The Role of Political Agreement and Disagreement of News and Political Discussion on Social Media for Political Participation

  • This study investigates the mobilizing function of political agreement and disagreement in communition mediated by social media. Analyses of a survey found that reception of news consistent with individual political predispositions through social networking sites (SNS) positively related to political participation, whereas reception of counterattitudinal news was unrelated. Similarly, SNS- based discussion with politically agreeing others predicted political participation, whereas discussion with disagreeing people did not contribute to participation. Moreover, attitude-consistent news reception and agreement in political discussion had interactive influences, as the effects of attitude-consistent news on participation become stronger with increases in discussion with agreement. The results suggest that the mobilizing effects of social media mainly work through political agreement rather than disagreement in communication.

Examination of Factors Influencing the Attitude toward SNS-based Advertising and the Roles of Involvement: Focusing on Facebook News Feed Advertising (SNS 광고 태도에 영향을 주는 요인들과 관여도의 역할에 대한 고찰: 페이스북 뉴스피드 광고를 중심으로)

  • This major purpose of this study is to examine factors influencing the attitude toward News Feed advertising in Facebook. For this purpose, this study posited seven determinants including informativeness, entertainment, irritation, trust, individualization, incentive and privacy concern, which can have influences on the attitude toward News Feed Advertising. and this research tests the relationships between these seven determinants and the attitude toward News Feed Advertising. An online survey was administrated to collect data and hierarchical regression analyses were employed for data analysis. The results showed that infortainment as a new combined factor of informativeness and entertainment, trust, individualization have significantly positive influences on the attitude toward News Feed advertising in Facebook. It was also shown that the moderating effect of involvement on the relationship between irritation and the attitude. The results in this study implied that it is needed to reinforce the attributes of advertising including infortainment, trust and individualization to boost the effects of News Feed advertising in Facebook on consumers.

SNS Marketing System by Using Video Play Button (동영상 재생버튼을 활용한 SNS 마케팅 시스템)

  • The marketing which uses SNS, which has the most biggest growth since appearance of Facebook, is proved to be effective, then many companies make variable attempts of marketing by using Facebook. This paper presents the method of marketing using videos, that has a major part in Facebook, and the method to raise their ratings. By using the video play button it registers information of the videos in Facebook then shares them to other people in real-time through inner News Feed. Therefore, we can maximize effect of marketing through viral marketing to use other users responses.

The Influence of SNS and Podcasts on the Political Participation of Korean Youth: A Case Study of the Candle Light Rallies and the 2017 Impeachment of the Korean President

  • This study investigates the influence of social network services (SNS) and political podcasts on youth participation in candlelight rallies leading up to the impeachment of the Korean president. It also examines the effect of SNS and podcasts on online participation through SNSs. It was found that engaging in political discussions with friends or parents and news media use, including TV and Internet newspapers, exerted a major positive influence on participation in the rallies. However, SNS had a negative influence, while podcasts did not have a significant effect. On the other hand, SNS and podcasts had a positive influence on online participation. The results of structural equation modeling showed that SNS and podcasts affected SNS participation in the mediation of political discussion and political efficacy.

Exploring News Sharers' Characteristics and Factors Affecting News Sharing Behavior (온라인 뉴스 공유자의 특성 및 뉴스 공유에 미치는 요인 탐색)

  • The present study aims to explore news sharers' characteristic. Specifically, it aims to look at news sharers' demographic characteristics, old media news usage and new media news usage. Besides, it also explores factors affecting news sharing behavior. The study used the second data of Korea Press Foundation. Findings from surveys suggest that first, news sharers are younger and have higher education than not news sharers. Second, news sharers use less news through old media while more news through new media. Third, political orientation, portal, SNS and online video platform new usage, messenger news reliability have positive effects on news sharing, while age and portal news reliability have negative effects on it. Based on these findings, implication, limitations, and topics for future research are discussed.

