated excess shows good performances in estimating the operating characteristic function and the average sample number of SPRT compared to the method by neglecting the excess. It also makes it possible to determine the boundary values which satisfy the desired error probabilities.

  • In this paper, a sequential test procedure is defined by using cumulative sum (CUSUM) of statistics. The properties as well as the efficiency of the CUSUM test are studied in comparison with the sequential probability ratio test (SPRT). It was shown that, the operating characteristic function and the average sample numbrer can be derived by Wald and Wiener process approximations. Also it was shown that the statistics used in the CUSUM test is determined to provide asymtotically equivalent efficiency compared to the SPRT. The efficiency of the CUSUM test and the SPRT are cpmpared by an example for some limited number of cases in the exponential distribution.

  • This paper proposes a method of designing one-sided cumulative scored control charts to control the process mean with a normally distributed quality characteristic. The average run length(ARL) is obtained from the average sample number of sequential probability ratio test(SPRT) on trinomial distribution. Using the analogy between cumulative scored control chart and SPRT for trinomial observations, a procedure is presented to determine three control chart parameters; lower and u, pp.r scoring boundaries and action limit. The parameters are determined by minimizing the ARL when the process is out of control with prespecified ARL when the process is in control.

  • In the international temperature scale of 1990 (ITS-90), standard platinum resistance thermometer (SPRT) is a defining standard thermometer used in the temperature range from 13.8033 K to $961^{\circ}C$. Uncertainty of SPRT is about several mK and uncertainty of defining fixed points of the ITS-90 which is used for calibrating SPRT is about several tenth of mK. Above $0^{\circ}C$. the defining fixed points are gallium melting point and indium, tin, zinc, aluminium and silver freezing points which are all realized using an electric furnace or a liquid bath. To realize freezing point of tin ($231.928^{\circ}C$) and zinc ($419.527^{\cir}C$), two 3-zone furnaces which have 3 electric heaters were manufactured. Temperature gradient of the constructed furnaces were tested. Uncertainty caused by temperature gradient of furnace and immersion effect of SPRT in the sealed-type freezing point cells were evaluated 0.038 mK for tin freezing point and 0.036 mK for zinc freezing point.

  • In this paper, the performance of the sequential detection scheme proposed in Part 1 is compared with that of the fixed sample size (FSS) test, sequential probability ratio test (SPRT), and truncated sequential probability ratio test (TSPRT). The proposed sequential detection scheme requires less complexity and, in most cases, smaller sample size than the SPRT. It is also observed that the proposed sequential detection scheme has always lower complexity and smaller sample size than the FSS test and TSPRT.

  • A new version of sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) which has been investigated in utterance-length control is proposed to obtain uniform response results in speaker verification (SV). Although SPRTs can obtain fast responses in SV tests, differences in the performance may occur depending on the compositions of consonants and vowels in the sentences used. In this paper, a fast sequential probability ratio test (FSPRT) method that shows consistent performances at all times regardless of the compositions of vocalized sentences for SV will be proposed. In generating frames, the FSPRT will first conduct SV test processes with only generated frames without any overlapping and if the results do not satisfy discrimination criteria, the FSPRT will sequentially use frames applied with overlapping. With the progress of processes as such, the test will not be affected by the compositions of sentences for SV and thus fast response outcomes and even consistent performances can be obtained. Experimental results show that the FSPRT has better performance to the SPRT method while requiring less complexity with equal error rates (EER).

  • The substitute tea was manufactured from the leaves of Salvia plebeia R. Br. (SPR) that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidative activities. Total polyphenols and flavonoids in SPR were $71.8{\pm}4.74GAE\;mg/g$ and $38.7{\pm}2.95QUE\;mg/g$, respectively. DPPH radical scavenging activity of SPR water extract had an $RC_{50}$ of $16.9{\mu}g/mL$. SPR inhibited lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO) production with an $IC_{50}$ of > $100{\mu}g/mL$. Medium and large leaves were used in the SPR substitute tea (SPRT). The water content was dissipated on roasting within approximately 10 minutes, and the tea obtained from fan-firing for a total 120 minutes was evaluated as most superior. Flavor was positively correlated with the taste and general preference. SPRT maintained its anti-oxidative activity without significant changes on roasting or fan-firing even after the heat treatment. The appropriate weight of a tea bag for one serving was 1.0 g. The study results indicated that SPR is a potential resource for the development of food or ingredients with anti-inflammatory properties.

  • The mathematical properties of the sequentially operated systems are often described by integral equations. Reservoir system of a product and sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) are typical examples of sequentially operated systems. When the underlying random quantities follow Erlang distribution, a systematic method was developed to solve the integral equations. We extend the method to the cases having accrual functions of more general types. The solutions of the integral equations are represented as a linear combination of distribution functions, and the coefficients of the linear combination are obtained by solving linear system derived from the continuity condition of the solutions.

  • Temperature measurement capability was inter-compared using the transfer standard platinum resistance thermometers(SPRT) among four laboratories of KRISS. The transfer SPRTs were primarily calibrated at the triple point of water and Ga melting point, then used at inter-comparison experiment. Temperature difference of calibration value between temperature laboratory and length laboratory at $20^{\circ}C$ was -0.7 mK and +2.4 mK at density laboratory. Temperature measured near $20^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$ at fluid flow laboratory was deviated by $34.2{\sim}80.4\;mK$ from the calibration values of the transfer SPRT. Ga melting points was inter-compared among three laboratories, and the difference of Ga melting points against the standard Ga melting point of temperature laboratory were $0.03{\sim}0.54\;mK$ at length laboratory and 0.02 mK at density laboratory.

  • The sensor signal validation and failure detection system must be able to detect, isolate, and identify sensor degradation as well as provide a reconstruction of the measurements. In this study, this is accomplished by combining the neural network, the Generalized Consistency Checking(GCC), and the Sequential Probability Ratio Test(SPRT) method in a decision estimator module. The GCC method is a computationally efficient system for redundant sensors, while the SPRT provides the ability to make decisions based on the degradation history of a sensor. The methodology is also extended to the detection of noise degradation. The acceptability of the proposed method is demonstration by using the simulation data in safety injection accident of nuclear power plants. The results show that the signal validation and sensor failure detection system is able to detect and isolate a bias failure and noise type failures under transient conditions. And also, the system is able to provide the validated signal by reconstructing the measurement signals in the failure conditions considered.