A Comparative Study between Stock Price Prediction Models Using Sentiment Analysis and Machine Learning Based on SNS and News Articles (SNS와 뉴스기사의 감성분석과 기계학습을 이용한 주가예측 모형 비교 연구)

  • Because people's interest of the stock market has been increased with the development of economy, a lot of studies have been going to predict fluctuation of stock prices. Latterly many studies have been made using scientific and technological method among the various forecasting method, and also data using for study are becoming diverse. So, in this paper we propose stock prices prediction models using sentiment analysis and machine learning based on news articles and SNS data to improve the accuracy of prediction of stock prices. Stock prices prediction models that we propose are generated through the four-step process that contain data collection, sentiment dictionary construction, sentiment analysis, and machine learning. The data have been collected to target newspapers related to economy in the case of news article and to target twitter in the case of SNS data. Sentiment dictionary was built using news articles among the collected data, and we utilize it to process sentiment analysis. In machine learning phase, we generate prediction models using various techniques of classification and the data that was made through sentiment analysis. After generating prediction models, we conducted 10-fold cross-validation to measure the performance of they. The experimental result showed that accuracy is over 80% in a number of ways and F1 score is closer to 0.8. The result can be seen as significantly enhanced result compared with conventional researches utilizing opinion mining or data mining techniques.

  • We can build regular customer relationships combining SNS (social networking service) with shopping mall like offline trade. A customer who once purchased is registered as reaular and the relationship continues afterward. Besides it, food storages, recipes can be given to consumers. The good point here is that selling and promoting can be performed within one account. This is better than link is provided for selling an promoting separately. Like this, besides personal connections using SNS, categorization function gives consumers on line shopping mall service. Once the consumer purchase, he is registered as regular. Besides, the consumers who do not know each other, can share information, suggest products, spread the news.

  • SNS is growing by leaps and bounds, and many users of SNS are using by a medium of communication. Using SNS users are using means of their own news and the change of emotional expression. In this study using emotional elements to the program was implemented to classify the message. Extraction of emotional elements were used for emotional vocabulary in OMLS (Ocean-Monmouth Legal Services). Emotional elements were extended by The Roget of the thesaurus and WordNet.

A Comparative Analysis between General Comments and Social Comments on an Online News Site (온라인 뉴스 사이트에서의 일반댓글과 소셜댓글의 비교분석)

  • As the individual participation in online news sites proliferates, the importance of online news comments has been increasing. Social comment services which help people leave comments on news articles using their own SNS (social networking site) accounts have gained popularity recently. Using data gathered from an online news site, this study, therefore, (1) identifies factors differentiating social comments from general comments, (2) examines how social comments are significantly different from general comments in terms of each factor, (3) and further validates how the social comments' characteristics vary among different type of SNS. Then, we investigated this study by applying t-test, ANOVA, and Duncan test of SPSS Statistics. Our results provide insights on the significant differences in all the factors between general and social comments. We also found that there is a significant difference between Facebook and Twitter groups among three types of SNS. The findings of this study would help assess the actual benefit of social comment services as they may provide us with several valuable leads to solve the malicious comments issue. Moreover, they would suggest the need to apply this service to other areas, such as online environments in private and public sectors.

An Exploratory Study on the Characteristics of Online Social Network and the Purpose of Customers' Use : A Comparison of Cyworld, Facebook, and Twitter (온라인 소셜 네트워크의 특성과 사용자의 이용 목적에 대한 탐색적 연구 : 싸이월드, 페이스북, 트위터간의 비교를 중심으로)

  • As the number of SNS users is increasing, it has been very important how companies use SNS strategically. As a result, studies have been performed for the utilization of SNS. Most of the studies, however, focused on the overall characteristics of SNS and did not consider the characteristics of individual SNS. This study classified the main purpose of SNS use as relation-oriented purpose and information-oriented purpose, and identified the types of SNS from two viewpoints : service type and openness. Based on the classification, this study identified the characteristics of Cyworld, Facebook, and Twitter respectively, and analyzed the difference of the purpose of SNS users according to the characteristics of each service. The results showed that more users had the information-oriented purpose in the order of Twitter, Facebook, and Cyworld. There was no difference in the relation-oriented purpose among the three services. The analyses of the motive to join a group or a party made similar results. The results of additional analyses showed that the ratio of users with many acquaintances was high in the order of Facebook, Twitter, and Cyworld. In addition, more users checked their timeline or news feed more frequently in the order of Facebook, Twitter, and Cyworld.
